Abstract

Non-Timber Forest Products, such as Nyamu/Breadfruit Bark (Artocarpus altilis), are utilized by the Dayak community as the primary material for making traditional attire. Complementary items like Sumping and Lawung are also crafted. In the past, these Lawung and Sumping were simple, with minimal ornamentation or accessories. However, as demand has grown, decorations such as sequins, beads, and embroidery have been added. Despite these enhancements, the designs still reflect the distinctive characteristics of the Dayak tribe in Central Kalimantan. The challenges faced by the partners involved in this initiative include Partners have no prior experience in making Lawung and Sumping, although these products are in high demand; As educators in the Non-Formal Education program, the partners feel it is crucial to provide entrepreneurial skills to their students; and Partners need to understand the techniques for applying accessories such as sequins, beads, embroidery, and bird feathers to enhance the aesthetic appeal of bark-based materials. The primary challenge that needs immediate attention is transferring knowledge to enhance participants' skills so they can create job opportunities, design innovative and attractive crafts, and produce high-quality products that align with market demands. The use of simple and reliable technology is introduced to participants, emphasizing that bark can be transformed into desirable products instead of being wasted. This results in unique, distinctive, and beautiful items. Implementing sewing machines and techniques for embellishing bark materials with sequins is a straightforward technological application accessible to all participants. The training benefits education by incorporating aspects of local wisdom into the curriculum for both formal and non-formal education. By introducing regional crafts, participants can explore creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial opportunities. The products created include Lawung and Sumping with motifs inspired by Bajakah (a traditional plant) and birds, adorned with embroidery, sequins, and bird feathers for the Sumping.

Abstract

Trigona spp. is a species of bee that has a unique characteristic: it does not have a stinger, making it easy to cultivate. This type of bee is widely cultivated in Indonesia. The cultivation of Kelulut honey bees can provide direct benefits through the utilization of products produced by honey bees, such as honey, royal jelly, bee pollen, wax, propolis, and bee venom. Additionally, honeybee farming can provide indirect benefits related to forest resource conservation and increased crop productivity through the mutually beneficial symbiosis between plants and honeybees, as honeybees aid in the pollination of plant flowers while foraging for food. My Bee Kelulut is a partner in this community service activity, which involves the cultivation of Trigona bees, a type of stingless bee, that has been carried out since 2017 by several students from the Forestry Department of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Palangka Raya at the Campus Forest Seedling Nursery. The implementation of the Community Entrepreneurship Mentor Program (PDPWM) has resulted in a new product, My Bee Kelulut Bee Pollen, packaged in bottles and ready for market

Abstract

This study analyzes the chemical properties of Meranti Tembaga wood (Shorea leprosula Mig.) from natural forests and intensively managed plantation forests (Silin) at PT. Dwima Jaya Utama. Samples were taken from trees with diameters of 28 cm, 36 cm, 43 cm, and 51 cm to compare extractive content (cold water, hot water, ethanol-toluene), holocellulose, α-cellulose, lignin, and ash levels. Results showed that Silin-grown wood had higher extractive content in cold and hot water but lower lignin and ash levels compared to natural forest wood. α-Cellulose content was consistently high across all diameters, meeting industrial standards. The findings suggest that Silin techniques can produce quality wood with shorter harvest cycles, though chemical properties vary by diameter and origin. This research provides valuable insights for sustainable forest management and industrial applications of Shorea leprosula.

Abstract

Monitoring changes in peat swamp forest biodiversity is a necessity for identifying and accounting for the impacts of various factors that cause degradation and deforestation. Information on the condition of this biodiversity can be obtained using Landsat 8 Imagery. This imagery allows for a more efficient, effective, and systematic analysis of changes in vegetation density. This study aimed to assess the dynamic changes in peat swamp forest biodiversity over approximately the last 10 years. The research findings indicate that the rates of degradation and deforestation (16.86%) are higher than the rate of regrowth (6.27%)5. This suggests that the ecosystem's condition is experiencing a significant decline. This decline is characterized by a tendency for the diversity, richness, and evenness of flora species to decrease. The study concludes that the floristic dynamics at the Rungan sub-watershed have declined, which can also affect the existence and habitat of its fauna.

Abstract

Research has demonstrated the treatments using sawdust–cement ratios of A1 (1:1.5), A2 (1:2), A3 (1:2.5), and A4 (1:3) in the manufacture of red meranti wood particle cement boards based on the SNI 03-2105-2006 standard. The results showed that the physical and mechanical properties of red meranti sawdust cement boards met the standards for moisture content, density, and thickness swelling. However, the modulus of elasticity (MoE) and modulus of rupture (MoR) did not meet the SNI 03-2105-2006 requirements. The analysis of variance indicated that the sawdust–cement ratio treatments had no significant effect on moisture content, density, and thickness swelling, but had a significant effect on the modulus of elasticity (MoE) and modulus of rupture (MoR), with the best treatment being A1 (1:1.5). The quality of the red meranti sawdust cement board falls under the ordinary type 1 particle cement board with a thickness of 13 mm and medium density, and is therefore recommended for non-structural uses such as interior partition walls, ceilings, decorative purposes, and tabletops.

Abstract

Palangka Raya City covers an area of 2,687 km2, with a 2015 workforce dominated by high school graduates (27.7%) and university graduates (27.2%). High school graduates were the most unemployed at 2%, followed by vocational high school graduates at 1.4%, and then university graduates at 1% of the total workforce in 2015. This aligns with the Vision and Mission outlined in the RPJMD (Regional Medium-Term Development Plan), namely: "To realize a city of Palangka Raya that is Advanced, Harmonious, and Prosperous for All and to realize the welfare of the Palangka Raya community through a smart economy, encompassing the development of industry, small and medium enterprises, tourism, and banking." Palangka Raya's flagship products are rattan, wood, batik, and nyatoh resin crafts, which have significant potential for development, particularly to support the synergistic regional tourism industry. The Dayak people, as the indigenous people of Central Kalimantan, live largely along river basins and depend on the natural resources of their surroundings for their livelihood. Their interaction with nature has given rise to a diverse culture reflecting local wisdom. The objective of this activity is to produce nyatoh sap, a non-timber forest product, into typical Dayak souvenirs, including miniature boats, garing sticks, pen holders, key chains depicting Dayak statues, mandau (mandau), talawang (talawang), and hornbills. This activity, held in the Forestry Department, aims to provide students with an understanding of the types of non-timber forest products made from sap, namely nyatoh sap, as well as an introduction to cleaned and colored nyatoh sap, and the process of forming it into souvenirs.
