Abstract

The history of the codification of the Qur'an has been extensively documented, but existing research often focuses on philological and political narratives, leaving a significant gap in research on the educational philosophy underlying the process. This type of research is qualitative. This study investigates the educational values contained in the transition from oral revelation to written codex through a historical-phenomenological approach. The historical approach is used to analyze the stages of codification from the era of the Prophet Muhammad to the Mus'haf Uthman, not merely as administrative events, but as a deliberate pedagogical framework for the preservation and standardization of knowledge. The phenomenological approach is used to analyze various theories related to the socio-cultural context of the Qur'an. This study finds that the codification process institutionalized core educational values, including itqan (accuracy), amanah (intellectual integrity), and the democratization of literacy. The uniqueness of this study lies in its reinterpretation of historical documents as a structured pedagogical movement. These findings contribute to the field of Islamic Education by providing historical precedents for modern curriculum standardization and quality assurance in religious education.

Abstract

This article examines the grammatical (linguistic) approach in al-Munīr’s interpretation of Qur’anic verses related to religious moderation. However, previous studies generally discuss religious moderation thematically without examining the linguistic strategies used by Wahbah Zuḥaylī in Tafsir al-Munīr. How is nahwu analysis applied in the interpretation of verses on religious moderation and its linguistic implications in constructing a discourse of moderation? This study shows that the lughawī approach not only functions as a tool for text analysis but also as a mechanism for creating the meaning of moderation in contemporary tafsir. The primary focus of this study is how linguistic aspects, such as i’rab, mufradat meaning, balaghah, and syntactic and morphological structures, are used by Zuhaili to form a moderate narrative in a religious and national context. This study uses a qualitative method based on a literature review with a descriptive-analytical approach. Primary data is sourced from Tafsir al-Munir, while secondary data is obtained from other Arabic exegesis and linguistic works. The linguistic approach in this study focuses on nahwu analysis through i’rab and mufradat in Tafsir al-Munīr. The verses were selected thematically, in line with the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs’ indicators of Religious Moderation. The results show that Zuhaili consistently applies a linguistic interpretation pattern through etymological, semantic, and syntactic approaches, which strengthen the understanding of verses on defending the country, tolerance, justice, leadership, and unity. The emphasis on the accuracy of word meaning and sentence structure in these verses clarifies messages of moderation, such as love for the homeland, anti-extremism, and respect for diversity

Abstract

This research is motivated by the presence of an interpretative gap in understanding Qur'anic stories containing supra-rational dimensions amidst the dominance of the modern-scientific paradigm. This study aims to critically adapt Rudolf Bultmann's theory of demythologization to extract the existential meaning (kerygma) from Qur'anic stories, while preserving the authenticity and sanctity of revelation. Through a qualitative content analysis approach that integrates Mohammed Arkoun's perspective, this research develops a methodological framework that filters the demythologization process through the principles of Ulūm al-Tafsir in the form of a hermeneutics of recovery. The research findings reveal three substantive points: first, the formulation of a hierarchical and systematic five-stage implementation model; second, the successful identification of the profound kerygma from three Qur'anic stories based on Angelika Neuwirth's two basic categorizations: Myths of Nature in the event of the splitting of the Red Sea (Q.S. al-Baqarah [2]:50) as divine liberation from oppression; and Myths of Heroic Figures such as the story of Ashāb as-Sabt (Q.S. al-Baqarah [2]:65, Q.S. al-A'rāf [7]:163-166), moral degradation as a consequence of wickedness, and spiritual ascent towards enlightenment in the story of the Prophet Muhammad's Isrā’ (Q.S. al-Isrā' [17]:1); third, the proven effectiveness of hermeneutics of recovery as a methodological filter that maintains the dialectic between text and context within the epistemological framework of tafsir. The study concludes that the filtered integration between Bultmann's demythologization and the framework of Ulūm al-Tafsir not only enables relevant contextual readings but also preserves the miraculous nature and authority of the revelatory text. The contribution of this research lies in the development of a contemporary tafsir model that bridges tradition and modernity, while paving the way for the development of a more dynamic and responsive Qur'anic interpretation methodology.

Abstract

This study bridges the gap in previous research, which has discussed Abbasid politics from a historical perspective but has not systematically examined their position as hadith narrators. This study contributes new insights into how power influences trust in sanad and the acceptance of narrations. The credibility of hadith narrators is a crucial factor in determining the quality of a hadith, as the acceptance or rejection of information depends on their reliability. In this context, the Abbasid Caliphs as hadith narrators are often debated regarding their credibility. This study aims to analyze the credibility of the Abbasid Caliphs as hadith narrators and their influence on their transmission of hadith. This study uses the naqd al-Hādīs method with descriptive narratives and Foucault's theory of power relations. The results reveal that the credibility of the Abbasid Caliphs as narrators of hadith is majhūl al-ḥāl (unknown status). The integrity of the critics is maintained, preventing a correlation between knowledge and power.

Abstract

Dynastic politics is a phenomenon where political power is inherited within a single family, often resulting in a concentration of power and a disregard for democratic principles, leading to inequality in the distribution of power. This article discusses the influence of a political system dominated by dynasties in the context of modern governance, particularly its impact on public policy and the limitations of social mobility. In the history of Indonesian governance, dynastic politics has occurred in a hereditary manner, with dynastic political strategies being used as tools to secure power by placing family members or relatives in both formal (government) and informal (projects or businesses) positions. As a result, dynastic politics will continue to evolve, generating both support and opposition amid the implementation of a democracy-based government. There is a discussion of hadith regarding the prohibition of granting positions or providing references based on familial relationships, which contradicts the principles of justice and meritocracy. Therefore, this article explores potential solutions that may support policies of transparency, accountability, and equal opportunities for all individuals, aiming to provide an understanding of the impact of dynastic politics and the importance of an inclusive and fair political system.

Abstract

Religious moderation is an important principle in Islamic teachings which is reflected in the teachings of the Qur'an and hadith. Islam was revealed as a religion that brings grace, balance, and justice to the entire world. This article aims to examine the foundations of religious moderation from the perspective of the Qur'an and hadith and its relevance in the context of multicultural and multireligious society. With a thematic approach and normative analysis, this article highlights the importance of tawassuth (middle), tasamuh (tolerance), and i'tidal (fair) attitudes in strengthening social cohesion and maintaining world peace. This research seeks to reveal religious moderation in the Qur'an and the hadith "Theological Foundations and Its Implications for Contemporary Life". The research method in this article is qualitative research with a literature study. Literature research is through literature-based literature research, which is the main source in the form of library data in the form of books, manuscripts, books, and other sources in the form of other documentation related to religious moderation. The results of the study show that religious moderation refers to a fairly important and controversial issue that has been discussed during this decade. Minister of Faith Lukman Hakim Saifuddin is very enthusiastic about facing this problem because he believes that by applying the concept of religious moderation, uproar in society can be overcome, especially the problem of feuds between religious people and between religious people themselves. Radicalism, religious violence and terrorism have always been associated with Islamic gangs, despite the fact that they are a real group. The Quran, which is the holy book, and the Hadith, which is the words of the Prophet Muhammad, give Muslims a guide to life and guidance for everything they face in their daily lives.  The Quran and Hadith have offered religious moderation centuries ago. This means being religious by taking a middle way, maintaining balance, avoiding excess, and not being extreme. Not even within the bounds of religious moderation when dealing with plural citizens, but more broadly and universally. One of the main characteristics of Islamic teachings, which derives from the Qur'an and hadith, is religious moderation. Moderation values such as tawassuth, tasamuh, and i'tidal must be maintained in religious practice and social life to meet the challenges of the complex and diverse modern world. Muslims have the ability to contribute to peace, justice, and humanity both at the local and international levels with moderation.

Abstract

This study explores Muslim-friendly tourism as an implementation of Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah from the perspective of the Qur’an through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The research aims to identify how Islamic principles—particularly the five essential objectives of Sharia (ḥifẓ al-dīn, ḥifẓ al-nafs, ḥifẓ al-‘aql, ḥifẓ al-nasl, and ḥifẓ al-mal)—are integrated within the concept and practice of Muslim-friendly tourism. A systematic review of relevant journal articles published between 2020 and 2025 was conducted using thematic analysis to classify findings according to the Qur’anic and Maqāṣid frameworks. The results show that most studies on Muslim-friendly tourism emphasize economic and managerial aspects, such as market potential, halal certification, and destination branding, while limited attention is given to the Qur’anic and theological foundations. The analysis of Qur’anic verses, particularly those containing the command sīrū fī al-arḍ (“travel through the earth”), reveals that travel in Islam is not merely recreational but also spiritual, educational, and reflective—encouraging the appreciation of Allah’s creation and moral introspection. This study concludes that the concept of Muslim-friendly tourism can serve as a means of realizing the objectives of Sharia by preserving religion, life, intellect, lineage, and wealth, while fostering ethical, spiritual, and sustainable travel practices aligned with Islamic values.
