Abstract

The increase in production and productivity of cardamom plants is a continuous effort by the Banyumas Regency Government. One of the efforts made is through a cardamom development program. Farmers' perceptions  of  cardamom  farming  are  a  crucial  factor  in  the  development  of  cardamom,  as  they  can influence the decision to engage in farming. This research aims to: (1) understand farmers' perceptions of cardamom farming, and (2) identify the factors influencing farmers' perceptions of cardamom farming. The study was conducted in July 2024 in Sambirata Village, Cilongok District. A total of 40 cardamom farmers were selected as research respondents. Primary data were collected through observations and interviews using a prepared questionnaire. Secondary data were gathered from various sources, literature, and records related to the research. The data were processed and analyzed descriptively to determine the level of perception and using multiple linear regression analysis to identify the factors influencing perceptions. The results of the research indicate that the overall level of farmers' perceptions of cardamom farming in Banyumas Regency falls into the good category, with a percentage of 77.71%. Factors influencing farmers' perceptions of cardamom farming include age, formal education, number of family dependents, farming experience, and institutional support. Meanwhile, perceptions are not influenced by non-formal education and income (Sig value <0.05).

Abstract

Broiler chicken farms that have developed successfully in the world, such as Charoen Pokphand in Thailand and its branches in other countries, are large-scale and vertically integrated businesses. So that the farm is able to achieve economies of scale. On the contrary, most broiler chicken farms in Indonesia are run on a small scale. Under government policy, small-scale broiler chicken farms cooperate with large companies in partnerships. This study aims to identify economies of scale in partnered broiler chicken farms in Indonesia. This study used secondary data of 228 partner farmer units from the 2014 Livestock Business Household Survey by the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency. The analysis used two approach methods, namely statistically descriptive and linear regression models. The results showed that the partnered broiler chicken farms experienced economies of scale, where the production cost per unit is significantly cheaper on an increasingly large business scale. This shows that the government needs to collaborate with broiler chicken companies to implement a livestock group-based partnership model for small-scale farmers to be able to achieve economies of scale.

Abstract

Livestock has a strategic role in supporting food security and economic development in Indonesia. West Bandung Regency is one of the interesting locations to study in the context of developing an agribusiness system. Despite its great potential, there are challenges in livestock development such as limited market access, the lack of distribution networks, lack of knowledge about market needs and preferences, and obstacles in complying with applicable quality standards and regulations, then the lack of supporting infrastructure and climate change. This study aims to determine the sub-district area that can be used as the basis for the development strategy of the dairy farming agribusiness system with specific contributions to the development of productivity, product diversification, farmer skills and the development of supporting infrastructure. The forms of research used are quantitative and qualitative that complement each other in a mixed approach to collect extensive data on the results of the research, conduct interviews to explore specific findings and validate the findings in the context of a deeper understanding of the data found. The sample used was 10 farmers with a purposive sampling technique. Data was collected from May to July 2024. The data collected is analyzed and if necessary validated with participants to ensure its accuracy and relevance. Data collection techniques are carried out using LQ analysis techniques, EFE and IFE analysis and SWOT analysis to produce concrete strategic solutions. The instruments in this study use an interview, observation and questionnaire system to facilitate data processing. The results showed that the total score of the weight of internal and external factors was located in the position of quadrant I (2,464 ; 2,696). If the position of the quadrant is in quadrant 1, the strategy is an aggressive growth strategy. This is very advantageous because it has strengths and opportunities. Keywords: Agribusiness, IE Matrix, LQ, SWOT

Abstract

The livestock subsector contributes significantly to meeting the need for animal protein and improving the local economy. The study aims to analyze the development of beef, poultry, egg, and milk production, as well as the economic growth of the livestock subsector in West Java. In addition, the study also highlights the number of workers involved and investment in the livestock subsector. This study uses secondary data from the West Java Central Statistics Agency and related agencies. The results of the study show fluctuations in meat and egg production from 2020 to 2023, with poultry and egg production of laying hens experiencing a significant increase. However, the number of workers in this subsector has tended to decline in recent years, in line with the decline in the number of livestock business households. On the other hand, investment in the domestic (PMDN) and foreign (PMA) livestock subsectors has increased significantly, especially in cattle and poultry farming. These results indicate that the livestock subsector in West Java has a strategic role in supporting the local economy, despite the challenges of production fluctuations and a decline in the workforce.

Abstract

Nutmeg is an Indonesian spice commodity with the highest export value in the past five years. Although Indonesia still dominates the global nutmeg market, its export volume growth rate tends to lag behind competitor countries, especially re-exporting countries. This study aims to analyze the determinants of Indonesian nutmeg export volume to the ten main importing countries in both the long and short-run. The data used are secondary data from 1994–2023, analyzed using the Error Correction Mechanism (ECM) estimation method. ECM analysis indicates that, in both the long and short-run, domestic production has an insignificant effect, Indonesia's GDP has a significant negative effect, while the GDP of destination countries, export price index, and exchange rate have significant positive effects on Indonesian nutmeg export volume to the ten main importing countries. Additionally, the population of destination countries has a significant positive effect in the long-run but is insignificant in the short-run. Moreover, the  variable in the short-run has a significant negative effect on Indonesian nutmeg export volume the ten main importing countries.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has had an impact on changes in community economic activity, resulting in an impetus for increasing poverty rates (BPS, 2020). This happens because of the community's space for movement so that it has an impact on the community's ability to obtain safe and sufficient food. Based on the 2020 Food Security Index, most districts in West Java are in a very resilient status. The status of food security at the provincial or city/district scale does not always guarantee that every individual is food secure because each region has different characteristics. Therefore, it is necessary to study the model of the influence of the proportion of poverty and the proportion of the population infected with Covid-19 on food security in Bandung Regency to the village level. This study aims to model the effect of the proportion of poverty and the proportion of the population infected with Covid-19 on the resilience of Bandung Regency using Geographically Weight Regression (GWR), which is a geographically weighted regression. Based on the analysis of the model of the effect of the proportion of the population infected with Covid-19 and poverty on food security in Bandung Regency, there are 280 different GWR models. In the GWR model the effect of the proportion of the population infected with Covid-19 on food security, there are 40 villages in red (high influence) and 15 villages in green (low influence). The village that has the highest influence on the proportion of the population infected with Covid-19 is Nengkelan Village with a coefficient of 21.02323822 and Laksana Village has the lowest effect with a coefficient of -18.760392. While the GWR model of the effect of poverty on food security is found in 9 villages in red color and 4 villages in green color. The village with the highest influence is Cipelah Village with a coefficient of 0.661185245 while the village with the lowest influence is Sukaresmi Village with a coefficient of -2.667401414.

Abstract

Hybrid corn has high productivity and contributes to the growth of the animal feed industry. However, farmers' use of hybrid corn varieties still needs improvement. Farmers have complained about the relatively high price of hybrid corn seeds. Pesisir Selatan Regency is one of the leading corn producers in West Sumatra. In 2022, the corn production reached 203,028.00, the second highest after West Pasaman. However, the productivity is only 6 tons/ha, which is still low compared to the potential productivity of hybrid corn, which is 10-12 tons/ha. The productivity achievements are related to the technical culture farmers apply and their income and feasibility. This study aims to (1) describe the technical culture of hybrid corn and (2) analyze the income and feasibility of hybrid corn farming. The research was carried out in the "Pesisir Selatan" Regency, which is one of the leading producers of hybrid corn in West Sumatra. Data was collected by observation and interviews with 50 farmers, PPL, collector traders, and production input suppliers. The variables observed were related to technical culture, land area, amount of production, selling price, costs paid, and farming costs. Data collection was carried out in the last planting season. The data were analyzed by comparing the suitability of technical culture with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), income analysis, and income and profit analysis. The study shows that farmers' technical culture is partially influenced by GAP, especially in embroidery, seeding, and fertilization activities. The income received by farmers reached Rp. 17,737,815.71/Ha/MT, and profits amounted to Rp. 8,022,822.02/Ha/MT. Hybrid corn farming has an R/C value of 1.34, making it feasible and profitable for farmers.
