Abstract

A Good writing is determined by some things, one of which is its process. This study aimed at finding out the influence of the writing process method and a story based on Adab education on the student’s ability to write an opinion essay. The design of this research is mixed method research. The research population was eight classes of undergraduate students in semester 3 of the English Education Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty in the academic year 2019/2020. The research sample was 37 students that were purposively chosen. The instruments used were a pretest and a posttest. The findings showed that the average posttest score for the experimental class (71.0) was two points higher than the score for the control class (69.0). The results of calculating the difference between the experimental class's posttest and pretest values, a value of 24, were obtained. In contrast, in the control class,  a value of 26 was obtained as the result of calculating the difference between the posttest and pretest values. The difference between the two results was -2. Based on that, the conclusion was that the influence of the writing process method and a story based on Adab's education was insignificant. In other words, the writing process method and a story based on Adab education were similarly good in improving students' competence in writing an opinion essay. The findings suggest the necessity of doing or implementing the writing process and a story based on Adab’s education if students hope to have good English writing particularly an opinion essay.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe the effectiveness of an e-library as a social study (hereafter, IPS) learning resource for elementary school students in improving their literacy skills. When developing learning materials for social studies, Social Studies (IPS) teachers in elementary schools should have a clear goal and direction, including the use of e-library resources that can enhance students' literacy skills. A descriptive qualitative research approach was utilised to examine the efficacy of the e-library as a learning resource for primary school pupils in the field of social sciences, with a specific focus on enhancing their reading abilities. Data was collected through a literature review and document analysis on social studies learning in elementary schools, literacy skills, and e-libraries. In this investigation, up to  40 research articles were used. The findings indicated that the e-library was effective in helping primary school students study social subjects and develop their literacy skills. In order to optimize the potential of the library, the government or schools should: 1) provide relevant learning resources; 2) establish a 24-hour accessible system; 3) employ a creative librarian; and 4) utilize information technology to target students. This will enable students to access and acquire learning content easily. Additionally, the library should create a space for students to express their ideas freely and channel creativity, making library activities more lively and enjoyable.

Abstract

This study examined the impact of incorporating Flipbook Maker as a teaching tool on history learning. The research utilized a quasi-experimental design involving a pretest-posttest control group. Purposive sampling was used to select a sample of 28 students from the eleventh grade. Research data was collected and student learning outcomes were evaluated through a multiple-choice test consisting of 20 items. To compare the experimental group, which received instruction using Flipbook Maker, with the control group, which received traditional teaching methods, the research data was analyzed using a t-paired sample test. The t-test results, with a significance level of 0.001, indicated a significant influence of Flipbook Maker on students' history learning outcomes. The analysis demonstrated that the average post-test scores of students in the experimental group (using Flipbook Maker) were significantly higher than those in the control group (utilizing traditional teaching methods). Consequently, it can be concluded that Flipbook Maker is effective in improving students' history learning outcomes. This research carries important implications for history education in schools, as Flipbook Maker can serve as an effective alternative in teaching, facilitating a better understanding of historical concepts among students. It is recommended that history teachers and educators consider integrating this tool into their curriculum and teaching strategies to enhance the quality of history education at the high school level. By doing so, they can provide students with a more engaging and interactive learning experience, leading to improved learning outcomes in history.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of using the mistake buster technique on grammar mastery for English writing classes. The research approach uses quantitative research through the design of a one-group experimental method. The research subjects were 30 semester III students for the 2022-2023 academic year, STAI Hubbulwathan Duri. Samples were taken randomly with the criteria that students had received English writing skills learning. So, this research was conducted at the English Tadris Study Program, STAI Hubbulwathan Duri. The data collection process uses observation, documents, and tests. Data analysis used paired sample t-test. The results of this study indicate that the mistake-buster technique has a positive influence on the ability to master grammar while learning to write English. This can be seen from the increase in the value achieved by each student or the class average value. Students experience a change in attitude to become more active during learning and can apply their learning experiences to make correct sentences. The results of this study also have implications for teachers' understanding of the importance of understanding learning techniques that are by learning objectives and student learning experiences.

Abstract

This narrative case study aimed to explore EFL teachers' beliefs and practices regarding multilingualism in Indonesia. The data for this study was collected through observations and interviews with three EFL teachers in a public junior high school in Indonesia who were chosen, based on purposive sampling, who have experience in EFL teaching and have graduated from the relevant study program. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis. This study revealed that teachers' beliefs and practices are in line. They used multilingualism in EFL teaching, namely Indonesian, the local language, and English as the language of instruction. They used those languages to make their students easier to understand. Moreover, multi-language is used because not all students have good English, and it also aims to maintain students' indigenous languages. Generally, this study concluded that EFL teachers' beliefs are a factor that influences their classroom language policy, and teachers' attitudes toward multilingualism have an impact on students' language practices. Hopefully, this research can improve the teacher's understanding and provide a reference for relevant future research. Further research could look at more than three EFL teachers and use the other technique for collecting data and analyzing documents from teachers and students to gain a better understanding.
