Abstract

Abstract Tuberculosis (TB) is a global public health problem, the World Health Organization (WHO) stated when it occurred around 7-8 million TB cases with 1.3-1.6 million deaths each year (WHO, 2012). TB is a specific multi-systemic infection, which can cause diverse clinical manifestations in each organ system, so, the clinical presentation of this disease is also quite diverse. Hematologic findings in TB are not uncommon and usually occur due to non-immunological factors. Hematological disorders in the form of anemia, leukocytosis, neutrophilia, lymphopenia, lymphocytosis and increased blood slope rate (LED), thrombocytosis and thrombocytopenia. On blood tests, when TB starts to become active there is a slight leukocytosis with a slightly abnormal type of count. Anemia is reported in 16-94% of patients with pulmonary TB. One's anemia status can be assessed one of them through examination of hemoglobin. The purpose of this study was to analyze the levels of hemoglobin and types of leukocytes in pulmonary TB patients in Surabaya. This examination uses an automatic analyzer with the working principle of SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate). Samples of the blood of pulmonary TB patients in several hospitals in Surabaya .. From 30 samples obtained an average hemoglobin level of 11.5 gr / dl, as many as 10 (33.4%) samples whose levels were within normal limits and 20 (66.6%) sample levels were below normal values. Examination of leukocyte count showed that there were 8 samples (26.6%) of normal neutrophil cells, 22 samples (73.4%) abnormal, 5 lymphocytes of normal cells (16.6%), 25 samples (83% abnormal), abnormal 25 samples (83%) , 4%), normal monocyte cells were 17 samples (56.6%) and abnormal were 13 samples (43.4%).  Keywords: haemoglobine, leukosit type, TB patients

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by not produced insulin or disruption of insulin action. Diabetes mellitus was reported correlated with TCF7L2 gene mutation. This study aimed to analyze the TCF7L2 gene in families with type 2 diabetes. 5 samples were used in this study, the methods flow through DNA Isolation, PCR, and sequencing. Samples were amplified by the PCR technique using primers that were designed to detect the TCF7L2 gene, (F: 5'-GGCTTGATTGTTGATTATGGGC3' and R:5 'TCTGGCACTCAGAGAGT 3'). The amplification and sequencing resulted in 368 bp (located at 103631-103972 bp). We found a transition mutation at C103950T. The polymorphisms found may characteristic in this population because they are not found in other sequences. Keywords : Diabetes mellitus, TCF7L2 gene, mutation

Abstract

Abstract   Tea is a beverage widely consumed by all levels of society as in addition to economic and easy to get, tea is also deemed to provide health benefits. One of the compounds that plays a role as antioxidant and antimicrobial in the tea for body health is tannin. The size of tannin content received by body depends on the way of processing tea before drinking. The higher the infusion temperature of tea infusion, it will make the content of tannin in the drinks is increasing.   So the statement of problem in this research is whether there is any effect of infusion temperature on tannin content in tea infusion. This research aims to find out the effect of infusion temperature on tannin content in tea infusion.   The type is experimental research. The sample is infused tea mostly consumed by people which is sold in market of Pacar Keling Surabaya. Total of samples used in this research is 40 grams of infused tea packages divided into two (2) treatments with 8 repetitions in each treatment. The variables are independent variable namely infusion temperature while the dependent variable is tannin content.   From the examination of tannin content based on infusion temperature, it is known that the average of tannin content with infusion temperature of 700C and 1000C is 42.84% and 43.41% in a gram unit or 100 grams of infused water. The result of paired t test shows there is no effect of infusion temperature on tannin content in infusion tea with significant value more than 0.05 or 5%. Possible factor of no influence of temperature on tannin content is the length of infusion used which shall be not too long around 3-5 minutes. Password: Tea, Infusion Temperature, Tannin

Abstract

Complete blood count (CBC) is one of the laboratory tests most often influenced by doctors. The use of a hematology analyzer offers a wider range of probe parameters. The pre-analytic stage accounts for 70% of errors, one of which is the delay of the examination. Changes in report results were reported due to changes in blood cell morphology due to EDTA additives and room temperature. The aim of this research is the disturbance of stability of the results of examination of various CBC parameters in blood samples that are left at room temperature for 24 hours using a hematology analyzer. This experimental laboratory research was conducted at the Pramita Jemur Andayani Clinical Laboratory. Blood samples were obtained from volunteers, stored at room temperature and subjected to immediate examination (control) and after a delay of 6, 12 and 24 hours (treatment). A total of 30 respondents, consisting of 8 men and 22 women. The mean age of the respondents was 22 ± 1 year. There was no difference in the results of the examination (p-value > 0.05) in the RBC, Hct MCV, MCHC, PLT and PDW. The results of the examination (p-value < 0.05) were found on Hgb, MCH, RDW, WBC, NEU, IG, MONO, EO, BASO, LYM, PLT and PDW. Delayed CBC examinations using the CELL-DYN Ruby hematology analyzer directly gave different results on several parameters ranging from 6 hours delay of examination.

Abstract

Farmers in Indonesia are very dependent on pesticides to protect their crops from pests. Farmers are one of the subjects who are susceptible to pesticides and can cause disease due to pesticide accumulation. One of the disease that can arise due to exposure to pesticides is liver damage. This study wanted to determine the effect of pesticide exposure on liver damage seen from AST and ALT enzyme levels using farmer respondents in the Mojokerto area of 25 respondents. From the results of the study it was found that AST levels were influenced by age (P = 0.017), length of work (P = 0.035), and PPE usage (P = 0.044), while age, work period, length of work and usage of PPE did not significantly influence to ALT levels. It can be concluded that age, length of work and use of PPE affect AST levels. Therefore, to prevent the occurrence of pesticide poisoning, farmers must obey the rules on the use of pesticides such as using PPE regularly and always consuming healthy food.
