Abstract

This research aims to determine the differences between self-regulated learning (SRL) and cognitive learning outcomes (CLO) of students who use multiple representation-based e-modules with students who use other teaching materials without being based on multiple representations on buffer solution materials and to determine the percentage of effective contribution. The subjects of this study were students of class XI MIPA at one of the high schools in Yogyakarta. The sampling technique carried out is cluster random sampling with a quasi-experiment method by posttest-only control group design. The instruments used are questionnaires on self-regulated learning and cognitive learning outcomes. The data analysis technique used in the field test results used Hotelling's Trace test and the results of effective contribution were obtained from the Partial Eta Squared value. The results showed that the significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 so that H0 was rejected, which means that there are differences in SRL and CLO of students between students who use multiple representation-based e-modules and students who use other teaching materials without multiple representations based on buffer solution materials. The percentage of effective contribution of the use of e-modules to SRL by 16.5%, CLO by 11.8%, and SRL and CLO by 20.3%.

Abstract

Mathematics's role in solving chemical phenomena has been well known. Basic mathematical operations such as integral, logarithm and differentiations are the tools for communicating chemistry concepts. This paper describes the effect of chemistry students' mathematical ability on understanding buffer solutions. 56 First-year university chemistry students at a public University in Malang, East Java, taking basic chemistry modules involved in this study. The respondents participated on a voluntary basis after getting a piece of comprehensive information about the study. An equivalent basic mathematical skill test (BMST) and Buffer Solution Test (BST) was implemented for data collection. This study found a positive correlation between students' mathematical ability and success in answering relevant buffer solution questions. The contribution of mathematical knowledge in predicting chemistry students' success in answering relevant buffer solution questions was also essentially high.

Abstract

Teaching materials are vital recources for students in their learning process. Decision-making skills are one of the essential competencies that students have to possess in the 21st century. The global dilemmas being faced today and will get worse is climate change. The challenges caused by climate change that is occurring need to involve students looking for the best decisions as well as through these problems students will be able to train their decision-making abilities. This study aimed to analyze the importance of developing socio-scientific issues teaching materials to train decision-making skills so that later it will be improved. Data were collected through questionnaires filled out by 30 students to gauge their current decision-making abilities, revealing a tendency to rely on personal feelings. Additionally, 10 teachers were surveyed about their methods for enhancing students’ decision-making skills. This data was analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results of the study found that the level of students' ability to make decisions is still low and based on their personal feelings. Also, there were no teaching materials containing socioscientific-issues to train students' decision-making skill. Thus, it is important to develop android-based socioscientific-issues teaching materials on the topic of climate change to improve students' decision-making skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the characteristics of the items based on the classical test theory approach. This research is exploratory research with a quantitative approach. The data used in this study were data from the 2015 Science Subject National Examination for Junior High School in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) province. The samples taken in this study were 9054 students. Test takers are grouped into high groups and low groups based on the total score obtained. Estimation of item parameters using Excel and QUEST. The results of the analysis show that based on the classical test theory approach, the average item difficulty level ) in the high group is in the easy category, while in the low group, it is in the medium category, the average item differential index ( ) shows that the test ability to distinguish students with high abilities and low abilities in both the high and low groups is in the unfavorable category; and the reliability coefficient of the test (ρ) in the high group has high reliability, and the low group has perfect reliability

Abstract

A person's critical thinking style will determine the extent of critical thinking skills. This study examines differences in the critical thinking styles of biology teacher candidates based on academic level. The method applied in this study is non-experimental with a comparative design. The instrument used was the Yanpiaw Creative-Critical Style Test, which was given to several prospective biology teacher students from semester 2, semester 4, semester 6, and semester 8 as respondents. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the average critical thinking style between students in semester 2 and semester 6 (sig. 0.011 < 0.05) and between semester 2 and semester 8 (sig. 0.029 < 0.05). Based on the findings, it can be concluded that academic level or level does not always affect a person's critical thinking style. However, it is also possible due to academic majors, behavior style, and ethnicity (culture). Therefore, an educator needs to provide learning methods and media that can support the development of students' critical thinking styles.

Abstract

Prospective biology teachers need to be well prepared, not only in terms of biology content but also their teaching skills, including lesson study. This study aims to developing a biology lesson study book based on scientific approach. The research method used is research and development by adopting the ADDIE model. The research instrument used was a questionnaire to measure the responses of experts, teachers and students to the quality of the book. This research also pays attention to qualitative (suggestions and comments) and quantitative data. The results showed that the book was considered feasible by experts. Teacher and student responses also showed a positive impact on the use of the book. The test results also showed an increase in learning outcomes. So, the book can be used in classroom learning.

Abstract

The implementation of HOTS in the learning process is considered capable of improving the quality of education in Indonesia. However, in online learning conditions, there are many obstacles and limitations to training HOTS in Biology lesson. This study aims to describe biology teachers' knowledge, preparation, and implementation of HOTS training during online learning. This study uses a qualitative approach to the type of phenomenology. This study involved 12 Biology teachers at SMA and SMK in West Java. The data collection technique is carried out through interviews via WhatsApp Call. The data analysis technique used is through reduction, data review, and conclusions drawing. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that the teacher’s understanding of HOTS learning is still weak, and the implementation of HOTS training during online learning is still not optimal. The most widely used learning model is Problem based Learning. The constraint implementation of online HOTS training is inseparable from the online learning barriers, but teachers also continue to try to handle these barriers with various solutions.

Abstract

Micro-earthquake (MEQ) distribution describes subsurface conditions that can contribute to monitoring the dynamics of geothermal reservoirs. Thus, the distribution of MEQ hypocenter locations with high accuracy becomes extremely important. Experiments were conducted with 3 variations of geometry and number of seismic stations, while Geiger and Coupled Velocity-Hypocenter methods were used to determine the location of MEQ. Experimental results show that in determining the location of the MEQ, the geometry and number of seismic stations played an important role. Increasing the number of stations with relatively long distances can result in less accurate locations of MEQ, error and bias in determining the location of MEQ will be greater when the azimuth gap value is greater. This is shown by the distribution of MEQ that are more spread out in variations 4A and 4B (4 seismic stations) compared to the distribution of MEQ hypocenters using data from 8 seismic stations. The azimuth gap variations of stations 4A and 4B are 283° and 267°, and 8 stations have a value of 222°. The large value of the azimuth gap is due to the distribution of stations only on one side so that there are horizontal angles that are not covered by seismic stations.

Abstract

Intensive exploitation of geothermal injection and production can trigger microearthquakes which it signals come from dynamic fractures. The purpose of this study is to decide the impact of local magnitude on mitigation in geothermal fields based on soil acceleration and vulnerability of seismic in geothermal fields. This study uses seismic wave recording data and the geology of the research area. It is focable on calculating local magnitude, ground acceleration and seismic susceptibility index to earthquakes based on ground acceleration and seismic susceptibility index in geothermal fields. The maximum amplitude value represent that the medium classification class (3<A0<6) is associated with a moderate degree of deformation. Natural frequency value are found with a moderate classification (4<f0<10) around the area of injection wells and production wells, indicating that the research area has a moderate level of soil hardness structure. The peak ground acceleration in the study area is classified as moderate (0.25<PGA<0.7) which means that the area has a moderate level of risk. Vulnerability of seismic in the study area is included in the low classification (Kg<10). The local magnitude impact on soil acceleration and vulnerability of seismic in this study has a moderate risk and can be categorised as safe. In the future, this research serves as a basis for proper decision-making in geothermal energy operations, monitoring, and infrastructure development

Abstract

In Lombok, the traditional process of dyeing woven fabrics primarily involves the use of synthetic dyes, which can contribute to environmental pollution. This study aimed to identify the characteristics of woven yarn and assess the effect of dye solution pH on yarn properties when using teak leaves (Tectona grandis) to produce dye powder through a mechanical thermal method. The thread coloring process comprised mordanting, coloring, and fixation stages, with the assistance of Android applications for color analysis and a Universal Tensile Machine Type RTG-1310 to assess mechanical properties. The results revealed that dyeing yarn with anthocyanin powder from teak leaves yielded a range of colors, including shades of gray, brown, and red. The highest tensile strength observed was 2,664 cN/dtex, and the solution's pH significantly influenced the dominant color, with red being prominent. Notably, optimal tensile strength (1,649 cN/dtex) was achieved at pH six. These findings highlight the potential for producing high-quality cotton threads using different dyeing processes and techniques. The study's insights contribute to both environmental protection and thread quality enhancement in the textile industry
