Abstract

The modern era has brought significant changes to human life, including to family structures and relationships. The dominance of individualism and materialism, as well as the development of digital technology, has affected the quality of interpersonal relationships within families. This paper aims to analyse the family as communio personarum in the modern era, based on the teachings of Familiaris Consortio. The research method used was qualitative research with a descriptive-analytical approach through a literature study of Church documents, particularly Familiaris Consortio, as well as theological literature on family and related scientific literature. The results of the study show that the family as Ecclesia Domestica is called to live out a communion of persons rooted in Trinitarian love. However, the modern reality reveals serious challenges in the form of individualism, work commitments, and technological dependency, which reduce the quality of family relationships. Therefore, an updated understanding and practice of communio personarum is required to ensure that the family remains an authentic and relevant community of love in the modern era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the existence of the Manggarai-Flores mother tongue amidst the tide of modernity using Ludwig Wittgenstein’s philosophy of language. The mother tongue is understood not only as a tool for communication but also as a medium for shaping meaning, identity, and the sociocultural practices of a community. The research method employed is a qualitative approach using a literature review, examining various works related to the philosophy of language, mother tongues, and the Manggarai language. The findings indicate that the Manggarai language serves a complex function as a living system of meaning embedded in the daily practices of the community. From Wittgenstein’s perspective, the meaning of language is determined by its use within the context of everyday life (language games). This is evident in Manggarai cultural practices such as traditional rituals, oral literature, and daily communication, which are rich in social and cultural values. However, technological advancements and the dominance of national and global languages have led to a shift in the use of the mother tongue, particularly among the younger generation. Thus, the Manggarai language faces not only the threat of linguistic extinction but also the potential loss of cultural identity. Therefore, the preservation of mother tongues must be achieved through their integration into education, the strengthening of cultural literacy, and the revitalization of language use in the social life of the community.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the shifting meanings of the Tetun belis ema practice and the forms of objectification of women that emerge within it. The study employs a qualitative literature review method, drawing on various scholarly sources related to belis culture, patriarchy, gender relations, and feminism. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis techniques from a socio-cultural feminist perspective. The results of the study indicate that belis is fundamentally a symbol of respect for women, a bond of kinship, and a form of social legitimacy within the traditional Ema Tetun marriage. However, social developments and the influence of patriarchal culture have shifted the meaning of belis into a transactional practice that positions women as objects of economic exchange and symbols of social status. This shift is evident in the determination of the belis value based on a woman’s education, social and economic status, and physical attributes. This practice has the potential to foster subordination, marginalization, and the legitimization of male power over women. Therefore, a reconstruction of the meaning of belis is necessary so that it continues to be understood as a form of respect for women’s dignity, rather than as a legitimization of control over women.

Abstract

This study examines the eco-eschatological dimensions embedded in the myths and traditions of pante among the Manggarai people of East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. The pante tradition is not merely understood as an economic activity involving the tapping and processing of palm sap, but also as a cultural practice that embodies ecological, spiritual, social, and ethical values. Through this tradition, the Manggarai people maintain a harmonious relationship with nature and recognize their responsibility toward the environment as part of a sacred cosmic order. This study employs a qualitative approach based on literature review and hermeneutical-theological analysis to explore the symbolic meanings and theological implications of the pante myth. The findings reveal that the pante myth reflects the Manggarai people’s cosmological worldview, in which nature is regarded as a living and sacred reality that must be respected and protected. Furthermore, the tradition promotes an ethic of sustainability that discourages excessive exploitation of natural resources and encourages balance between human needs and environmental preservation. From an eco-eschatological perspective, the pante tradition represents a vision of hope for the restoration of relationships among humans, nature, and God, anticipating the fulfillment of the “new heaven and new earth.” Therefore, this study affirms that Manggarai local wisdom provides a valuable contribution to the development of contextual, ecological, and sustainable theology in contemporary society.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has significantly transformed human life, particularly in communication, social interaction, and the ways knowledge is accessed and developed. On the one hand, technology provides convenience, efficiency, and broader access to information. On the other hand, it also generates various challenges, including individualism, alienation, declining quality of interpersonal relationships, and weakening moral awareness in the use of digital technology. This article aims to examine the humanization of digital technology through the perspective of Immanuel Kant's philosophy of education as a normative foundation for promoting technology that remains oriented toward human values. This study employs a qualitative research method using a library research approach. The data were collected from Immanuel Kant's philosophical works, books on philosophy, and scholarly articles concerning philosophy of technology, education, and digital society. Data were analyzed descriptively and analytically through processes of data reduction, interpretation, and synthesis of relevant literature. The findings indicate that technology is fundamentally a product of human rationality and an inseparable part of modern civilization. Nevertheless, the dominance of efficiency and instrumental rationality tends to transform humans from subjects into objects of technology, giving rise to individualism and social alienation. In response to these challenges, Immanuel Kant's philosophy of education provides a framework for the humanization of technology by cultivating rational, moral, and responsible individuals. This humanization is realized through four educational principles proposed by Kant: discipline, moral education, skill development, and socialization. These principles constitute a conceptual framework that enables technology to remain a means of human development while preserving human dignity, freedom, and moral responsibility in the digital age.

Abstract

The phenomenon of cohabitation or living together without a legally recognized marriage has become one of the social issues developing in modern society. Changes in values, cultural development, economic factors, and shifting understandings of commitment and marriage have contributed to the increasing practice of cohabitation. In the Indonesian context, this phenomenon generates debate because it encounters legal, religious, and cultural norms that consider marriage as an important institution in human life. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of cohabitation through Martin Buber’s dialogical philosophy, particularly the concepts of the I-It and I-Thou relations. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach by analyzing Martin Buber’s works and various literature related to cohabitation, marriage, and human relations. The findings indicate that cohabitation cannot merely be understood as a legal or moral issue but also as a philosophical issue concerning the quality of human relationships. From Buber’s perspective, relationships oriented only toward personal needs, comfort, or specific interests tend to become I-It relations because the other person is reduced to an object. Conversely, the I-Thou relation emphasizes respect for personal dignity, openness, responsibility, and authentic encounters between individuals. Therefore, Martin Buber’s thought provides a critical reflection that human relationships should be built upon dialogue, responsibility, and respect for others as complete and valuable persons.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has transformed human lifestyles, particularly among the younger generation, who are increasingly engaged in online activities such as online gaming. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of online game addiction from the perspective of F. Budi Hardiman’s philosophy of technology through the concept of “I Click, Therefore I Am.” The research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, using textual analysis of Hardiman’s works and relevant literature on online game addiction. The findings indicate that online games not only affect psychological and social aspects but also give rise to an existential crisis in the digital era. Human existence, previously grounded in the awareness of thinking (cogito ergo sum), has shifted toward an existence based on digital activities such as clicking, virtual interaction, and connectivity within online games. This condition leads to a reduction in social presence, a decline in relational sensitivity, and dependency on virtual spaces. Thus, online game addiction is not merely a behavioral issue but also a manifestation of an ontological transformation of humans toward homo digitalis. This study emphasizes the importance of critical awareness in the use of technology so that humans do not lose their existential dimension amid the dominance of the digital world.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of super-priority tourism in Labuan Bajo using Amartya Sen’s “development as freedom” perspective. This study is motivated by the paradox of tourism development, which, on the one hand, drives economic growth but, on the other hand, gives rise to various social and cultural issues as well as inequalities for local communities. The research method employed is a qualitative approach using a descriptive-analytical design through a literature review. Data were obtained from books, scientific journals, government documents, and various other relevant sources related to tourism development and Amartya Sen’s development theory. The results of the study indicate that tourism development in Labuan Bajo has not yet fully expanded the substantive freedoms of local communities. Investor dominance, inequalities in land ownership, low-quality human resources, and minimal community participation constitute forms of “unfreedoms” that the community continues to experience. Therefore, tourism development needs to be directed toward a development model that is inclusive, participatory, and socially just so that the well-being of local communities can be realized more equitably.

Abstract

Corruption is a multidimensional problem that not only causes economic losses to the state but also reflects a moral and religious crisis in national life. This study aims to analyze the paradox between Indonesia's identity as a religious nation and the persistence of corrupt practices through a philosophical examination of the first principle of Pancasila, Belief in the One and Only God. The research employs a qualitative method using a descriptive-analytical approach based on library research. Data were collected from books, scholarly journal articles, official documents, and other relevant literature on corruption, Pancasila, and the philosophy of religion, and were analyzed using philosophical and interpretative methods. The findings indicate that corruption is not merely a violation of law or an abuse of power but also a denial of the moral values embodied in the first principle of Pancasila. Corrupt practices reveal a significant gap between the religious identity embraced by Indonesian society and the actual implementation of honesty, responsibility, and justice in public life. This study concludes that combating corruption requires not only legal and institutional reforms but also the strengthening of moral awareness, character formation, and the internalization of the values of Belief in the One and Only God as the ethical foundation of national and state life.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the low wages of honorary teachers in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and its impact on the quality of education using Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory as a perspective. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, combining literature review and secondary data analysis from various relevant sources, including government reports, journal articles, and media news. The results indicate that most of the teachers’ basic needs, especially physiological and safety needs, have not been optimally met due to low income and job insecurity. This condition negatively affects teachers’ motivation, professionalism, and teaching quality in schools. While social needs are relatively fulfilled through community support, teachers’ esteem and self-actualization needs remain constrained. Policy disparities, limited facilities, and minimal social protection further exacerbate the situation. The study concludes that the welfare issue of honorary teachers in Flores is a systemic problem that requires serious attention from the government and education stakeholders. The study recommends fairer policy reforms, enhanced teacher welfare, and professional development support to sustainably improve the quality of education.
