Abstract

This study examines the impact of economic digitalization on traditional traders and the survival strategies they develop at Teratak Market, Central Lombok. The study employed a qualitative approach. Data were collected through non-participant observation, unstructured interviews, and documentation, with purposive selection of informants. Data validity was strengthened through source, method, and time triangulation, while analysis followed data collection, reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that digitalization has reduced market visitors and traders' income, particularly among traders whose products compete directly with online commerce. Consumers were attracted by lower prices, discounts, product variety, and home delivery. Nevertheless, several traders were able to use Facebook, TikTok, or Shopee with assistance from family members. Three principal survival strategies were identified: lowering selling prices, selling goods through credit, and distributing unsold goods door-to-door around neighboring hamlets. These strategies are supported by social capital in the form of trust, social norms, and trader networks. Trust enables credit transactions, norms regulate market participation and transactions, and networks facilitate mutual assistance and access to goods. The study therefore shows that the survival of traditional traders is not based solely on price adjustment, but also on the mobilization of social relations embedded in the market community.

Abstract

This study examines the pattern of latent conflict between PT. Sadhana and cultivator farmers and its implications for the community economy in Senanggalih Village, Sambelia District, East Lombok Regency. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through naturalistic observation, interviews, and documentation involving 16 informants consisting of village officials, community representatives, and farmers. Data were analyzed through reduction, display, and conclusion or verification, with validity strengthened through source, technique, and time triangulation. The findings show that the latent conflict developed as a continuation of earlier open land conflict after mediation reduced overt confrontation without resolving the underlying dispute over access and management of land. The latent pattern was reflected in negative discussion, complaints, surveillance, rejection or ignoring of company requests, delayed responses, unorganized resistance to partnership, and generalized distrust. The economic implications were most visible in agricultural production because cultivator farmers faced limitations in accessing land, capital, technology, and agricultural infrastructure. The company’s contribution through employment, empowerment, and social infrastructure was considered limited by informants and had not substantially improved the local economy. The study concludes that unresolved tenure relations and weak communication can reproduce latent conflict and constrain local economic development.

Abstract

This study examines the forms of conflict and conflict resolution associated with illegal stone-mining activities in Lendang Nangka Utara Village, Masbagik District, East Lombok Regency. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through non-participant observation, unstructured interviews, and documentation involving stone miners, a landowner, village and hamlet officials, the village-owned enterprise (BUMDes), and community representatives. Data credibility was examined through source, technique, and time triangulation, while analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show two interconnected forms of conflict. Vertical conflict occurs between village authorities and miners over environmental protection, regulation, and livelihood needs, while unequal control over land and mining income also creates tensions between landowners and workers. Horizontal conflict is reflected in disagreements among residents concerning the distribution of economic benefits, land use, environmental degradation, and the risks to water resources. Conflict-resolution efforts consist of socialization, mediation, and the formation of Joint Business Groups (KUB). These measures have opened communication and provided alternative economic activities, but they have not fully ended illegal mining. The village is therefore preparing stronger social control through BUMDes and an economic-magnet strategy based on tourism, local trade, and productive use of land. Using Galtung's framework, socialization and mediation are interpreted as peacemaking, KUB as peacekeeping, and social control and alternative economic development as peacebuilding. Sustainable resolution requires environmental protection to be combined with realistic livelihood alternatives, skills development, and sustained community participation.

This study describes the characteristics of child workers and analyzes the factors encouraging children to work in North Masbagik Village, East Lombok, using Alfred Schutz’s social phenomenology. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving 16 informants: 10 child workers and 6 supporting informants from the surrounding community and workplaces. Data validity was examined through source and theoretical triangulation, while analysis involved data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that all child workers were boys aged 14–17 years; seven had dropped out of school and three were still attending school. Their jobs included workshops, daily labor, grocery stores, and food-related activities, with daily earnings of Rp20,000–Rp90,000. Abstract

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of the relational and communicative dynamics between fathers and their children in shaping character amidst the challenges of modernity faced by Generation Z a context where such relationships often contend with emotional distance and limited verbal communication. The study aims to analyze father-child relationship patterns, describe how university students interpret these relationships, and identify the character values cultivated in Generation Z students at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Economics, Universitas Hamzanwadi. A descriptive qualitative approach within an interpretive paradigm was employed, utilizing in-depth interviews with 20 informants; data were analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña interactive model and examined through the lenses of Family Communication Patterns Theory and Herbert Blumer’s Symbolic Interactionism Theory. The findings reveal that father-child relationship patterns fall into two categories: close and limited; students interpret limited verbal communication and their fathers' physical hard work as symbols of affection (action-oriented meaning) and catalysts for independence; and these dynamics contribute significantly to shaping five key character values in the students: independence, responsibility, discipline, self-confidence, and self-control.
