Abstract

Indirect hyperbilirubinemia is one of the conditions that most affects the health of newborns throughout the world, occurring in 60% of term newborns and 80% of premature newborns. Baby massage has emerged as an effective method in treating jaundice babies. This study aims to determine the effect of baby massage on reducing bilirubin in icteric babies. The method used was pre-test and post-test with a control group (quasi-experiment with control). The study population consisted of 120 icteric babies treated in hospitals in the Banten and West Java regions in June 2024, with a sample of 92 babies selected using purposive sampling. The results showed that in the intervention group, the average baby bilirubin level before massage was 16.4 mg/dL and after massage it was 11.9 mg/dL. In the control group, the average bilirubin level before massage was 17.7 mg/dL and after massage it was 10.6 mg/dL. There was a significant difference in the reduction of bilirubin levels in icteric babies who were given and not given breast milk in the intervention group (p-Value=0.008 and p-Value=0.000). The conclusion of this study is that baby massage has a significant effect on reducing bilirubin levels in icteric babies, both in the intervention and control groups (p-Value=0.000). Therefore, infant massage is recommended as part of the care of babies with neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, but it must still be done with caution.

Abstract

Cultural beliefs and practices significantly influence postpartum care, affecting maternal health outcomes both positively and negatively. In developing countries, around 70% of postpartum mothers lack adequate care and often only seek medical attention in severe cases, contributing to elevated maternal mortality rates during the postpartum period. This study investigates how cultural practices impact postpartum care and the incidence of postpartum infection pathogenesis. Using a cross-sectional study design, the research analyzed data from 141 participants with chi-square tests. Results reveal a significant relationship between postpartum care culture and infection incidence, with a p-value of 0.000. Participants were primarily aged 20-35 years (61%), had high school education (68.80%), and were non-working (72.30%). These factors suggest that education and employment status may affect postpartum care practices. A majority of respondents exhibited positive care practices, with 51.10% reporting good care and no postpartum infections. The findings highlight the necessity for developing culturally sensitive postpartum care guidelines to reduce infection risks and enhance maternal health outcomes by incorporating local cultural values into care practices.

Abstract

Emesis gravidarum, commonly known as morning sickness, often disrupts activities for pregnant women, primarily due to decreased progesterone levels and fluctuating hCG levels. A non-pharmacological approach to alleviate this condition involves acupressure massage at the P6 (Neiguan) point, combined with ginger juice and honey. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of this method in reducing emesis gravidarum in Indonesian women during their first trimester. Utilizing a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design, the research included 205 pregnant women experiencing first-trimester emesis gravidarum, selected through purposive sampling. Data collection was performed using the PUQE-24 questionnaire and observation sheets. The analysis, conducted with paired sample t-tests, revealed an average severity score reduction from 9.40 (moderate) to 4.49 (mild), showing a significant average difference of 4.91. The bivariate analysis confirmed the effectiveness of the intervention, with a p-value of 0.000. This method is recommended for health workers as it is cost-effective, has no side effects, and provides a safe treatment option for managing emesis gravidarum in pregnant women.
