Abstract

This study explores the diffusion of Assistive Technology (AT) innovations in fostering inclusive academic communication for students with disabilities at Universitas PGRI Argopuro Jember. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis. The findings demonstrate that AT, such as screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, TalkBack) and locally developed applications (SPETRI-DOC MY EARS, PIVE-MY EYES, CEMA, and SPETRIC-Forum Sahabat Tuli), significantly enhance accessibility, independence, and participation among students with visual, hearing, and physical impairments. Guided by Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovations theory, the adoption process was found to follow the stages of innovators, early adopters, early majority, late majority, and laggards. Critical success factors include institutional policy support, educator competencies, student volunteers as mediators, and the contextual relevance of locally tailored applications. Nevertheless, challenges remain, particularly limited funding, insufficient training, and technical accuracy issues in speech-to-text applications. Overall, the study highlights that successful AT diffusion is determined not solely by technological availability but also by the readiness of institutional ecosystems, inclusive campus culture, and sustainable adaptive policies that collectively promote equity in higher education.

Abstract

This research explores the needs and obstacles of schools in adopting a deep learning-based adaptive evaluation model. The research focuses on understanding infrastructure readiness, teachers' digital literacy, and the perception of principals, teachers, and curriculum developers towards the artificial intelligence-based evaluation system. The research method used is an exploratory qualitative approach with a multi-case study design. The study subjects included five secondary schools in Ternate City with different characteristics (public-private status and geographical context). Participants consisted of school principals, teachers, information technology staff, and curriculum developers. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), field observations, and document analysis. Data analysis was carried out with a thematic model through the stages of data reduction, presentation, and verification by triangulating sources and methods to maintain the validity of the findings. The study results show that most schools are still in the early stages of integrating learning technologies. The main obstacles found include the limitations of digital infrastructure (computers and internet networks), low technological literacy of teachers, resistance to change, and the absence of clear regulations on the use of AI in educational evaluation. On the other hand, schools identify three main needs to support adopting adaptive evaluation: providing adequate digital infrastructure, continuous technopedagogical training, and evaluation platforms that are simple and appropriate to the school context.

Abstract

This article examines the impact of globalization on multicultural education and local wisdom in the border areas of Kalimantan. Globalization has brought significant changes to cultural values, potentially eroding local cultural identities, particularly among younger generations. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, this study systematically collected and analyzed 85 journal articles published between 2015 and 2024 from databases such as Google Scholar and Crossref, using keywords related to globalization, multicultural education, local wisdom, socio-cultural learning, and border areas. Data were analyzed through thematic synthesis to identify recurring patterns and conceptual linkages. The findings reveal that multicultural education serves as a strategic approach to preserving cultural identity and fostering inclusive, tolerant student character. At the same time, local wisdom reinforces the internalization of noble values—such as gotong royong (cooperation), respect, and patriotism. Furthermore, effective implementation requires synergy between educational institutions, local governments, and communities through inclusive curriculum development, teacher capacity building, and community-based learning initiatives. In conclusion, this study makes a significant contribution both theoretically and practically by proposing a conceptual model and implementing strategies for integrating socio-cultural learning into multicultural education. It highlights the importance of strengthening cultural resilience in border regions through sustainable, context-based educational transformation in response to globalization.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools, as Islamic educational institutions, have a strategic role in shaping the character of caring for the environment through the integration of Islamic values in daily life. One approach that can be applied is to strengthen Green Islamic values to realize the concept of Eco-Pesantren. The Tahfidzul Qur'an Islamic Boarding School of SMA IT Ibnu Abbas Klaten has the potential to develop this concept; however, not all aspects of environmental management are optimal, particularly in waste management, the internalization of ecotheological attitudes, and the active involvement of students. This study aims to: (1) Describe the actual condition of environmental management, especially waste management, at the Tahfidzul Qur'an Islamic Boarding School of SMA IT Ibnu Abbas Klaten, (2) Analyze the understanding and attitude of students towards Green Islamic values, and (3) Formulate a strategy to strengthen Green Islamic values towards Eco-Pesantren. This study employs a mixed-methods approach, incorporating in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation methods. The analysis is conducted through a SWOT approach, which combines internal and external factors, as well as supporting theories such as Islamic Ecotheology, Environmental Literacy, and the Theory of Planned Behavior. The results of the study showed that the survey (n=126) yielded an average score of 4.3 (86.6%), indicating that students already possess a good theological understanding of the importance of protecting the environment as a form of servitude to Allah and as a responsibility of caliphs.

Abstract

This study examines the educational media used by the Prophet Muhammad within the framework of modern educational theory and its relevance for contemporary learning practices. This research aims to identify the types of media applied by the Prophet, analyze their alignment with current instructional concepts, and highlight their potential contribution to the development of education grounded in Islamic values. This research employs a library-based qualitative approach, with data validity ensured through credibility and dependability techniques, and content analysis used to interpret the collected data. The findings reveal that the Prophet Muhammad utilized a range of instructional media, including human-based media (gestures, physical demonstration, and role modeling), visual media (natural phenomena such as the sun, moon, trees, and rainfall), and audio media. These forms of media, although simple, effectively supported learning and reflect pedagogical principles remarkably consistent with modern instructional frameworks. The study concludes that the Prophet’s pedagogical practices offer a foundational model that predates modern theory and provides valuable insights for enhancing contemporary instructional media design. The novelty of this research lies in its systematic comparison between prophetic media practices and current educational theory, demonstrating their continued relevance. Practically, the study encourages educators and institutions to adopt multimodal, contextual, and learner-centered media approaches inspired by prophetic teaching strategies to improve instructional effectiveness today.

Abstract

Elementary schools in Jakarta face gaps in science learning resources, resulting in uneven and often theoretical practical experiences for students. Virtual laboratories offer a pathway toward equity, yet poorly structured designs can trigger cognitive overload and undermine learning. This study examines how a virtual lab optimized with cognitive load theory—the Cognitive Load–Optimized Virtual Lab (CLOVL)—influences fifth graders’ conceptual understanding of heat transfer in six elementary schools (three central and three suburban) in Jakarta. Using an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design, we involved 120 students and 12 science teachers. The experimental group used CLOVL, which incorporated five-minute segments, pre-training of key vocabulary, narrative–visual modalities, and personalization through culturally Indonesian avatars. The control group used a conventional virtual lab. Quantitative data consisted of pre- and post-tests, an adapted cognitive load scale, and eye-tracking for a sub-sample (n = 40). Qualitative data were gathered from teacher interviews, classroom observations, and student focus groups. Results indicated higher conceptual understanding in the CLOVL group (normalized gain ⟨g⟩ = 0.52) compared to the control group (⟨g⟩ = 0.23), with a large standardized effect size (Hedges’ g ≈ 1.20), particularly in suburban schools, where gains were approximately 45% greater than in central schools. Integrative analyses showed shorter fixation durations and a higher proportion of gaze directed toward relevant areas. These findings support the application of cognitive load principles and underscore the role of cultural relevance in virtual lab design for urban Indonesian settings, while highlighting the theoretical, practical, and policy implications for further research.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the planning, implementation, evaluation, and challenges of parenting management in strengthening early childhood spirituality at Raudhatul Athfal institutions in Indramayu. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews with teachers and parents, observation of activities, and document analysis of academic programs. The findings show that parenting programs were systematically planned at the beginning of the academic year through work meetings involving school leaders, teachers, committees, and parents. Programs were implemented in two main forms: seminars addressing child development and spirituality, and joint activities such as outing classes, cooking classes, and manasik haji training that encouraged parent–child interaction. Evaluation was carried out during and after the activities through discussions, questionnaires, and internal meetings, providing feedback for program improvement. Despite these efforts, challenges remained, including limited parental attendance, inadequate facilities, and weak collaboration between schools and families. The results indicate that structured parenting management strengthens parents’ understanding and participation in fostering children’s spiritual development. This research concludes that effective collaboration between schools and parents through managed parenting programs plays a vital role in building children’s spiritual foundations, providing valuable insights for educators and policymakers in early childhood education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students’ decision-making processes in solving open mathematical problems based on refractive thinking. The research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. The participants were undergraduate students of the Mathematics Education Study Program at the State University of Malang, selected purposively based on decision-making style, domicile, and understanding of the problem context. Research instruments included validated open-ended problem sets based on graph theory and semi-structured interview guides. Data were collected through problem-solving tasks and in-depth interviews, and then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that students experienced five stages of reflective thinking—perplexity, investigation, construction, evaluation, and decision—throughout the decision-making process. Students with a rational style demonstrated more systematic and consistent reasoning, while intuitive, dependent, and avoidant students tended to perform incomplete evaluations. These results highlight that refractive thinking plays a crucial role in forming logical and adaptive decisions. The study implies that open-ended, context-based mathematics learning can effectively enhance students’ higher-order thinking through reflective and evaluative reasoning. Future research should explore the development of instructional models and digital-based learning environments that systematically foster reflective thinking and decision-making skills across diverse cognitive styles and educational levels.

Abstract

Accreditation is a crucial indicator for evaluating the quality of early childhood education (ECE) institutions. A decline in accreditation status reflects challenges in school management. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the declining accreditation of kindergartens in Magelang Regency through a SWOT analysis. The research employed a qualitative approach using observations, interviews, and primary data collected from teachers and principals of 10 kindergartens that experienced a decrease in accreditation, as well as secondary data from assessors and the local education office. The findings reveal that the main strength lies in the collaboration among teachers, principals, students, and parents in supporting school activities. The major weaknesses include teachers’ limited skills in information technology, inadequate documentation of learning activities, and insufficient mastery of learning concepts. Opportunities arise from government support and parental involvement, while threats stem from competition with newly established schools and parents’ low awareness of the importance of early childhood education. In conclusion, weaknesses and threats are more dominant in contributing to the decline in accreditation scores. Therefore, improving teachers’ competencies through training, strengthening parental engagement, and optimizing government support are crucial strategies to enhance the quality of ECE institutions.

Abstract

This article discusses the role of the Dayah education model in Aceh in developing students' religious and social character, and its relevance as an educational institution grounded in Islamic values amid modernization. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive case study approach to explore in depth the role of Dayah education in character formation. Data was obtained from primary sources (in-depth interviews with teungku, students, and Dayah managers) and secondary sources (curriculum documents, diaries, and kitab kuning). Data collection techniques include participatory observation of learning activities, semi-structured interviews, and documentation studies. The data were analyzed thematically through coding, pattern identification, and interpretation to uncover the values of character education and Dayah adaptation strategies in the modern era. Triangulation of sources and methods is carried out to ensure the validity of the data. The study's findings show that the Dayah functions not only as a center for religious learning but also as a fortress in maintaining the Islamic identity and local culture of the Acehnese people. This research contributes to the literature on character-based Islamic education. It shows that Dayah has the potential to address the challenges of globalization by integrating modern practical skills. Dayah can serve as a relevant and sustainable model of education that maintains tradition while meeting the needs of the times.
