Abstract

Perineal wound suturing is a common procedure during childbirth, affecting approximately 350,000 women annually in the UK and millions worldwide. Effective management of puerperal care with perineal sutures is critical to prevent infection and promote healing. This study examines the effect of black honey consumption as a complementary therapy to accelerate healing of grade II perineal wounds. Black honey’s antibacterial properties and cell regeneration capabilities support the wound healing process. The research was conducted at Mutiara Medika Clinic-Rangkasbitung in 2022 using a Control Group Posttest-Only design. A total of 38 postpartum mothers meeting the inclusion criteria were divided into intervention (n = 19) and control groups (n = 19). The intervention group consumed black honey in addition to standard puerperal care. Wound healing scores were assessed on days 3, 5, and 7. Statistical analysis revealed a significant improvement in wound healing for the intervention group compared to the control group (p = 0.003 and 0.000, respectively). The findings suggest that black honey consumption can serve as an effective complementary therapy to accelerate grade II perineal wound healing and reduce infection risk during the puerperium.

Abstract

A common reproductive health issue among Indonesian teenagers is vaginal discharge (Flour albus), with 75% of the 37.4 million adolescent population affected in 2023. Vaginal discharge, or leukorrhea, is the production of pus-like mucus. While normal discharge helps keep the vagina clean, abnormal discharge can signal health issues. This quantitative study used a quasi-experimental two-group pre-test post-test design, involving 80 young women with vaginal discharge over seven days, divided into eight groups. Treatments included pineapple juice, boiled betel leaves, turmeric, red rose tea, bay leaves, soursop leaves, binahong leaves, and aloe vera. Statistical analysis with Anova-One Way (Sig. < 0.05) showed significant effects of the interventions. Tukey's test revealed boiled betel leaf had the highest average reduction (mean 2.30), while aloe vera had the lowest (mean 5.70), suggesting medicinal plants are effective in treating vaginal discharge among adolescent girls in Lampung and Karawang Regencies.

Abstract

The Balanced Counseling Strategy for Family Planning (SKB-KB) significantly influences the decision to choose Postpartum Family Planning (KBPP). SKB-KB provides comprehensive information to couples about contraceptive methods after childbirth. This study aims to assess the impact of SKB-KB counseling on KBPP decisions in 2024 and its contribution to population reduction. A quasi-experimental method was used, with sample size determined by G-Power software, involving 71 respondents aged 38-39 weeks, divided across seven healthcare facilities. These include TPMB Alfiatun Jannah Asmin Jakarta, UPTD Sobang Public Health Center, Cipanas Inpatient Health Center, and others. The study employed a one-group pre-test and post-test design to measure the impact of counseling. Results show that SKB-KB counseling significantly affects the choice of postpartum contraception, indicating its potential in reducing population growth. The findings highlight that midwives can effectively educate family planning acceptors using balanced counseling strategies, helping them make informed contraceptive choices. This strategy is essential in contributing to population control efforts.

Abstract

This research explores how sexual education and social awareness influence children's knowledge about sexual violence, bullying, and cybercrime. Education in these early stages of developmental biology is critical because children are forming their cognitive and social capacities. This research used a simple random sampling technique to select samples based on the Slovin formula and collected primary data through a pretest-posttest questionnaire. Analysis using a paired sample t-test shows a significant increase in children's understanding of these topics after education. Conclusions from the study suggest the continuation and support of sexual education and social awareness programs, given their effectiveness in increasing awareness and knowledge at an early age. It is recommended that educational institutions and parents support the implementation of similar programs that can facilitate healthy and proactive social development among elementary school children, with further research needed to optimize these educational components in various social contexts

Abstract

The lack in knowledge of biodiversity's value at a young age accompanies the loss of biodiversit can be overcome with indigenous knowledge. Wiwitan is a form of indigenous knowledge that takes the form of a Thanksgiving prayer held prior to the commencement of the harvest season. This tradition serves to demonstrate the value placed on biodiversity, with the spiritual value of ubarampe, or offerings. Ubarampe is a traditional ritual apparatus that employs biodiversity, including plants and animals. Nevertheless, the knowledge associated with ubarampe remains predominantly oral and demonstrative, with no documented research or written records. The study aimed to investigate the ritual of Wiwitan, its ubarampe, the spiritual value, and utilization of organisms. Additionally, the purpose of this study is to depict educational videos that enhance comprehension and appreciation of the biodiversity value of the ubarampe in the Wiwitan ritual. The research technique employed ethnobiological principles during field exploration. The findings revealed that eleven types of ubarampe were utilized with eighteen plant species. The informative videos are available on the following YouTube link: https://youtu.be/Ld7LgjMNH8Y. Creating educational video and uploaded it on YouTube presents an alternative means of promoting the biodiversity value of the Wiwitan ritual.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional phase towards adulthood, marked by sexual maturation and identity exploration. Reproductive health encompasses physical, mental, and social well-being. Sexual education, provided by both parents and schools, is crucial for preventing unwanted pregnancies, abortions, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). This study examines the impact of sexual education on adolescents' knowledge and attitudes about reproductive health, focusing on high school students in Jakarta, Bekasi, and Pekalongan. Using an experimental method (one group pretest-posttest design) over three months (April-June 2024), the study involved 120 respondents who completed questionnaires. Data analysis included univariate health promotion analysis and bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed a significant influence of sexual education on changes in knowledge and attitudes, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that health education interventions effectively enhance students' understanding and attitudes, providing valuable insights for schools in preventing unwanted pregnancies, abortions, and STIs.

Abstract

Snakehead fish is rich in nutrients, particularly protein and albumin, which are vital for health. Albumin plays a crucial role in the body by aiding the formation of new cell tissue. Without sufficient albumin, cells struggle to regenerate, leading to rapid cell death and hindered development. A study was conducted in the Jakarta-Tangerang area in 2024 to assess the effectiveness of snakehead fish extract on the healing time of perineal wounds in postpartum women with perineal rupture. The study recruited 88 respondents, divided equally into intervention and control groups. Using G-Power Version 3.1.9.4 software, the sample size was determined, and data analysis was performed using independent sample t-tests for normally distributed data and the Mann-Whitney test for non-normally distributed data. Results showed that the intervention group had a significantly shorter average healing time (24.01 days) compared to the control group (64.99 days), with a p-value of 0.000, indicating the effectiveness of snakehead fish extract in accelerating perineal wound healing. The study suggests educating women on the benefits of consuming snakehead fish extract to promote faster recovery from perineal wounds.
