Abstract

Vaname shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), one of the leading commodities in the fisheries sector in Pangkep district. Vaname shrimp cultivation is done traditionally and intensively. Vannamei shrimp production and productivity fluctuated. Production inputs influence these fluctuations. This research is to analyse the level of production and the factors that affect the productivity of vaname shrimp farming in Pangkep district. Determining of the respondent is this research is done by purposive. The method is descriptive analysis and Cobb-Douglas production function or double log regression. The study research shows that the average production of Vaname shrimp farming in Pangkep district was 3,553.06 kg/cycle, productivity was 1,724.96 kg/ha/cycle with a middle land area of 1.58 ha. Productivity of Vaname shrimp positive influenced by variable of land area, seeds, fertilizer of urea, fertilizer of phonska, feed and labour.

Abstract

The underutilization of oil palm midrib and fruit fiber, which are abundant in oil palm plantations and the manufacturing field, encourages them to be converted into more valuable products. The goals of this experiment were to create planting media out of oil palm midrib and fiber, as well as to find the best compost formulation of oil palm midrib (MR) and fiber (FF) for seedlings in prenursery. The treatments were arranged in a non-factorial completed randomized design, with 15 treatments. The treatments are  : P0 (100% top soil), P1 (50% MR + 50% CW + Activator 1), P2 (50% MR + 50% CW + Activator II), P3 (50% MR + 50% CW + POME); P4 (100% MR + Activator II); P5 (100% MR + LCPKS), M1 (50% FF : 50% CW + Activator 1); M2 (50%  FF : 50% CW + Activator II); M3 (50%  FF : 50% CW + POME); M4 (100%  FF + Activator II); M5 (100%  FF + POME), PM1 (50% MR-FF + 50% CW + Activator I); PM2 (MR-FF + 50% CW + POME); PM4 (100% MR-FF + Activator II); PM5 (100% MR-FF + POME). The results showed that oil palm midrib and fiber composting media significantly affected morphological responses of oil palm seed growth (plant height, stem diameter and leaf area seedlings), and physiological responses of oil palm seed growth (biomass and stomata conductance). These results could be promoted as a new challenge to formulating the lignocellulose-based planting media.

Abstract

This research aims to obtain quality liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) by using cattle urine and noni-fruit waste as raw materials for LOF at optimal fermentation times. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatment levels and 3 replications with sampling times based on different time variations, namely 7 days, 14 days, 21 days, and 28 days. This research shows that treatments with different fermentation times did not significantly affect the quality of liquid organic fertilizer, especially the Nitrogen (N) and Phosphorus (P) content. However, there was a tendency to increase the N and P content. The highest average N content was in the Fermentation treatment. For 3 weeks, namely 1.34%, and the highest average P content in the Fermentation treatment for 4 weeks, namely 0.44%. Meanwhile, the average potassium (K) content significantly differed in the 4-week fermentation treatment, namely 0.43%. Overall, the best N, P, and K content for all observed parameters was POC fermentation for 4 weeks (fermentation day 28).

Abstract

Coastal land is identical to marginal land, namely having a low soil fertility level. Liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) made from leachate can be used to increase the availability of nutrients in the soil. This study focuses on increasing the growth and yield of cayenne pepper plants on marginal land using various doses of liquid organik fertilizer made from leachate. This study was conducted from May to September 2023. The treatment was the provision of LOF consisting of 4, namely without LOF, 20%, 40%, and 60%. The results of the study showed that the liquid organic fertilizer treatment was able to increase nutrients in the soil. Treatment without liquid organic fertilizer and 60% liquid organik fertilizer significantly affected plant height. Meanwhile, the treatment without liquid organic fertilizer and 20% liquid organic fertilizer was significant for stem diameter, number of fruits, and fruit weight of cayenne pepper plants. The 20% liquid organik fertilizer treatment is recommended to increase the growth and yield of cayenne pepper plants.

Abstract

The existence of great potential is not supported by data and information regarding octopus catches and management. Catches in public waters are dynamic because they are influenced by various factors, especially season and rainfall. This research aims to determine the octopus catches on Langkai and Lanjukang Islands and how the season influences the octopus catches. The method used is the direct survey method, through interviews and distributing questionnaires to fishermen and collectors, with sample determination using the purposeful sampling method. Meanwhile, rainfall data was obtained from the Makassar City BMKG station. Catch data were analyzed using the SPSS t-test, while correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between rainfall and catch. The research results show that the production of octopus catches on Langkai and Lanjukang Islands during the year, from October 2021 to September 2022, fluctuates. For catches based on season, in the rainy season, it is 8,428 kg, while in the dry season, it is 4,271 kg. The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant difference in octopus catch production in the rainy season and the dry season (p = 0.01). The correlation analysis of rainfall and catch results shows a reasonably strong correlation (0.55).

Abstract

Sidrap Regency is a rice production center in South Sulawesi. The abundant rice production impacts the increase in the rice milling industry and the community's economic growth. Government policy aims to protect farmers by maintaining high rice prices, but on the other hand, it must protect farmers by maintaining high rice prices. On the other hand, it must protect consumers by lowering rice prices. Entrepreneurial knowledge is an important variable in studying its influence on business success. This study aims to describe the entrepreneurial knowledge of rice milling managers in Sidrap Regency, describe the level of success of rice milling businesses, and analyze the effect of entrepreneurial knowledge on the success of rice milling businesses. The survey was conducted using the saturated sampling method on 32 rice milling business units. Quantitative descriptive and multiple regression analyses were used to test the research hypothesis. The results showed that entrepreneurial knowledge scored 1,065, meaning that rice milling business managers have knowledge of business, roles, responsibilities, personality, self-ability, management, and organization. In addition, the level of success of rice milling businesses scored 403, including the flourishing category. It showed increased sales volume, business profits, and labor utilization. The entrepreneurial knowledge variable also has a significant and positive influence on the success of the rice milling business.

Abstract

The integration system for Peranakan Ettawa (PE) goat livestock and pepper plants is one model for developing PE goat cultivation to increase agricultural businesses' efficiency and productivity. The research aims to determine the description of breeder characteristics in implementing the integration of PE goats and pepper plants, grazing capacity, and morphometric measurements on the bodies of PE goats in Bengkayang Regency. The research was conducted in the Selebar sub-district of Bengkayang Regency using survey and interview methods. The breeders were determined purposively using the criteria that the livestock group would still run an integrated PE goat farming business with pepper plants. Analyze breeder characteristics and morphometric data descriptively to determine the relationship between the grazing capacity of PE-integrated goats with pepper plants and livestock units (ST) calculated using linear regression. The research results describe PE goat breeders who are integrated with pepper plants based on age at the productive age of 41-50 years and experience in raising PE goats for 11-20 years. The grazing capacity of PE goat breeders is 32.71 Kg with an R2 of 94.93%. The morphometry of male and female PE goats aged around two integrated with pepper plants in Selebar District is not much different from SNI 7352.1, so it is still good for improving their performance.

Abstract

Based on the results of the Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey (INSS), the prevalence of stunting in West Papua was recorded at 26,02% in the previous year, increasing to 30.00% in 2022. Currently, most children pay less attention to the food type and more often consume unhealthy snacks. This research aims to develop the product of yellowfin tuna fish sticks to meet the nutritional balance of children and prevent stunting. The treatment in this research was adding yellowfin tuna sih meal with the formulation of wheat flour, tapioca flour, and fish flour, namely 100 g: 100 g: 75 g, which was used in making stick products. Testing of yellowfin tuna fish sticks includes hedonic and nutritional content tests. Based on the results of the hedonic test, which includes the parameters of appearance, smell, taste, and texture, yellowfin tuna fish sticks obtained a score that meets SNI standards, namely 7 (seven) for each criterion. Testing the nutritional content shows that yellowfin tuna sih sticks have a water content of 5,11%, protein of 24,11%, fat of 26,28%, fiber of 0,65%, ash of 3,91%, and carbohydrates of 39,91%, according to product specifications.

Abstract

Climate change is a natural phenomenon that poses a risk of vulnerability in the sustainability of seaweed cultivation because it can reduce production and income. Therefore, a sustainability strategy is needed, as well as the role of social capital, which is the most important element in carrying out cultivation because it is a means to build communication and cooperation in overcoming obstacles from climate change. Social capital is an element that supports internal and external factors. The study's objectives are: (1). The role of social capital in the sustainability of seaweed cultivation (2)—the existence of a sustainability strategy in dealing with climate change. Therefore, the study was conducted by taking the location of the seaweed center in South Sulawesi in Laikang Village, Manggarabombang District, Takalar Regency, by taking 20 informants from the seaweed farming community, extension workers, village government, and the Fisheries and Marine Service. It was done by conducting observation actions and in-depth interviews with the FGD (forum discussion group) mechanism and documentation. Data analysis was carried out descriptively and qualitatively using a Likert scale. The sustainability strategy was compiled with a SWOT analysis by including internal and external factors in the seaweed business involving the farming community and supporting institutions. The study results showed that social capital was built to improve communication and strengthen networks (bonding and bridging). It was based on the norm of getting out of the shocks that arise in seaweed cultivation due to climate change. The strategy that can be applied from the SWOT analysis, namely the existence of partnerships that must be built so that seaweed businesses can be sustainable in facing shocks from climate change by involving local governments, educational research institutions, the Department of Fisheries and Marine Affairs, seaweed farmers, with strengthening financial institutions and markets.

Abstract

One way to increase tilapia aquaculture production is to produce feed. Materials are easy to obtain, do not compete with the community and are cheap wrongthe other is rice bran. This study aims to determine the effect of fermented rice bran flour using various types of fermenters on the growth performanceand feed utilization efficiency of tilapia. This research was conducted inSidenreng Rappang Regency. The test animals used were tilapia larvae measuring ± 1.05 g. The maintenance container is a tarpaulin pond with a size of 1 m x 1 m x 1 m filled with 85 L of fresh water. The study was designed using a completely randomized design consisting of four treatmentsand three replications, thus there were 12 experimental units. The treatment was determined based on the fermenter used for fermenting rice bran flour, namely Bacillus sp., Lactobacillus sp., Aspergillus nigers and Yeast.The test feed was given to tilapia larvae whichwere stocked with 20 fish per container for 60 days of rearing. The data on specific growth rate and feed efficiency of tilapia were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and water quality was analyzed descriptively based on the viability of tilapia.The results showed that tilapia fed fermented rice bran feed using Aspergillus nigers fermenter a significant effect on the specific growth rate and feed efficiency of tilapia. The optimal fermenter for hydrolyzing rice bran flour is using Aspergillus nigers.
