Abstract

Arabic text reading is one of the subjects taught in the Mahad Huda Islami (MHI) Islamic boarding school, Bogor-Indonesia. Every student must be skilled in reading Arabic texts one of which is cognitive ability to read the contents of the reading. However, the method used is still traditional in which learning is only focused on the teacher's direction. This research aims to improve the students' ability to synthesize and evaluate an Arabic text. As a student of pesantren or Islamic Studies Programs, they must be able to understand the contents of the Arabic language text, one of which is the ability to synthesize and evaluate a text. In this study, the researchers conducted classroom action research to apply the reciprocal method in reading learning. The finding reveals that students' reading Arabic skills in synthesizing and evaluating aspects experienced a significant increase. The average value in the pre-cycle was 57.1 then it rose to 68.7 in the first cycle. The average value increases in the second cycle, with 85.6. This proves that the right method in reading learning can help students improve their reading skills, one of which is the ability to synthesize and evaluate the contents of the reading.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to find deep information about cultural values contained in al-Kitab fi Ta‘allum al-‘Arabiyyah and al-‘Arabiyyah bayna Yadaik  related to women and marriage. This study used a qualitative approach with the content analysis method by Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis which is limited to the linguistic aspect. The text describes the problems faced by women regarding the culture of marriage and reveals cultural values related to the role of women in society and their position in marriage. The result of this study confirmed that al-Kitab fi Ta'allum al-'Arabiyyah and al-'Arabiyyah bayna Yadaik represent women and their position in marriage and society with a multi-perspective way.  This study is important to provide critical thinking about women's issues and marriage in Arabic language teaching. Furthermore, the student and teacher will have an awareness and understanding of cultural differences to increase their ability to communicate with Arab society.

Abstract

Manuscript Wa'asyiruhunna bil Ma'ruf contains advices to husband and wife in a household. This advices manuscript has a Nadhom form with an Arabic format of poem. The uniqueness of this manuscript is that it contains a gender construction in dividing the role of husband and wife in Islamic view at the year 1956, the time when this manuscript had been written. This can be a solution for patriarchal culture's view that tends to have a subordinate and oppressive attitude towards women. One impact from this attitude is the emergence of feminisms and the issue of gender equity. This manuscript will indirectly reveal some views on feminisms, whether the gender construction described is considered fair or not. The scope of gender construction discussed in this manuscript is departing from the bond of husband and wife in the household. Through qualitative, descriptive and analytical research method for this text, it is hoped that an Islamic concept of gender equity will be formed, an understanding of women's rights can be a consideration in the formation of a happy and harmonious family and his relation to feminisms.
