Abstract

The research goals are (1) to analyze potential of rice, corn, and soybean commodity; (2) technology replication of rice, corn, and soybean commodity cultivation; (3) post-harvest implementation system of rice, corn, and soybean commodity cultivation; and (4) leverage factors that stimulate sub-sector for rice, corn, and soybean commodity. The research locations were Sumenep, Sampang, Bojonegoro, Lamongan, Tulungagung, Blitar, Situbondo, and Banyuwangi Regency. Data collection technique in this research used Snowball Sampling method and it was also conducted by soil sampling to know content of soil nutrient for organic C, Nitrogen, Phosphate, and Potassium in each commodity land (rice, corn, and soybean). Data used in this research was primary and secondary data. Data analysis method used are (1) descriptive analysis; (2) LQ; (3) Cobb-Douglas production function; (4) Income analysis; and (5) Contribution analysis. The research results show that (1) rice and corn needs in East Java still in surplus level, however it was deficit for soybean; (2) basis sector could be made as mainstay in order to improve an area’s economic level through economic growth, especially for three food commodities of rice, corn, and soybean. However, soil fertility was decreasing, particularly for organic C (under 2 percent). Besides, agricultural land in many areas are suffered by degradation due to land conversion. The implementation of cultivation and post-harvest technique have been suitable with local wisdom and varied depending on geographic and topographic condition, rainfall pattern, habit, farmer resource quality, information, and agribusiness capital. Leverage factors for soybean that could stimulate the improvement of food commodity production in East Java is land area and fertilizer use variable. Moreover, the variable that affects production decrease is technology application. Leverage factors for rice are variable of land area, organic fertilizer use, inorganic fertilizer use, seeds, workers, and technology. Then, the leverage factor of corn commodity are land area, organic fertilizer use, inorganic fertilizer use, and seeds.

The analysis method used farming feasibility and multidimensional scaling (MDS) approach of Rapfish. The results of the study found the criteria for chrysanthemum cultivation of R/C ratio and ROI of 2.58 and 1.58, with profit equivalent to 126.66 million rupiahs per month per hectare. The study also found that the sustainability index in the dimensions of the social, economic, institutional, and environment was 62.74, 57.76, 57.48 and 51.66; all of which are categorized as fairly sustainable. In those dimensions, it was found that the most important attributes influencing sustainability were land conversion, farmers' network in chrysanthemum cultivation, access to business capital and changes in market trends. Further research suggests strengthening farmer group institutions, implementing innovation and developing sustainable tourism areas.JEL Classification  F18; Q13; Q18

Abstract

The broiler chicken business is essential to providing national meat consumption in Indonesia. However, the business also faces a very significant management risk.  The purpose of this research is to study broiler farm management and the effect of its business management on the production and production risk. This research was conducted in Lamongan regency of East Java by interviewing broiler chicken farmers and using descriptive and multiple linear regression analysis. The results of the research show that the implementation of broiler farm management reached 73.48% of ideal situation, with planning reaching 67.64% ideal situation, 65.58% for ideal organizing, 84.18% for optimal direction, 74.43% for ideal coordination, and 77.58% for ideal control. Also, the management had a positive influence on the production of the broiler livestock business, with an elasticity of 0.700. The management had a negative effect on the risk of production of broiler livestock business with the elasticity of 0.237. Production risk was negatively affected by the number of chicks and the amount of feed. To provide support for breeders in their business, it is necessary to have a policy of low cost of broiler cultivation, especially the cost of chicks and feed, by setting DOC prices and cheap or cheaper feed. Besides, it is required to develop cooperation with companies using broiler primary products, as well as certain policies so that there will be businesses that use broiler primary products as their main ingredient.JEL Classification D13; Q02; Q12

Abstract

The COVID-19 virus pandemic has generated an unprecedented impact on all aspects of life, including rural tourism. This study aims to study the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the performance of homestay businesses in Gubukklakah Village, Malang Regency, and their adjustment measures to get out of the pandemic. A survey research with descriptive and quantitative approaches was conducted on 47 active homestay owners. 98% of the respondents stated that the pandemic affected their homestay business activities. About 44.6% of them said that the pandemic would not last long, while more than 50% of them said that the pandemic would last a long time. The pandemic has decreased the number of active homestays from 47 to 11, coupled with an 81% decline in income. Due to the pandemic, about 85.1% of the respondents returned to farming activities. The study suggests several actions that can be done to respond to the pandemic, namely the application of health protocols in various activities, the provision of cash or non-cash assistance to pandemic affected families, the strengthening of the agricultural sector and skilled human resources in tourism services, and the innovation of outdoor tourism products based on local uniqueness.
