Abstract

Background & Objective: Nausea is a common side effect of chemotherapy in breast cancer patients, which can interfere with patient comfort and nutritional status. Aromatherapy is known to have the potential to reduce these complaints non-pharmacologically. Method: This study is a case study with a qualitative descriptive approach, conducted in the HOT ward of Gunung Jati General Hospital in Cirebon City. Data were collected through nursing care assessments and documentation of breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy who experienced nausea. The intervention involved the administration of eucalyptus oil aromatherapy, as well as education and emotional support. Result: After continuous aromatherapy administration, patients showed a decrease in nausea intensity from a scale of 4 to a milder level. Patients also felt more emotionally calm, hydration patterns improved, and overall comfort increased. Conclusion: Eucalyptus oil aromatherapy is effective as an additional intervention to reduce chemotherapy-induced nausea in breast cancer patients. This approach also supports a holistic nursing approach in improving patients' quality of life.

Abstract

Background & Objective: Hypertension is one of the chronic diseases whose prevalence continues to increase globally. In addition to pharmacological therapy, non-pharmacological interventions such as deep breathing relaxation have been shown to contribute to lowering blood pressure through their effects on the autonomic nervous system and stress response. Method: This study employed a descriptive method with a case study approach on one patient meeting the criteria for hypertension, who underwent deep breathing relaxation 15 times, divided into 3 cycles. In each cycle, the patient was instructed to take 5 deep breaths with one rest period. Result: The results of this study showed that after three days of deep breathing relaxation intervention, the patient reported feeling more relaxed, and blood pressure improved from 158/118 mmHg to 126/108 mmHg. Conclusion: Deep breathing relaxation can be an effective management strategy for controlling blood pressure in conjunction with medication.

Abstract

Background & Objective: Lymphadenopathy is the enlargement of lymph nodes or a condition in which lymph nodes become enlarged to a size greater than 1 cm and the epicondylar lymph nodes are palpable with a size greater than 5 mm, which is an abnormal condition. Method: This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design with a nursing perspective. Conclusion: After receiving nursing care for 4 days, the evaluation results for the initial diagnosis were supported by the client's subjective data stating that the pain was no longer felt, reinforced by objective data showing a body temperature of 36.5°C, a pulse rate of 95 beats per minute, a respiration rate of 20 breaths per minute, and no further pain reported on the pain scale. The assessment results indicated that the issue was resolved, and the intervention plan was discontinued as the intervention had been implemented for 4 days. In the second diagnostic evaluation, the subjective findings indicated that the client's family reported that the child had finished their meal portion. This was supported by objective data showing that the patient did not appear pale and had finished their meal portion. The assessment concluded that the issue had been resolved, and the intervention plan was discontinued as the necessary actions had been implemented over the 4-day period.

Abstract

Background & Objective: The increase in non-communicable diseases (NCDs) poses a challenge to the healthcare sector in maintaining quality of life. One of the most prevalent NCDs today is hypertension. Hypertension is classified as a silent killer and is spreading worldwide. Hypertension can be managed through pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies. Non-pharmacological therapy can be administered through complementary therapy, such as herbal medications, and one herbal treatment believed to lower hypertension is the use of boiled bay leaf water. Method: The research method used a literature review of studies published between 2020 and 2024. The literature search employed a data strategy using the keywords “hypertension” and “bay leaves,” utilizing the Google Scholar and PubMed databases. The criteria included articles discussing the relationship between hypertension and bay leaves, with full-text availability. Result: The results from 10 articles indicate that consuming a decoction of bay leaves is effective in lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Conclusion: It is recommended that hypertensive patients consume a decoction of bay leaves regularly to achieve effective results, but they should also maintain a balanced diet and engage in sufficient physical activity.

Abstract

Background & Objective: Globally, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that non-communicable diseases cause approximately 60% of deaths and 40% of morbidity worldwide. Based on data from the Cirebon profile (2018), hypertension is the highest health problem in Cirebon, ranging from 22.0% to 26.2%. Based on the data obtained, the highest number of cases of degenerative diseases according to morbidity rates is hypertension, with 37 cases out of 120 elderly individuals. The objective of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of deep breathing relaxation techniques in lowering blood pressure and reducing associated symptoms (such as headaches and sleep disturbances) in hypertensive patients. Method: The research method used a quasi-experiment with a case study approach on a hypertensive patient (Mr. J). The deep breathing relaxation intervention was given once a day for 3 days. Result: The results showed that this technique successfully lowered blood pressure, reduced pain complaints, and improved patients' sleep quality. However, more intensive intervention and a longer duration are needed to achieve optimal results. Conclusion: It is recommended that healthcare professionals, especially nurses, integrate deep breathing relaxation techniques as part of holistic nursing care for patients with hypertension, especially the elderly.

Abstract

Hand hygiene is a term for cleaning hands. The World Health Organization formulated an innovative strategy for implementing hand hygiene, namely for health workersin five moments of hand hygiene, namely before contact with patients, before carrying out nursing actions, after exposure to patient body fluids, after contact with patients, and after contact with the environment. The aim for this research is that researchers want to observe and describe the implementation of five moment hand hygiene among nurses. The number of samples in this study was 18 nurses in the Jimbaran ward at Sumber Kasih Hospital, Cirebon. Data collection carried out by researchers in managing this case study included observation, interviews and documentation studies. The research results showed that 11 respondents (61,11%) had poor implementation of five moment hand hygiene and 7 respondents (38.89%) had good implementation of five moment hand hygiene. The conclusion is that the implementation of five moment hand hygiene is not good due to the lack of knowledge and awareness of nurses about the benefits of five moment hand hygiene and the impacts caused when it is not implemented.
