Abstract

Introduction: Anemia on pregnant women is a global health problem that has serious impacts on the mother and fetus. The objective of the study was to explore the determinants of anemia on pregnant women at Buakayu Community Health Center, Tana Toraja Regency. Methods: The study used an observational study with a cross-sectional design. The sample was pregnant women who visited the Buakayu Community Health Center for antenatal examination using an accidental sampling technique for 11 days. The data was collected through structured interviews and laboratory examinations. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistical methods (univariate), bivariate, and regression analysis to determine the variables most related to independent variables and anemia in pregnant women. Results: The results of the study showed that diet (p=0.001), dietary restrictions (p=0.005), consumption of Fe tablets (p=0.000), and provision of additional food (p=0.000) were related to anemia incidence on pregnant women. Conclusion: It can be concluded that diet, dietary restrictions, consumption of Fe tablets, and provision of additional food are factors that contribute to anemia incidence on pregnant women at the Buakayu Community Health Center area. It is hoped that the implications of the study can be used as a basis for designing appropriate interventions in dealing with anemia on pregnant women at the Health Center level.

Abstract

Introduction: Early childhood nutrition is a fundamental determinant of optimal growth and development. The study aimed to evaluate how mothers provide complementary feeding (CF) to infants and young children aged 6–23 months. It explored factors influencing the adoption of safe and hygienic CF practices recommended by the WHO and Infant and Child Feeding Guidelines. Methods: A non-experimental quantitative approach surveyed 1125 mothers across 28 districts/cities. Reliability was assessed using composite reliability (?_c), ensuring reliability threshold (?0.7) was met. Although most constructs comprised single items, they were deemed reliable. Results: Findings indicated that being the first child didn't significantly impact maternal understanding of CF (?=0.034, p=0.215) or adherence to safe CF practices (?=-0.001, p=0.307). Maternal employment status also showed no significant influence on CF knowledge (?=0.022, p=0.492) or safe CF practices (?=-0.01, p=0.568). However, maternal education significantly affected CF knowledge (?=0.060, p<.001) and safe CF practices (?=-0.030, p=0.004). Conclusion: In essence, higher maternal education levels correlated with better understanding of CF, thereby indirectly promoting safe and hygienic CF preparation.

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Chronic Energy Deficiency in pregnant women is one of the public health problems that can hurt the health of the mother and fetus. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of nutritional interventions in overcoming Chronic Energy Deficiency in pregnant women through a case study in one of the health centers in the Padangsidimpuan City area. Methods: A qualitative study with a case study design involving pregnant women with nutritional status with Chronic Energy Deficiency who received nutritional interventions over three months. This data was collected at the Padangmatinggi Health Center through in-depth interviews involving four primary informants and seven triangulation informants, which included document analysis and data analysis. Results: This study proves that the input aspects, namely sources of funds, infrastructure, forms of services, and supplementary feeding materials, are by the instructions, while the goals and human resources are not by the Supplementary Feeding Guidelines. It is appropriate for the planning, implementation, and recording process, but there are obstacles due to the uncertain dropping from the center. The increase in the size of the upper arm circumference is an output of the supplementary feeding program for pregnant women, but in reality, the cases of Chronic Energy Deficiency are still high. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the administration of supplementary feeding can only be monitored until distribution to pregnant women with Chronic Energy Deficiency, but consumption monitoring has not been carried out. This study suggests the importance of nutrition intervention programs integrated with health services at the health center level to reduce the prevalence of chronic energy deficiency in pregnant women and encourage healthier diets.
