Abstract

The semantics of prepositions have special connotations according to the verb followed. It is known that prepositions can reverse the meaning of the verb to the other. The verb becomes more than one meaning because of the different connotation of the preposition by the verb. This research aims to study the semantics of verbs related to prepositions and to highlight the eloquence of the Holy Quran in the diversity of its infringement of the single verb in various prepositions through the study of Alusi interpretation. The method used is a stylistic approach, where researcher collected some verbs related to preposition i. e. adzina-a>mana-kharaja-h}amala-fa'ala, then analyzed objectively with the extrapolation of the aesthetics of their connotations and suggestions and compare Alusi's views in his interpretation with former and modern scholars' interpretations. The result showed that Alusi had both same and different views with former and modern scholars regarding the effect of preposition to the verbs' meaning.

Abstract

Arabic language, in its sociological context is divided into two varieties: fusha and ‘amiyya. Arabic fusha is the official language and perceived as the language of Islam. In contrast to the fusha, ‘amiyya is the language used by the Arab people in their daily conversations. However, this ‘amiyya is considered as inferior. The method used in this study was qualitative that stressed the interaction between language and its sociological context. The method assumed that social and political events affected language use in a particular society. The paper tries to re-popularize the two terms used by Ferguson that are "high variety" (H) and "low variety” (L) culture in analyzing the two languages varieties. Besides, the paper explores the tension of the two languages through contemporary social and political events taking place in the Arab World. The Arabic fusha is perceived as a representation of "H” culture because it is a language used in religious literature and official writings, while the ‘amiyya referred to as a representation of "L” variety culture because it is used only as a medium of regular communication.

Abstract

This research aimed to make or produce reading skills test tool using Kahoot platform. This was a "research and development" model using the 4D model (defines, designs, develops, determinates), yet this research was only up to the developing stage. The result of the development in this research is that the researcher developed the reading skills test questions using the Kahoot platform. These questions are written on the platform, then a picture is inserted in the question, as well as the answer choices and the correct answer. The picture helps students to understand the commands of the questions and the researcher used one type of question, the quiz, which is a question by providing answer choices from A to D. The answer choices in this problem are in the form of triangles, squares, circles and squares that have been rotated.  The students used the smart phone.  In this online test, the educator determined the time to answer the question.

Abstract

This study discusses the general description of the textbook and then the description of the level of readability based on the readability formula and the reader's response. The method used is the descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The general description of the textbook based on the results of studies of the profile and anatomical structure is very good. Even though there is some lack in its anatomical structure, this is very reasonable considering the textbooks are presented as needed. The level of readability based on the Fog Index theory shows that textbooks are classified as very easy, while based on the reader's response through the Cloze Test the textbook is at the instructional level. This the researcher can judge that the book is suitable for use in learning. In practice the teacher's role is still needed in modifying the presentation of the material also requires the guidance of the teacher in the learning process.

Abstract

This paper discusses the moral messages implied in the Imam Ali's poems. As stated by some experts, poetry is a set of signs that need to be sought for its meaning and significance. This set of signs is mostly difficult to be realized directly by ordinary people. In consequence, Imam Ali's poems need to be explored by semiotic analysis so that the meanings implied in these poems can be elaborated in detail, and hopefully, it can be well understood by the public. The method used is descriptive-analytical framework that emphasizes systematic interpretation from of the individual point of view or population being studied to generate new concepts. Based on the result, it is found that Imam Ali's poems imply many valuable and important moral messages that were in line with Islamic teachings and they are very important to be known, studied, and used as the guidelines in everyday life. The moral messages implied in these poems they are about the primacy of seeking knowledge and science, the primacy of reasoning, the primacy of silence, keeping away from greedy, and patient with all kinds of insult.

There are a significant number of lexical borrowings from Arabic language to Indonesian language. Among of them are the words jahanam and hijrah. These words are diachronically can be traced and found in literatures and religious texts. This paper seeks to scrutinize the semantic change of jahanam and hijrah. This paper analyses jahanam and hijrah as they are used in both old manuscripts and modern texts. To see their semantic change behaviour, collocation and concordance of their contexts were analysed. The manuscripts employed as the source of research data were taken from the Malay Concordance Project (MCP) which comprises of 165 classical Malay literatures containing some Islamic texts, Corpora Collection Leipzig University, and WebCorp Live Birmingham City University. Using the corpus linguistics method, this research manages to demonstrate how words change semantically through time.
