Abstract

Citronella essential oil (Cymbopogon nardus (L.) and basil leaf essential oil (Ocimum basilicum (L.) offer various benefits, including antibacterial properties. This study aims to identify the chemical compounds present in these oils obtained through local distillation at PT Syailendra Bumi Investama in Wonorejo Village, Gondangrejo, Karanganyar, Central Java. Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis was conducted at the BRIN (National Innovation Research Agency) in Serpong, South Tangerang, Banten, to characterize citronella essensial oil and basil essential oil. The findings indicate that citronella essential oil meets the criteria of SNI 06-3953-1995, with three compounds showing significant concentrations: Geraniol (26.49%), citronellol (14.53%), and citronellal (10.95%). Similarly, research on basil leaf essential oil conforms to ISO 11043 - 1998 standards, revealing high concentrations of two compounds: Estragole (55.80%) and linalool (22.35%).

Abstract

Essential oils are also commonly known as flying oils which can generally be obtain from roots, plant parts, bark, leaves, stems, seed fruits, and flower by steam distillation. The aim of the research is to determine the chemicals components of essential oils of basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) and citronella (Cymbopogon nardus (L.) Rendle) leaves obtained from farmers and processors in Karanganyar, Central Java. Essential oil composition was analysis use gas chromatographys-mass spectrophotometry (GC-MS) method. The finding explain namely chemical component of basil leaf essential oil show that the main component were Estragole (55.80%) and Linalool (22.35%), while in citronella essential oil show that the main component were Geraniol (26.49%), Citronellol (14.53%) and Citronellal (10.95%).

Abstract

Soursop leaves have long been used as a traditional medicine that can inhibit the potential of cancer cells. The purpose of introducing herbal preparations of soursop leaves is to educate in the treatment of cancer or tumors using soursop leaves and to find out the content contained in soursop leaves. To make this soursop leaf preparation by boiling the boiled water will be used as herbal preparations. The method of implementing the introduction of soursop leaf preparations was carried out using a zoom meeting. The activity was accompanied by giving pre-test and post-test questionnaires with an average understanding of the pre-test percentage of 88% to 89.2% during the post test. From these results, it can be said that the webinar that has been carried out can provide benefits in the form of insight and knowledge to the community.

Abstract

Antioksidan adalah senyawa yang berguna untuk menghalau trejadinya proses oksidasi karena adanya senyawa radikal yang bersifat reaktif (radikal bebas) yang berbentuk baik secara endogen (dari dalam tubuh organisme). Senyawa ini berbahaya bagi tubuh karena paparan jangka panjang berpotensi memicu terjadinya kanker. Metode yang digunakan dalam review ini berdasarkan studi literature dari beberapa publikasi ilmiah di jurnal tentang aktivitas antioksidan minyak atsiri.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most common and serious health problems in society, which can cause complictions such as heart disease, stroke and kidney failure. This study examines the use of starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi) as an adjuvant therapy in the treatment of hypertension. The aim of this community service program is to increase public knowledge and understanding of the benefits of starfruit leaves in the treatment of hypertension, as well as provide education on how to process starfruit leaves into a safe and effective herbal concoction. The results of the pre-test and post-test obtained showed that the pre-test percentage was correct at 88.7% and the percentage value incorrect was 12.3%, while the post-test percentage correct was 98.7% and the percentage value incorrect was 2.3%. The conclusion of this program is that education regarding the use of starfruit leaves can increase public understanding about alternative treatments for hypertension based on local plants.

Abstract

This community service aims to provide information about the role of Gotu kola extract (Centella asiatica) as a neural antioxidant and mitoprotective in the context of helping reduce symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's, a form of dementia common in old age, still has no effective treatment after more than a hundred years of research. Gotu kola extract has been traditionally known in Asia as a cognitive-enhancing drug and has antioxidant and mitoprotective properties that can revitalize nerve and brain cells. Through the community service program, we organized a webinar on the benefits of Gotu Kola herbs in helping prevent Alzheimer's disease for students of the University of 17 August 1945 Jakarta and the general public in North Jakarta. The results of this activity showed a positive response from participants, with 42 participants from various backgrounds attending the webinar.

Abstract

Liquid hand soap is a cleaning product specifically designed to clean hands from dirt, oil, and microorganisms. The study aims to provide evidence of antibacterial efficacy with a combination of basil leaf essential oil and citronella essential oil on Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria in hand washing liquid soap formulations. The type of research used is experimental. Essential oils were analyzed by GC-MS and then through formulation as hand washing liquid soap with each concentration of 1%, 1.5%, and 2%. The test results were evaluated, and analyzed using Two Way ANOVA and Post Hoc Tukey.The results of this study showed that the GC-MS test on basil leaf essential oil showed 2 main compounds were detected, namely Estragole (55.80%) and Linalool (22.35%), while in citronella essential oil 3 main compounds were detected, namely Geraniol (26.49%), Citronellol (14.53%), and Citronellal (10.95%). And the results of antibacterial activity tests against Escherichia coli bacteria show each inhibition zone FI 9.32 mm, FII 10.72 mm, and FIII 14.45 mm. While against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria showed each inhibition zone FI 8.75 mm, FII 10.42 mm, and FIII 13.57 mm. For stability tests with temperature (2-8oC) and room temperature (20-25oC), the hand washing liquid soap formulation does not show homogeneous changes, organoleptic preparations, has a pH range of 8.87 - 9.04, has a viscosity consistency that has met the standards between 400-4000 cPs, foam height that meets the standards between 13-220 mm and does not cause irritation to the hands. In brief, the formulation is stable in both temperature (2-8oC) and room temperature (20-25oC) with strong inhibition at 2% concentration.

Abstract

Webinar "Penerapan Spektrofotometer FTIR (Fourier Transform Infra Red) dalam Analisis Kandungan Boraks dalam Bahan Pangan Daging Olahan" bertujuan memberikan edukasi tentang bahaya boraks dan penerapan teknologi analisis modern. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh 50 peserta dari berbagai kalangan, dilaksanakan secara daring pada 18 Oktober 2024. Sebelum webinar, peserta mengisi pre-test untuk mengetahui pemahaman awal, dan post-test setelahnya untuk mengevaluasi peningkatan pengetahuan. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan, dari 88% peserta yang memiliki pemahaman baik sebelum kegiatan menjadi 100% setelah webinar. Keberhasilan ini menunjukkan efektivitas metode edukasi melalui webinar dalam meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya memilih pangan yang aman dan bebas boraks, serta pemahaman tentang teknologi analisis FTIR.

Abstract

Stres dan kelelahan merupakan permasalahan umum di kalangan anak muda, khususnya mahasiswa. Moringa oleifera (daun kelor) dikenal memiliki kandungan bioaktif seperti flavonoid, asam amino, dan polifenol yang dapat menurunkan kadar hormon stres dan meningkatkan energi. Kegiatan webinar ini bertujuan untuk memberikan edukasi terkait pemanfaatan daun kelor sebagai alternatif herbal untuk mengatasi stres dan kelelahan. Berdasarkan pre-test dan post-test, terjadi peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman peserta. Artikel ini memaparkan tinjauan ilmiah, hasil edukasi, dan rekomendasi pengembangan tanaman herbal lokal sebagai solusi kesehatan preventif dan promotif di kalangan anak muda.

Abstract

Ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) is a medicinal plant widely used in traditional medicine in Indonesia due to its diverse active compounds. However, many people still do not understand the proper extraction methods to maximize the recovery of beneficial compounds from ginger rhizomes. This community service activity aims to improve community knowledge and skills in processing ginger through decoction and infusion methods. The methods used included interactive counseling and live demonstrations on the preparation of herbal remedies, extraction techniques, and the advantages and disadvantages of each method. As part of the evaluation, pre- and post-tests were conducted to measure participants' understanding. The results showed an average pre-test score of 92.89, which increased to 96.67 in the post-test. This increase indicates that the counseling activity successfully strengthened participants' understanding, both theoretically and practically. This activity demonstrates that an experiential educational approach can have a positive impact on increasing public literacy regarding the use of medicinal plants.
