Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of financial compensation, performance appraisal, and competence on the performance of senior high school teachers in Banda Aceh City. The research was conducted in a senior high school in Banda Aceh City. The population of this study was 30 high school seniors consisting of 19 senior high schools, 6 vocational high schools, 3 state madrasah aliyah, and 2 integrated dayah. This study uses a mixed method. The research data was obtained by distributing questionnaires and interviews. The data is then analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results of the study showed that 1) The results of quantitative calculations, financial compensation and teacher competence jointly affect teacher performance, but performance appraisal does not affect the performance of senior high school teachers in Banda Aceh City. Partially, there is an effect of financial compensation and teacher competence on the performance of high school teachers in Banda Aceh City. However, there is no effect of performance appraisal on the performance of senior high school teachers in Banda Aceh City. 2) Qualitatively, the results of interviews with principals showed financial compensation and teacher competence. Meanwhile, teacher performance appraisal only affects teacher performance if there is feedback and supervision from the principal. According to school principals, other factors that influence teacher performance are internal and external factors, namely the motivation and character of teachers, which are supported by the leadership and work environment.

Abstract

Proper diction relates to the choice of words used in conveying an idea. Diction in speaking becomes a difficulty for English teachers in classroom interactions. Especially for beginner English teachers, some of them are still unfamiliar with choosing the right/good vocabulary for describing and explaining material in teaching or using English to give some instructions. This study aimed at finding out the effect of diction used by the teachers during the interaction in the EFL class. This research applied qualitative research design and applied discourse analysis method specifically conversational analysis on the teachers’ utterances. Respondents who participated in this research were two English teachers and students respectively. The researchers collected the data through observation by recording teachers’ voices and interviews. This research found that the words or terms used by both teachers had an impact on the interaction, feedback and students’ interest in learning English.  Miscommunication, misunderstandings, as well as a few feedbacks occurred in the classroom.  There were a few learning aspects faced by both observed teachers to use proper word choice. They were a source of materials, teaching media and tools, as well as teacher training. All of them constrained those English teachers to employ the proper words during interaction in the classroom. Teachers are expected to be careful in choosing words or terms to establish communication between teachers and students.

Abstract

This study is aimed to develop mathematics learning media inspired by the typical games of the coastal communities of Sumenep Madura Regency. We provide the media with "Thong-Bhitongan" which is defined as a counting tool in Indonesian. This development uses a development design adapted from Thiagarajan, which consists of a definition, design, and development. "Thong-Bhitongan" is a concrete media that students can play with. The validation results of the "Thong-Bhitongan" media were 82.5, and the material validation was 85. Product trials were carried out at three target schools of Kampus Mengajar 4: Duko II Elementary School, Guluk-guluk II Elementary School, and Guluk-guluk IV Elementary School. The results of the product trials showed that the "Thong-Bhitongan" learning media developed was effective in helping to increase students' understanding of numeracy material, as evidenced by the post-test results which were better than the pre-test results and had exceeded the minimum completeness score. In addition, the media "Thong-Bhitongan" also achieved a good response from students. It is expected that the product of this research, namely the mathematics learning media "Thong-Bhitongan" will become an alternative medium in improving students' nomural abilities.

To test the hypothesis, the researcher used data collected through questionnaires with a total of 237 respondents using purposive and convenience techniques sampling and statistical analysis, using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and assisted by the AMOS program. The results of the study reveal: (1) there is a positive and significant effect of social media use on network Ties and shared vision, while the social media use does not have a significant effect on the trust of high school teachers in Bima, (2) there is a positive and significant effect of network Ties and shared vision on knowledge transfer, while trust has no significant effect on knowledge transfer of high school teachers in Bima District (3) there is a positive and significant influence of social media use on knowledge transfer of high school teachers in Bima District. For the mediation test, the researcher used the Sobel test to test the indirect effect. These findings show that the network Ties and shared vision variables are able to mediate between the use of social media and knowledge transfer, while trust cannot mediate between social media use against knowledge transfer.
