Abstract

Climate change is a natural phenomenon that poses a risk of vulnerability in the sustainability of seaweed cultivation because it can reduce production and income. Therefore, a sustainability strategy is needed, as well as the role of social capital, which is the most important element in carrying out cultivation because it is a means to build communication and cooperation in overcoming obstacles from climate change. Social capital is an element that supports internal and external factors. The study's objectives are: (1). The role of social capital in the sustainability of seaweed cultivation (2)—the existence of a sustainability strategy in dealing with climate change. Therefore, the study was conducted by taking the location of the seaweed center in South Sulawesi in Laikang Village, Manggarabombang District, Takalar Regency, by taking 20 informants from the seaweed farming community, extension workers, village government, and the Fisheries and Marine Service. It was done by conducting observation actions and in-depth interviews with the FGD (forum discussion group) mechanism and documentation. Data analysis was carried out descriptively and qualitatively using a Likert scale. The sustainability strategy was compiled with a SWOT analysis by including internal and external factors in the seaweed business involving the farming community and supporting institutions. The study results showed that social capital was built to improve communication and strengthen networks (bonding and bridging). It was based on the norm of getting out of the shocks that arise in seaweed cultivation due to climate change. The strategy that can be applied from the SWOT analysis, namely the existence of partnerships that must be built so that seaweed businesses can be sustainable in facing shocks from climate change by involving local governments, educational research institutions, the Department of Fisheries and Marine Affairs, seaweed farmers, with strengthening financial institutions and markets.

Abstract

One way to increase tilapia aquaculture production is to produce feed. Materials are easy to obtain, do not compete with the community and are cheap wrongthe other is rice bran. This study aims to determine the effect of fermented rice bran flour using various types of fermenters on the growth performanceand feed utilization efficiency of tilapia. This research was conducted inSidenreng Rappang Regency. The test animals used were tilapia larvae measuring ± 1.05 g. The maintenance container is a tarpaulin pond with a size of 1 m x 1 m x 1 m filled with 85 L of fresh water. The study was designed using a completely randomized design consisting of four treatmentsand three replications, thus there were 12 experimental units. The treatment was determined based on the fermenter used for fermenting rice bran flour, namely Bacillus sp., Lactobacillus sp., Aspergillus nigers and Yeast. The test feed was given to tilapia larvae whichwere stocked with 20 fish per container for 60 days of rearing. The data on specific growth rate and feed efficiency of tilapia were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and water quality was analyzed descriptively based on the viability of tilapia. The results showed that tilapia fed fermented rice bran feed using Aspergillus nigers fermenter a significant effect on the specific growth rate and feed efficiency of tilapia. The optimal fermenter for hydrolyzing rice bran flour is using Aspergillus nigers.

Abstract

Using natural anesthetic materials to transport tilapia fry is crucial for finding sustainable alternatives to commonly used chemicals. This study aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of lempuyang extract (Zingiber zerumbet) in transporting tilapia fry by increasing density and transportation duration while ensuring the well-being of the fry, as indicated by the survival rate. The study results suggest that Z. zerumbet can safely transport tilapia fry at a density of up to 145 fish/L, maintaining stable glucose levels and normal hematocrit. The survival rates remained consistently high at 99-100% with no significant differences. In conclusion, the study suggests that using Z. zerumbet at 5 mL/L in the transportation medium can support a density of 145 fish/L for up to 15 hours, making it an effective natural anesthetic for transporting fish fry.

Abstract

Wetlands are essential in economic and ecological systems, especially in tropical regions. Economically, this land has the potential to be used for agriculture, fishery plantations, and animal husbandry. Ecologically, wetlands are ecosystems that are rich in biodiversity and function as carbon sinks, natural water filters, and providers of natural resources for surrounding communities. The management approach must involve not only modern technology but also local wisdom to realize sustainable plantations in wetlands. Local practices in wetland management that support sustainable plantations include local knowledge in choosing adaptive commodities, fire prevention, agroforestry systems, togetherness in society, rituals, traditions and community beliefs, cooperation in communities, and customary law. The wisdom values contained in this practice include respect for the environment, collaboration within the community, preservation of heritage and culture, adaptability and resistance to change, spiritual values, and respect for ancestors.

Abstract

Indonesia is the sixth largest cotton importer and the ninth largest cotton user in the world. Therefore, efforts are needed to form new superior varieties, starting with determining the performance of cotton as a candidate for the formation of new superior varieties. This research aims to obtain cotton seeds for seed multiplication the following year, producing good brown cotton performance based on agronomic characteristics and the best type of organic fertilizer in increasing the growth of cotton plants. This study was conducted at the KP. Faculty of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries, Muhammadiyah University of Parepare from June to October 2023. This study used a randomized block design with five repetitions. The treatments used were 4 types of fertilizers, namely chemical fertilizers, cocoa shell waste compost, goat manure compost, and Eco Glasum organic fertilizer. Thus, there were 20 experimental units. The observation parameters observed and measured were plant height (cm), number of leaves (strands), number of generative branches, pollen phenotype and cotton stomata, and age of flower blooming (DAP). Observation data were processed using the SAS 9.0 and Minitab 14 applications. The results showed that agronomic characters were not significantly different except for the number of leaves. The type of eco glasum fertilizer showed the best performance for the characters of plant height, leaf greenness, number of flowers, number of flowers blooming. Direct selection using scatterplot shows the best eco glasum fertilizer on the character relationship between the number of flowers vs. leaf greenness (R = 0.049 + 2.305X) and the number of flowers vs. plant height (R = 1.427 + 36.57X). Eco Glasum is a modification of solid fertilizer consisting of three types of seaweed, namelyEucheuma cottoni, Glacilaria sp., Sargasum sp. and modified by the addition of natural ZPT (Plant Growth Regulators) which are then fermented.

Abstract

Erosion is the main problem that causes land degradation. Erosion causes many problems, such as reduced soil fertility and shallowing of reservoirs, loss of soil nutrients, environmental ecological damage, and decreased agricultural productivity. The Krueng Peusangan watershed has experienced land degradation through flooding, causing erosion. The flooding problem that occurs every year in the Krueng Peusangan watershed, especially in the Krueng Meuh sub-watershed, as a result of the conversion of forest land, impacts the community and the environment. The research aims to map the distribution of erosion areas in the Kreung Meuh Sub-watershed. The research method uses RUSLE spatial analysis. RUSLE analysis uses data on rain erosivity, soil erosivity, slope length, slope, and land use and conservation measures. The research results show that the Krueng Meuh sub-watershed has experienced erosion in light, medium, and heavy categories. Erosion is currently dominating the Krueng Meuh sub-watershed area, which has an area of 4,762.34 ha. Heavy erosion occurred on slopes >15% with an area of 1,675.27 ha. Meanwhile, very light erosion occurs on slopes <8% (flat) with forest land use with an area of 4,224.01 ha and 1,585.48 ha.

Abstract

Tilapia is a widely favored type of fish because it has thick meat and a delicious taste. The use of probiotics in tilapia maintenance can increase immunity from disease attacks through the addition of probiotics can increase the nutritional content of feed protein and maintain the balance of digestive tract microbes. The study aims to provide feed enriched with Bacillus subtilis probiotics to see parameters in the form of immune responses through blood pictures in tilapia, survival rates, and daily growth rate values. Tilapia seeds (5-7cm) were maintained in maintenance tanks with 5 treatments and 3 repetitions in the form of treatment without additional B. subtilis, addition of B. subtilis 10³ CFU / mL, addition of B. subtilis 105 CFU / mL, addition of B. subtilis 107 CFU / mL, and treatment with the addition of B. subtilis 109 CFU / mL. The results obtained showed that the addition of B. subtilis probiotics to saline tilapia fish feed with a concentration of 107 CFU/mL could increase the number of erythrocytes and was able to increase the survival value, as well as the daily growth rate of saline tilapia fish (O. niloticus) significantly. However, they did not affect the number of fish leukocytes during maintenance.
