Abstract

A research has conducted about the microemulsion formulation of purified extract of red spinach leaves (Amaranthus tricolor L.) as an antioxidant supplement with the aim to be able to know the formula to form a microemulsion which meet the physical quality stability and determine antioxidant activity (IC50) of the preparation. Extracts prepared by maceration method using ethanol 96% and then later do the purification using solvent n-hexane and ethyl acetate, after it tested its antioxidant activity. Formula to form a microemulsion purified extract of red spinach leaves clear is to use virgin coconut oil (VCO) by 15%, tween 80 for 40%, 35% glycerin and 10% distilled water. Physical stability test was conducted on the organoleptic test, measuring the diameter of globules, pH test, test and test viscosity centrifugation. Test of antioxidant activity in vitro using DPPH method and using Vitamin C as a positive control. Measurement data were statistically analyzed using paired samples T test. The test results of antioxidant activity microemulsion purified extracts of spinach leaves, red show IC50 values on day 1 was 1.83 ppm and the 28th day amounted to 3.71 ppm. While vitamin C microemulsion shows IC50 values on day 1 of 0.24 ppm and the 28th day of 2.51 ppm. Despite the decreased antioxidant activity, but each of the stocks included in the category of very powerful antioxidants.

Abstract

Lycopene is a class of keratonoid that have been proven has antioxidant activity but has limited solubility in water. So as to boost their solubility, in this study conducted in the form of microemulsion formulations. This study aims to get a tomato lycopene extract microemulsion which is stable and has antioxidant effects. The research was initiated to test the antioxidant power of tomato lycopene extract in vitro against DPPH. Tomato lycopene extract microemulsion is formulated based on the optimization of the composition of the base consisting of the VCO as the oil phase, tween 80 as surfactant and glycerin as cosurfactant. Preparations produced were tested for antioxidant activity and their physical and chemical stability testing which include: organoleptic, viscosity, globule size and pH during 28 days of storage. The results showed that tomato lycopene extract formula microemulsion stable composition of tomato lycopene extract 0.3%, VCO 15%, tween 80% and 35% glycerin. The test results obtained physical stability of the microemulsion formula elected tomato lycopene extract has a distinctive scent of aromatic, orange, thick, globule size of <5 μm, viscosity (600, 33 ± 69.29 to 746 cPs ± 8.32), and pH ( 6.27 ± 0.20 to 6.79 ± 0.10). As very strong antioxidant activity with IC50 value of 29.07 ppm.

Abstract

Cytotoxic test is one method to predict the development of compounds that are toxic to the cell that is an absolute requirement for anticancer drugs. The aim of this study is to isolate flavonoids and determine LC50 value of the activity of the Red Pinang seed extract (Areca vestiaria Giseke). Extracts prepared by maceration method using ethanol 96%. Isolation is done through a range of methods includes partitioning using n-hexane, a preliminary test using the color reagent and KLT, isolation by preparative thin layer chromatography, thin layer chromatography multi eluent, UV-Vis spectrophotometer analysis and cytotoxic test isolates. The results showed that isolates flavonoid seed extract of Red Pinang (Areca vestiaria Giseke) has the medium potential of being a cytotoxic agent with LC50 values of 583.445 ppm.

Abstract

This study aims to inventory and to know the ways of utilization as well as parts of the plants which have been used by people of Kaili Moma Tribe in Kulawi Subdistrict, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi. This research is a descriptive study which used qualitative methods and purposive sampling technique through open-ended interviews to 87 people of Kaili Moma Tribe using questionnaire. The results of this study showed that there were 51 species of plants, classified into 29 familia, used as remedies (traditional medicine) for the treatments of 41 types of disease. The most widely used plants came from family Lamiaceae with percentage of 17%. The parts of plant used by the people included leaves, fruits, stems, tubers, roots, rhizomes, seeds, herbs, flowers and thorns. Part of the plants most frequently used as remedies is leaf with percentage of 49%. Ways of the plants utilization were very diverse, such as boiling; squeezing, and pounding. The people use them in ways of drinking, eating, rubbing, and affixing them to the affected part.

Abstract

Soursop (Annona muricata L.) and gotu kola (Centella asiatica L.Urb) is a plant that can be used as a laxative medicine kidney stones. This is because of the content of bioactive compounds including flavonoids, especially the leaf section. The use of a combination of soursop leaf extract and gotu kola can improve their effectiveness in order to remove calcium kidney stones. Therefore, this study aims to determine the activity and to determine dose combination soursop leaf ethanol extract (SS) and gotu kola leaf (GK) which is effective for dissolving potassium kidney stones. Extracts prepared by maceration method using ethanol 96% then subsequently tested phytochemical screening and thin layer chromatography profiles on each extract. Results chromatogram showed the extract containing flavonoids. Testing the activity of the combination of soursop and gotu kola extract performed using seven treatments, combination 1 (SS 1% + GK 7.5% ), a combination of 2 (SS 0.5% + GK 3.75%), the combination of 3 (SS 0, 25% + GK 1.875%), single soursop leaf extract (1%), single gotu kola extract (7.5%), negative control (aquadest) and positive control (Batugin elixir). Kidney stones are then put as much as 100 mg in each treatment and incubated for 6 hours (37 ℃). Results filtrate then didestruksi and dissolved calcium levels measured using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The results showed the combination soursop leaf ethanol extract and gotu kola leaf extract with a combination of 2 (SS 0.5% + GK 3.75%) is an effective combination of the ability to dissolve calcium kidney stones in vitro.

Abstract

Cocor Bebek (Kalanchoe pinnata L.) is a medicinal plant that has been used as traditional medicine for long period, used to fight fever, but it empirically leaves of Tembelekan (Lantana camara L.) are also generally primarily used to treat fever. Research on the effects of the combination of Cocor Bebek’s leaf extract (Kalanchoe pinnata L.) and the leaf extract of tembelekan (Lantana camara L.) Pers on male guinea pig (Cavia porcellus) is induced peptone 5% at a dose of 150 mg / kg body weight. With the aim to determine the effect of the combination and determine the effects of the most effective as an antipyretic. Extracts prepared by maceration method using ethanol 95%. Marmots were divided into 4 groups. Each guinea pig was induced using peptone 5%. The first group was given Na CMC as a negative control group 2nd given a combination of one dose combinations (50 + 720). Group 3 was given a second dose combination (100 + 720). Group-4 were given a 3-dose combination (150 + 720). Temperature measurement is carried out for 2 hours with a 30 minute interval. Data were analyzed temperature measurements were statistically analyzed using ANOVA (Analisys Of Variance). The research result was addressing, that the combination of extracts can reduce fever. The combination is most effective as an antipyretic is cocor duck leaf extract 50 mg and 720 mg tembelekan leaf extract (50 + 720).

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the demographic and clinical characteristics and profile of drug use in patients with essential hypertension at outpatient installations I Lagaligo General Hospital East Luwu Regency period January-December 2014. The research method is descriptive done retrospectively by collecting secondary data from medical records essential hypertension patients undergoing outpatient treatment at General Hospital I Lagaligo East Luwu Regency period January-December 2014. The number of samples in the study were 145 patients. The dominant demographic characteristics of women that 87 patients (60%), age range 41-60 years (55.86%), hypertension grade 1 (73.78%), a class of drugs most widely used is a calcium antagonist (45.45%), the type of drug amlodipine (44.27%), 100% tablet dosage forms, rules of use 1 to 2 times a day, namely amlodipine monotherapy (63.08%), the combination of two antihypertensive amlodipine-hydrochlorothiazide (38.61%), the combination of three antihypertensive amlodipine-hydrochlorothiazide-Captopril (69.57%). The results obtained in accordance with an algorithm treatment of hypertension according to Joint National Committee (JNC 7).

Abstract

Drug Related Problems (DRPs) are events or circumstances involving drug therapy that actually or potentially interfere with desired health outcomes. DRPs may occur in the treatment of various diseases such as community acquired pneumonia (CAP). This study aims to determine the percentage of DRPs in pediatric inpatients with CAP. This is a descriptive and observational study design with prospective data conducted in November 2015 until February 2016 at Madani Hospital, Central Sulawesi. The results obtained from 28 patients showed that incidences of DRPs categories of inappropriate drug is 1 event (1,7%), inappropriate drug combination 35 events (58,3%), drugs dose too low 18 events (30%), drugs dose too high 6 events (10%), and no indication for drug 0 event (0%).

Abstract

Melamine is not prohibited chemical to mix into food product. Around 2008, Melamine had found in baby milk which was made by China to make high protein level. To see BBPOM Yogyakarta’s performance handling of food which has contaminated of melamine, it is needed evaluation from customer’s satisfaction and affection of monitoring food contaminated melamine’s factors. In addition, it is necessary to know the gap between expectation and society’s perception. The study is descriptive explorative research. The study has done by giving performance questionnaire and the factor that affect to performance of employee at Investigation and Inspection sector in BBPOM Yogyakarta and qualitative analysis has done by interview. Based on the analysis result, personal/human resources, monitored system and infrastructure factors has not significance effect to BBPOM Yogyakarta performance handling contaminated food, because the monitoring has limited for withdrawing and scrapping product. From the interview result is known that there is an effect between personal/human resources, monitored system and infrastructures factors, because it is influenced by theoretical and subjectivity of respondent.

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) contained in salted fish from Banggai Islands Regency. The sampleswere collected by purposive sampling from Tinangkung district, Liang district and South Totikum district. Pb and Cd content was measured using the atomic absorbtion spectrophotometry method. The results showed that layang salted fish from Tinangkung district had Pb content 0,0976 ± 0,0660 mg/kg and Cd content 0,0064 mg/kg. Lencam salted fish from Liang district had Pb content 0,2459 ± 0,0206 mg/kg and Cd content 0,0255 mg/kg. Cakalang salted fish from South Totikum district had Pb content 0,2100 ± 0,0148 mg/kg and Cd content 0,0254 mg/kg. Salt from Liang district had Pb content 0,3250 ± 0,0071 mg/kg and Cd content 0,1075 ± 0,0071 mg/kg. While the value of Pb and Cd in content salt from South Totikum district had 0,2250 ± 0,0071 mg/kg and 0,1025 ± 0,0035 mg/kg. From the result, could be concluded that salted fish and salt from three different places in Banggai Island Regency are still in limit to consume based on standart from Badan Standart Nasional Indonesia (BSNI) that determine 0,3 mg/kg for lead and 0,1 mg/kg for cadmium.
