Abstract

study explored how Bluebird, a leading legacy taxi brand in Indonesia, sustains customer loyalty amidst the rise of digital ride-hailing services. Facing digital disruption, Bluebird’s strategy of blending tradition with innovation provides valuable insights into how established brands can adapt to a rapidly evolving market. a combination of statistical modelling and path analysis grounded in Katz’s Uses and Gratifications Theory, the study distributed structured questionnaires to 251 purposively selected respondents specifically individuals who has used Bluebird taxi services at least three times in the past three months in Jakarta to capture constructs such as sensory and affective experience, emotional attachment, brand satisfaction, and brand love. Statistical modelling via SmartPLS 3.0 and path analysis revealed that while brand experience significantly influences brand loyalty, brand satisfaction does not have a direct effect. Instead, emotional attachment and love mediate this relationship, with through the indicator of sustain commitment, where respondents showed a strong sense of belonging to the brand. These findings highlight that in a highly competitive urban mobility market, functional satisfaction is no longer sufficient; emotional connection is key. Practical strategies such as loyalty programs, driven marketing, and brand storytelling are recommended to enhance customer retention.

Abstract

In West Sumatra, the Minangkabau community has a tradition known as Maota di Lapau (abbreviated as M.d.L), which involves conversational gatherings in coffee shops. However, this tradition is now eroding and being abandoned. The decline in the prestige of M.d.L has reduced the intensity of sharing thoughts and experiences, as well as creative and critical thinking. Furthermore, it has diminished the quality of social interaction and weakened the community's ability to unify its social potential to solve collective problems. This inductive research sought to provide a comprehensive explanation for why M.d.L is becoming less popular and declining in intensity, and to explore its implications for social capital, creativity, and the community's capacity for collaboration, particularly in the economic sphere. The study was conducted in four villages in West Sumatra using a qualitative method and a dual approach (case study and phenomenology). Analysis of the findings revealed that the primary cause is the discontinued use of the traditional communication protocol, Kato Nan Ampek, in daily conversation.

Abstract

Cases of violence against children and women remain a worrying problem, but not all victims are willing to report it for various reasons. This situation has prompted the government to provide services through the Regional Technical Implementation Unit for the Protection of Women and Children. The purpose of this study is to analyse the effectiveness of the communication strategies used by the Regional Technical Implementation Unit for the Protection of Women and Children in Cilegon City in disseminating information about the services it provides. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach with a case study method. The informants consisted of five people based on purposive sampling techniques. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation, followed by data validity checking and data analysis. The results showed that the communication strategies used in disseminating information about services for handling violence against women and children included situation analysis and target determination, selection of communicators, selection of media, and preparation of media to be used as communication channels, and were implemented in various forms of socialisation activities, including psychoeducation activities, socialisation to schools in the form of distributing roll-up banners or seminars, and socialisation about the PATBM (Integrated Child Protection Community) programme at the village and sub-district levels. This strategy has been effective in expanding the dissemination of information about violence response services in the community. The study provides practical recommendations for public relations practitioners and offers directions for further research on communication strategies.

Abstract

The philosophy of Bhuppa' Bhappu' Ghuru Rato is the core of Madurese culture, which emphasises respect for elders, teachers, and leaders as the basis of social hierarchy and communication ethics. Amidst modernisation and the development of digital technology, these traditional values face challenges in adapting to increasingly egalitarian patterns of global communication. This study describes the transformation of power structures in communication and analyses its impact on communication ethics, social relations, cultural identity, and the integration of local values in the modern era. This study uses qualitative methods with an ethnographic approach, through observation, interviews, and documentation of cultural and community leaders in Madura. The analysis is descriptive in order to process, categorise, and interpret data relevant to the research focus. The results show that education, both formal and informal, is a key strategy in maintaining the sustainability of this philosophy. Digital technology also plays a role as a medium for cultural preservation, as long as the narrative remains authentic and contextual. A participatory approach through communities and cultural arts has proven effective in integrating local values into modern communication practices. Therefore, synergy is needed between the government, educational institutions, cultural communities, and media actors to create a digital space that is inclusive of local narratives. This study confirms that the philosophy of Bhuppa' Bhappu' Ghuru Rato can be transformed into a framework for adaptive ethical dialogue, reflecting the cultural resilience of Madura in facing the challenges of globalisation without losing its values.

Abstract

This study investigated the strategic construction of political personal branding on social media within Indonesia’s dynamic political landscape, focusing on how it is manifested and contested through user-generated content about Prabowo Subianto on X (formerly Twitter). This study examined how visual symbols, hashtags, and popular culture references influence public opinion and reveal contrasting narratives that reflect the polarised nature of Indonesia’s digital public sphere. Employing a mixed-methods approach, algorithmic sentiment analysis (Naive Bayes) is combined with qualitative visual-symbolic coding. Findings reveal a dominant negative sentiment coexisting with strong pro-candidate messaging enriched by humour and affectionate visuals. This duality suggests potential audience segmentation and deliberate efforts to humanise the candidate, creating digital echo chambers for loyal supporters despite widespread criticism. The results highlight the strategic use of humour and emotional appeal by campaign teams and supporters to reconstruct public image, drawing on principles of affective engagement and participatory branding. The study provides valuable insights into how political figures and their communication strategies navigate polarised environments, offering key lessons for digital political public relations in an era shaped by emotion, culture, and interaction

Abstract

Social media plays a significant role in influencing travel decisions in today’s digital landscape. This study examines how various aspects of social media specifically content types (videos, images), user feedback (comments), and engagement metrics (likes, shares) impact tourists’ decision-making processes, grounded by the AIDA model. A purposive sample of 200 tourists participated in an online survey via Google Forms across the Philippines Archipelago. Findings revealed that videos were the most influential feature across all decision-making stages: catching attention, generating interest, building desire, and prompting action. In contrast, likes received the lowest influence, although still impactful. The results highlight the significance of video content in travel marketing, suggesting that marketers should prioritise producing creative, authentic, and engaging travel videos to establish trust and effectively guide tourists through their decision-making process. This research underscores the growing value of user-generated video content as a powerful tool in driving tourist engagement and travel behaviour.

Abstract

While Project-Based Learning (PBL) is widely recognised as an effective pedagogical approach in media education, significant gaps remain in understanding its implementation and impact in developing country contexts. Challenges such as resource constraints, industry-academia disconnects, and varying institutional capacities may limit PBL's effectiveness in preparing media broadcasting students for professional careers. This study examined these issues through a longitudinal investigation of PBL implementation at an Indonesian private university's media broadcasting laboratories. Using quantitative research analysis of student performance data across five core courses, the study reveals that PBL significantly enhances practical competencies when properly supported. Key findings show more than 60% of participants achieved top grades, with strong correlations between PBL participation and skill development. The study identifies industry-aligned projects and structured mentorship as critical success factors, while highlighting persistent challenges related to equipment access and time constraints. These results demonstrate PBL's potential to bridge the gap between academic training and industry needs in resource-constrained environments. The findings recommend that strategic investments in laboratory infrastructure, faculty development, and industry partnerships could help overcome implementation barriers and maximise PBL's benefits for media education in developing contexts.

Abstract

Medan City is one of the regions with significant stunting reduction achievements, from 19.9% in 2021 to 5.8% in 2023. This achievement demonstrates the success of various intervention programs. However, the effectiveness of public communication, particularly through digital media, still requires in-depth evaluation to ensure that stunting prevention messages are truly understood and internalised by the target group. This study aims to analyse digital communication strategies for public stunting prevention campaigns in Medan City, Sumatra, Indonesia. The research method used is a mixed method with quantitative analysis through SEM-PLS and qualitative analysis through content analysis of digital campaigns. The results show that digital communication through social media can expand the reach of information, enhance interactivity, and strengthen public awareness of the importance of stunting prevention. However, the effectiveness of messages is still influenced by digital literacy, content relevance, and active audience involvement in the communication process.

Abstract

This study analysed the role of WhatsApp in mobilising environmental activist communities in the Ciputat Subdistrict, South Tangerang. WhatsApp has become the primary communication platform for disseminating information, coordinating activities, and fostering community engagement. This research employs a qualitative approach using netnography. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 13 informants, comprising community leaders, members, and government representatives, as well as participant observation within the community’s WhatsApp group over a three-month period, from May to July 2024. The findings indicate that WhatsApp is effective for the rapid dissemination of critical information, such as environmental clean-up schedules, illegal dumping alerts, policy updates, and educational materials on waste management. WhatsApp also facilitates open discussions by providing a space for members to share opinions, personal experiences, and collaboratively develop action plans through group chats, multimedia sharing, and polls. However, several challenges were identified, including information overload, limited responsiveness from some members, constraints in facilitating in-depth discussions, and technical barriers such as unstable internet connectivity. Despite these obstacles, WhatsApp plays a significant role in strengthening social bonds among community members and fostering collaboration with local government authorities. This study concludes that WhatsApp can serve as an effective tool to support environmental movements at both local and national levels. Its effectiveness could be further enhanced by integrating other communication platforms to meet their existing limitations.

Abstract

The identity of Javanese women has long reflected constructions by patriarchal cultural narratives, with the concept of Kanca Wingking confining them to domestic roles and subordinating them to men. This study investigates how video installation art represents and deconstructs that discourse. The research examines how visual, auditory, and interactive elements challenge the gendered symbolic order by employing a qualitative approach that integrates Julia Kristeva's semiotic theory and Foucauldian discourse analysis. The researcher collected data through a literature review and visual documentation of Javanese cultural representations. The findings demonstrate that video installation art not only symbolises patriarchal control, through elements such as the puppeteer's voice and the manipulation of women's expressions, but also subverts it by turning the audience into active participants in exposing and questioning those norms. From a Foucauldian perspective, the work reveals how domestic spaces and bodily representation function as instruments of discipline and surveillance, yet simultaneously open discursive space for agency and resistance. The study concludes that video installation art serves as both an expressive and political medium, offering critical interventions into the cultural construction of Javanese womanhood.
