Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to identify the framing pattern of international media on President Prabowo Subianto in the context of Indonesian democracy and to analyze the construction of democratic discourse in international news coverage. This study uses a qualitative approach by combining Entman's Framing Analysis and Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). Data were collected from five reputable international media outlets—The Guardian, The New York Times, BBC News, Al Jazeera, and The Washington Post—through online documentation using specific keywords. The analysis was conducted using NVivo software to organize the data into three main categories: framing, democratic discourse, and personal narratives. The findings show that negative framing is the dominant pattern, accompanied by political and responsibility frames that highlight Prabowo's role as a political actor with substantial influence on the direction of Indonesian democracy. In the democratic discourse dimension, the two main axes are authoritarianism and democratic values, supported by issues of election integrity and human rights. The personal narrative emphasizes Prabowo's controversial past, military background, and populist rhetoric, while temporal analysis shows shifts in issue emphasis across the pre-election, transition of power, and early governance phases. The word-cloud visualization confirms the interconnection between personal narratives, democratic frameworks, and human rights issues. The study concludes that international media construct Prabowo's image as a complex political figure, combining strong-leadership appeal with skepticism toward democratic commitment. Theoretically, this study demonstrates how the integration of Entman's framing functions and Fairclough's three-dimensional CDA advances the understanding of leaderisation in emerging democracies, where personal leadership images are constructed through media selection, ideological discourse, and global democratic norms.

Abstract

Namun, penggunaan plastik sekali pakai masih tergolong tinggi, mencapai 83%, sedangkan kebiasaan membawa perlengkapan ramah lingkungan hanya sebesar 57%.

Abstract

This study examines the role of digital micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in advancing Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on three interrelated issues: digital inclusivity, access inequality, and platform market dominance. Adopting a qualitative descriptive approach through library-based research, the study analyses secondary data from journal articles, international agency reports, official government publications, and statistical sources from 2019 to 2025. Data analysis employed thematic synthesis supported by NVivo 12 Plus for coding, theme identification, and word cloud visualisation. The findings reveal that digitalisation contributes to inclusive economic participation and women’s entrepreneurship, aligning with SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). However, persistent infrastructure disparities, uneven broadband distribution, and limited digital literacy—particularly in rural regions—continue to constrain equitable access, impeding progress toward SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). Moreover, the dominance of a few e-commerce platforms such as Tokopedia and Shopee reinforces market dependency and unequal power relations, counteracting the objectives of SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). Applying the Global Political Economy, Capability Approach, and Inclusive Innovation frameworks, the study concludes that realising the SDGs through MSME digitalisation requires oversight of platform power, equitable digital infrastructure, and empowerment of entrepreneurial capabilities. Policy implications include strengthening competition regulation, expanding digital skills programmes, and institutionalising inclusive innovation strategies. Future research should explore comparative and mixed-method studies across ASEAN contexts to validate and deepen these findings.

Abstract

Food availability is one of the important things that any state must  fulfill so that its people can live healthy and active lives. Currently, the world is encountered with food insecurity that threatens human welfare. The world, which has not yet recovered from the domino effects of climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, and most recently the Russia-Ukraine war, is becoming increasingly unprepared for a global food crisis. Malnutrition, mass starvation, and famine will become major problems if this crisis continues. Warnings on   a global food crisis that are often ignored have put the global food system on the verge of collapse. With the increasing level of hunger, the issue of food crisis has become a hot topic of discussion again. Foreign media are competing to report on the food crisis particularly the causes of the rapidly developing food crisis. The purpose of this study is to find out how the media has framed the causes of the food crisis. This study will take samples from three major regional media, namely Al Jazeera, Asia Times, and Washington Post, during the period of April 2020 to June 2022. This research applies a qualitative research method using the content of foreign news. The data was processed using the N Vivo 12 Plus and analyzed using media framing theory and food insecurity. The findings of this study show that the issue of war between Russia and Ukraine is the most widely used form of framing by the three media. This is because the war  disrupts not only world food production but also food distribution. This research is expected to be developed using more news samples to get more varied results.

Abstract

The protracted conflict between the Turkish state and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) remains one of the most enduring ethnopolitical confrontations in modern history. Despite initiatives such as the Oslo Process and the İmralı Talks, negotiations have consistently collapsed. This study examines the roots of these failures by integrating strategic negotiation theories—particularly BATNA and the Hurting Stalemate model—with perspectives from identity politics and collective trauma. Employing qualitative, thematic analysis of secondary sources, it argues that breakdowns cannot be explained solely through material or strategic lenses. Instead, they stem from entrenched ideological discord, symbolic marginalization, and structural asymmetries of power and recognition. The Turkish state’s reliance on coercion and systemic delegitimization of the PKK has impeded equitable dialogue. Conceptually, the article advances an interdisciplinary interpretation of negotiation failures and highlights the necessity of symbolic and psychosocial dimensions. Findings affirm that recognition, narrative pluralism, and legitimacy are essential to sustainable peace.
