Abstract

The article aims to analyze which allomorphs occur more accurately in English and what factors determine them. The problems that the researchers examine enable English learners and readers to pronounce English words, in this case, English morphemes. The theory employed by the researchers is morphophonemics, dealing with how morphemes alter their appearance or pronunciation in response to the sounds that surround them in a given piece of content. The approach or method that the researchers use in this article is descriptive qualitative method based on the data.  The findings that the researchers come  across are as follows: (a) the definitive article, (b) the definitive article, (c) Derivation, (d) Irregular verbs, (e) Past tense marker (-ed), (f) Present tense morpheme, (g) Plural noun markers, (h) Possessive markers. It can be seen that the shape or pronunciation of an English word depends on the linguistic environment in which it occurs, and it is obvious that morphophonemic change involves not only replacing but also changing the phonological shape of a morpheme. Based on the data, the researchers find that there are two basic types of allomorph, such as morphophonemic changes and suppletion. The researchers also attend to the theory of Pike, stating that sounds tend to be influenced by their environments.

Abstract

Abstract

The study addresses a critical gap in morphological research by investigating the understudied patterns of ablaut reduplication in Toba Batak (TB), an endangered Austronesian language, through a construction-based approach. While ablaut reduplication has been widely examined in Indo-European languages like English and German, its manifestations in TB remain largely unexplored, despite the language’s cultural significance and vulnerability. This study fills this gap by employing a modified version of Halle’s (1973) generative morphology model, tailored to TB’s unique linguistic features, to analyze data collected from 12 native speakers in Samosir Regency. The findings reveal three distinct categories of ablaut reduplication in TB: verbal (VAR), nominal (NAR), and adjectival (AAR), each exhibiting specific vowel patterns. For instance, monosyllabic words typically alternate between [u]/[e] and [a]/[u], while disyllabic words follow a [u-a] to [a-I]/[a-u] sequence. Notably, the study demonstrates that TB’s ablaut reduplication is unproductive, lacking grammatical meaning and affixation, with lexical meaning derived solely from vowel alternations. The modified Hallean model, incorporating orthographic and phonological rules, proves effective in capturing these nuances, offering a novel framework for analyzing non-Indo-European languages. By documenting these patterns, the study not only enriches the understanding of TB’s morphological system but also contributes to broader linguistic typology and the preservation of endangered languages. The implications extend to applied fields such as language education and cultural revitalization, underscoring the urgency of safeguarding regional languages like TB amidst globalization. This research thus bridges theoretical linguistics and practical conservation efforts, advocating for further studies on underrepresented languages.

Abstract

This paper aims to explore the promise that will be fulfilled in Jesus based on Genesis 3 verse 15. descriptive qualitative research to solve the problems of the study. The method used is to provide a textual explanation of God’s temporary, emergency and imperfect actions in a theological-style material. The OT text regarding God's actions contained in Gen. 3:21 is of an emergency nature. Meanwhile, if the NT text in John 10:10 is divided into 10 a and 10 b, it indicates Jesus' mission for humans who have sinned and must face the rulers of this world. Two facts, where the emergency action of God YHWH and the complete fulfillment of Jesus' task as a form of fulfillment of God's promise to the first humans require a precise explanation and how this emergency action is related to its fulfillment. In this problem, the approach uses a comparative approach to these two facts to then confirm the key words (underlying text) in Gen. 3:21 and John 10:10 a and 10 b. The results show that the fulfillment of Jesus' task was the fulfillment and at the same time permanently overcoming this emergency action.

Abstract

A literary work is a forum for the expression of the writer's ideas, beliefs, physical experiences, and the writer's imagination. Language in the form of symbols is interesting to study semantically. Semiotics is the study of symbols in three aspects: icons, indices, and symbols. The Wednesday series, created by Alfred Gough and Miles Miller, tells the story of a young girl who is strictly forced to study at a school named Nevermore Academy. This school is for freaks and outcast students, and she does not want to be in it. She does not like this school, but as time goes on, she grows to like it even more, with all of its mysteries, sadism, people, and monsters. The questions of this study are (1) how is the semiotic aspect of symbolism included in “Wednesday,” (2) how is the indexical aspect of semiotics included in “Wednesday,” and (3) how is the semiotic aspect of symbolism included in “Wednesday”? This study uses qualitative methods. The results of this study are 33 data for icons in the entire series of Wednesdays created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. 21 data for an index of the entire series of Wednesdays created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. 21 data for an index of the entire series of Wednesdays created by Alfred Gough and The symbols for all series of Wednesday created by Miles Millar are 6 data
