Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of the Paired Storytelling model in responding to short story texts listened to thru audio podcasts and to evaluate the effectiveness of this model in improving listening skills of Phase F students at SMAN 12 Bandung. The main problem in this study is the low listening skills of students, caused by a lack of attention to the listening process and the ineffectiveness of the media and learning models used. This research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method of the Non-Equivalent Control Group Design type. The research sample consists of two classes: the experimental class using the Paired Storytelling model and podcast media, and the control class using the conventional discussion model. Data collection techniques were carried out thru observation, attitude assessment, and pre- and post-tests. Data analysis was performed using statistical tests with the assistance of IBM SPSS Statistics 25. The research results indicate that the Paired Storytelling model using audio podcasts has a significant positive impact on improving students' listening comprehension skills. Students in the experimental class showed better learning outcomes compared to the control class, both in terms of understanding the structure and intrinsic elements of short stories. Thus, the audio podcast-assisted Paired Storytelling model is recommended as an effective and innovative learning strategy for improving literary text listening skills, particularly for short stories.

Abstract

Mastery of basic concepts of the Indonesian language plays a crucial role in supporting the academic and professional success of education students, particularly in the digital era characterized by the rapid development of information and communication technology. The digital era has brought significant changes to students’ language practices, which are indicated by the increasing use of informal language and the neglect of linguistic norms in academic contexts. This study aims to examine the urgency of mastering basic concepts of the Indonesian language for education students in the digital era and its implications for strengthening academic literacy and the professional readiness of prospective teachers. This research employs a qualitative approach using a library research method through the analysis of reference books, scholarly journal articles, and relevant educational policy documents. The findings indicate that mastery of basic Indonesian language concepts serves as a foundation for academic literacy that influences critical thinking skills, argumentative ability, and linguistic accuracy among education students. Furthermore, digital literacy that is not supported by strong conceptual language understanding has the potential to reduce the quality of academic language. Therefore, strengthening the mastery of basic Indonesian language concepts in higher education is a strategic necessity to prepare education students who are adaptive, critical, and professionally competent in the digital era.

Abstract

Abstract

Drama script writing in higher education often emphasizes technical structure while underutilizing students’ cultural knowledge as a creative resource. Integrating local wisdom into writing instruction may strengthen both dramaturgical competence and cultural literacy. This study investigates the effectiveness of a local wisdom based learning model in improving drama script writing among language education students. A mixed methods approach using a sequential explanatory design was employed with 35 undergraduate students. Quantitative data were collected through document analysis, engagement observation, questionnaires, and pre and post script assessment. Qualitative data from interviews and script analysis were used to explain quantitative patterns. Instructional planning demonstrated substantial integration of local wisdom, and students showed high engagement during culturally grounded activities. Script scores improved significantly from a mean of 68 to 82, indicating measurable gains in conflict development, characterization, and structural coherence. Qualitative findings revealed that cultural values functioned as structural drivers of dramatic conflict rather than decorative themes. The findings suggest that structured integration of local wisdom can enhance drama writing competence while deepening students’ cultural literacy within a specific higher education context. The study contributes to culturally sustaining pedagogy by clarifying how local cultural knowledge may operate as a pedagogical resource in creative writing instruction.

Abstract

This research presents an innovative approach to numeracy instruction for pre-service elementary school teachers using holographic images. The primary contribution is the integration of low-cost, mobile-based holographic prototyping within teacher education to enhance spatial reasoning, foster interdisciplinary learning, and support experiential pedagogy. This research aims to analyze prospective teachers' perspectives on holographic media in numeracy learning, with a focus on their experiences in designing and evaluating hologram prototypes for classroom use. A qualitative methodology was adopted, involving 59 pre-service teachers from an elementary teacher education program. Data collection utilized questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, with thematic analysis employed to identify key patterns and themes. Participants engaged in an iterative design process, developing and testing several holographic prototypes, which resulted in a truncated pyramid configuration optimized for mobile-based projection. The analysis identified four principal themes: interdisciplinary applicability, pedagogical strategies for young learners, development of holographic problem-solving skills, and improved spatial–structural understanding. The findings suggest that holographic learning activities enhance student engagement, deepen conceptual understanding, and strengthen both spatial and collaborative skills. This study extends the literature on numeracy and STEM education by illustrating the effective integration of immersive holographic media into pre-service teacher training as a practical and pedagogically valuable instructional innovation.
