Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penyebab penurunan kinerja booster pump pada sistem bahan bakar kapal dan merumuskan strategi peningkatan keandalannya. Metode yang digunakan adalah observasi langsung serta wawancara dengan masinis dan kepala kamar mesin (KKM) untuk mengidentifikasi gangguan teknis, prosedural, dan pemeliharaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penurunan kinerja pompa disebabkan oleh kebocoran seal, shaft bengkok, overheating elektromotor, serta kondisi pelayaran trim by bow yang memperburuk kestabilan aliran bahan bakar. Selain itu, lemahnya implementasi Plant Maintenance System (PMS), kurangnya pengawasan jam kerja komponen, dan minimnya pelatihan teknis juga berkontribusi terhadap tingginya frekuensi kerusakan.  Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penurunan kinerja booster pump tidak hanya dipengaruhi faktor teknis, tetapi juga kelemahan sistemik pada aspek manajerial dan sumber daya manusia.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penyebab penurunan kinerja sistem pompa hydrant di atas kapal MV SJW TRANS serta merumuskan strategi perbaikan berbasis data. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif melalui observasi, wawancara dengan Kepala Kamar Mesin (KKM) dan teknisi kapal, serta analisis dokumentasi perawatan. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa penurunan performa pompa hydrant disebabkan oleh kerusakan impeller, kesalahan pemasangan, penyumbatan pipa, serta lemahnya implementasi perawatan dan pengujian rutin. Kurangnya pelatihan teknis dan rendahnya kesadaran kru terhadap sistem pemadam turut memperparah kondisi sistem. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penguatan prosedur pemeliharaan, dokumentasi inspeksi, dan peningkatan kompetensi sumber daya manusia sangat diperlukan untuk menjamin keandalan sistem pemadam kebakaran di kapal. Temuan ini diharapkan menjadi dasar bagi manajemen kapal dalam merancang strategi keselamatan yang lebih efisien dan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Background. The main drive engine is an energy conversion engine that converts thermal energy resulting from chemical reactions between fuel and air into mechanical energy. The process of burning the fuel occurs due to high air pressure in the combustion chamber. Aims. This research was conducted on the MT ship. Ratu Zainab aims to determine the best practices for preventive maintenance of the cooling system on the main engine and identify the factors that impact her work on the MT ship. Queen Zainab. Methods. The method used is qualitative descriptive. The study's results highlight the importance of regular maintenance for the freshwater cooling system to ensure optimal engine performance. The main steps include preparing maintenance schedules, creating checklists, and conducting periodic inspections. Result. Common problems that often occur include a lack of suction in the cooling pump, decreased impeller performance, dirt accumulation in the seals, and leaks in the intercooler cover, thus affecting the cooling system of the main engine on the MT. Ratu Zainab's ship. Daily and monthly maintenance is recommended to detect damage early. Factors that affect the performance of the cooling system include corrosion, clogging of the cooler by dirt, and wear and tear on the standard components. Proper preventive maintenance can reduce damage, improve operational efficiency, and extend the life of machine components. Cooling system failure can lead to overheating, reduced engine efficiency, and severe component damage. Therefore, implementing preventive maintenance is a strategic step to prevent unexpected damage. Conclusion. This research highlights the importance of proactive maintenance and a thorough understanding of seawater cooling systems to ensure the optimal and safe operation of ships. Implementation. Thus, implementing proper preventive maintenance on the main engine cooling system is a crucial effort in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and reliability of the overall ship operation.

Abstract

Mathematics constitutes a vital foundation in maritime education, serving as an essential tool for ensuring safety, operational efficiency, and sustainability in the shipping industry. Its applications extend to critical areas such as route optimization, cost reduction, and environmental protection. Nevertheless, applied mathematics is often perceived as one of the most challenging subjects for nautical students, largely because of the difficulty in linking abstract concepts to practical, real-world maritime problems. This learning gap highlights the need for pedagogical strategies that can transform theoretical knowledge into tangible applications relevant to the maritime field. Project-Based Learning (PBL) has emerged as an effective instructional approach to address these challenges by promoting active learning, enhancing problem-solving abilities, and fostering both creativity and critical thinking. In maritime education, PBL can be particularly impactful in teaching complex topics such as ship stability, where mathematical principles play a central role. Ship stability, especially in relation to intact conditions, is crucial in vessel design and operation, as it determines a ship’s capacity to resist external forces and recover equilibrium. A key mathematical component of this process is the calculation of a vessel’s center of mass, which integrates mass distribution across structural components and loading conditions. By constructing ship models and applying coordinate-based methods, students can connect theoretical mathematics with practical stability analysis. This experiential approach not only deepens conceptual understanding but also equips future maritime professionals with the analytical competencies essential for safe and efficient operations in the global shipping environment.

Abstract

The international shipping industry is the backbone of global trade, with around 90% of international trade carried out by sea. As an integral part of the global transportation system, this industry plays an important role in facilitating the exchange of goods and services between countries. In this context, the quality and competence of seafarers is a crucial factor in ensuring the safety and efficiency of ship operations. This research explores the influence of Certificate of Competency (COC) and Certificate of Proficiency (COP) diplomas on seafarers' salaries in Indonesia, a developing country with unique maritime industry characteristics. Using a quantitative approach, this research analyzed data from 49 seafarers, and found that COC had a significant positive influence on wages, while COP did not show a statistically significant influence. These findings emphasize the importance of COC certification in increasing seafarers' earning potential, and suggest that the focus of seafarers' career development be directed at achieving higher COC levels for career advancement in the maritime industry.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the optimization of the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the loading and unloading process at the Port of Sorong, Southwest Papua, in line with the Regulation of the Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Number PER.08/MEN/VII/2010. With a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observation and in-depth interviews with workers, supervisors, and port management. The results of the study indicate that although PPE has been provided in accordance with the standards, the level of worker compliance is still low, mainly due to discomfort and lack of awareness of the importance of work safety. In addition, suboptimal supervision and unclear sanctions also contribute to low compliance. This study recommends increased supervision, stricter implementation of sanctions, and the provision of more ergonomic PPE to improve occupational safety and operational efficiency at Sorong Port.

Abstract

Kenaikan temperatur gas buang (exhaust gas temperature/EGT) pada mesin diesel dua langkah merupakan indikator penting terjadinya ketidaksempurnaan pembakaran atau gangguan pada sistem udara bilas dan bahan bakar. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis faktor penyebab peningkatan temperatur gas buang pada mesin induk Ssang Yong B/W 6L/35MC di MT. Mutiara Global. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif melalui observasi, wawancara dengan awak mesin, serta analisis dokumen seperti logbook dan manual mesin. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa EGT mencapai 540°C akibat kombinasi penurunan kinerja turbocharger karena penumpukan kerak karbon, serta pola pengabutan bahan bakar yang tidak sempurna akibat kebocoran pada nozzle injector. Kondisi ini menyebabkan suplai udara berkurang, pembakaran tidak optimal, dan ketidakseimbangan tenaga antar silinder. Ketidakteraturan perawatan turut memperburuk peningkatan suhu. Penelitian menegaskan pentingnya perawatan terjadwal pada turbocharger dan injector serta pemantauan real-time untuk menjaga efisiensi mesin.

Abstract

Kenaikan temperatur air pendingin pada mesin induk kapal merupakan indikasi gangguan sistem pendingin yang dapat menyebabkan overheating dan menurunkan kinerja mesin. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi faktor penyebab peningkatan temperatur air pendingin pada kapal CB. KCT 4001 serta langkah penanganan yang tepat. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif melalui observasi komponen sistem pendingin—termasuk strainer, pompa air laut, impeller, heat exchanger, dan kualitas coolant—serta wawancara dengan masinis dan kru kamar mesin. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penyumbatan strainer, keausan impeller, endapan pada heat exchanger, serta penurunan kualitas coolant merupakan penyebab utama naiknya temperatur air pendingin. Ketidakteraturan perawatan berkala semakin memperburuk kondisi sistem. Diperlukan pembersihan rutin strainer dan cooler, perawatan impeller, penggantian coolant berkala, serta peningkatan koordinasi kru dalam merespons alarm temperatur untuk menjaga stabilitas sistem pendingin dan mencegah overheating.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis efektivitas pengawasan bongkar muat di KM Lintas Bahari 18 serta mengidentifikasi kendala operasional yang memengaruhi keselamatan dan kelancaran proses bongkar muat. Metode yang digunakan yaitu kualitatif deskriptif melalui wawancara, observasi langsung, dan dokumentasi terhadap perwira jaga, kru deck, dan tenaga bongkar muat pelabuhan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengawasan telah mengikuti prosedur dasar, namun efektivitasnya masih dipengaruhi keterbatasan alat bantu, kerusakan peralatan, ketidaksesuaian muatan, serta kurangnya ketelitian dalam pemeriksaan dokumen. Faktor manusia, termasuk pengalaman kru, beban kerja, dan konsistensi penerapan SOP juga berpengaruh signifikan. Optimalisasi pengawasan dapat dilakukan melalui peningkatan koordinasi, pemeriksaan dokumen yang lebih teliti, pemeliharaan alat secara berkala, serta pelatihan rutin bagi kru. Upaya tersebut diharapkan mampu meningkatkan efisiensi operasional dan mengurangi risiko kerusakan muatan maupun kecelakaan kerja.

Abstract

Transportasi laut memegang peranan penting dalam menghubungkan pulau-pulau di Indonesia, khususnya melalui kapal penumpang yang menjadi sarana utama mobilitas masyarakat dan distribusi logistik. Efektivitas operasional kapal bergantung pada kelancaran proses embarkasi, debarkasi, dan bongkar muat. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif untuk mengevaluasi proses tersebut pada KM. SABUK NUSANTARA 62 milik PT. Mandala Sejahtera Abadi. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara dengan Nakhoda, Mualim I, ABK, dan agen perusahaan, serta studi pustaka terkait prosedur operasional dan keselamatan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan hambatan seperti antrean tiket manual, keterlibatan pengantar dan pedagang asongan, keterbatasan koordinasi kru kapal dengan pihak pelabuhan, serta keterbatasan peran ABK dalam bongkar muat. Penelitian ini menekankan pentingnya peningkatan koordinasi, pemanfaatan teknologi verifikasi tiket, dan keterlibatan ABK. Penerapan perbaikan prosedur dan manajemen operasional dapat meningkatkan efisiensi, keselamatan, dan kenyamanan penumpang.
