Abstract

Dengue infection is one of the significant global health problems, especially in children. This paper aims to identify factors that affect the severity of dengue infection in the child population. The factors analysed included age, infection status, obesity, viral genome and Ns1 protein titers of dengue. Children who are younger and have an obese nutritional status tend to experience more severe symptoms. In addition, high NS1 titers, viral genomes, and secondary infections also contribute to a higher risk of infection. Detecting warning signs is important because it can be used as a predictor of more severe dengue infection.

Abstract

Management of intradialytic nonthrombotic complications in patients with chronic kidney disease is an essential aspect of hemodialysis care. These complications, such as hypotension, hypertension, DDS, muscle cramps, nausea and itching, can have a significant effect on the patient's well-being. Effective treatment requires a multidisciplinary approach that involves the medical team, patient education, and close monitoring during dialysis sessions. Effective protocols, including fluid volume regulation and the proper use of medications, play a crucial role in reducing the frequency and severity of complications. With the right management strategy, it is hoped that the quality of life of patients can be improved, and the morbidity rate associated with intradialytic nonthrombotic complications can be minimised. Further research is needed to optimise clinical practice and enhance the understanding of these complications.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Rhinitis is one of the upper respiratory tract disorders with a continuously increasing global prevalence. Although it is considered a common condition, the characteristics of rhinitis patients vary across regions and are influenced by demographic, environmental, and genetic factors. This study aimed to describe the characteristics of patients with rhinitis at RSUD Tabanan during 2020–2023, based on age group, sex, family history of atopy, and main clinical complaints. This study employed a descriptive, cross-sectional design, using retrospective data from the medical records of patients attending the otorhinolaryngology outpatient clinic. The sampling technique used was non-probability sampling with a total sampling method. Data analysis was performed univariately and presented as frequency distribution tables. The results showed that the 10–19-year age group was the most common (24.6%), the majority of patients were male (62.3%), most patients had no history of atopy (92.8%), Tabanan District was the area with the highest number of cases (23.2%), which may be influenced by the location of RSUD Tabanan in Tabanan District, and the main presenting complaint was nasal obstruction (66.7%). This study provides an overview of the characteristics of patients with rhinitis at Tabanan Regional General Hospital, which is expected to serve as a basis for improving diagnostic accuracy and planning more effective management and preventive strategies. Keywords: Allergic Rhinitis, Non-Allergic Rhinitis, Patient Characteristics, Clinical Complaints.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) remains a significant health problem as it contributes to hearing impairment and serious complications, particularly in developing countries. Although the number of CSOM cases at Mangusada Hospital has increased in recent years, local data on the characteristics of CSOM patients at this hospital remain limited. This study aimed to describe the characteristics of CSOM patients at Mangusada Hospital, including age, sex, clinical symptoms, history of infection, and comorbidities. This study used a cross-sectional design with a descriptive observational approach. Data were obtained from the medical records of CSOM patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 141 patients were included using consecutive sampling. The results showed that most CSOM patients were in the adult age group (18–59 years), with a higher proportion of females than males. The most common clinical symptom was otorrhea, and the majority of patients experienced only one clinical symptom. More than half of the patients had no documented history of infection or comorbidities in their medical records. Middle-aged females need to improve ear hygiene to prevent the incidence of suppurative media otitis. Keywords: Characteristics, Chronic, Hearing, Otitis Media, Suppurative.

Abstract

Tuberculosis remains a global health problem due to an increasing number of tuberculosis cases, the high dropout rate of tuberculosis treatment, and the increase in cases of drug-resistant tuberculosis. Support both from family and the community as a health care worker who monitors and observes whether the tuberculosis drugs are taken correctly by the patients. This community service aims to empower the community by providing health care providers or supervisors with guidance on taking tuberculosis medicine. The community services are carried out by conducting socialization, focus group discussions, counseling, and training. The average analysis of the partner's pre-test score was 30, with the lowest score being 20 and the highest score being 40. The post-test score was 83.3, with the lowest score being 70 and the highest score being 90. The average increase in partners has exceeded the target of > 70, and the growth has occurred in all partners (100%). The assessment of role-playing skills as a TB PMO officer showed a 70% increase in skills among partners. The need to form a supervisor to take medication for tuberculosis patients is a must in the elimination of tuberculosis disease.
