Abstract

This study developed Project-Based Learning (PjBL) instructional materials for Grade-6 IPAS (Integrated Science and Social Studies) using Plomp’s development model. The process followed three consolidated phases: (1) preliminary investigation (curriculum analysis, learner characteristics, learning needs, and review of existing materials); (2) design and construction producing Prototype 1, followed by expert validation of content, language, and media with iterative revision; and (3) test–evaluation–revision, including practicality trials (one-to-one, small group, and field) and descriptive checks of learning outcomes. Mean expert validity was 89.7% on a 0–100% scale. Practicality rose from 78% (one-to-one) to 86% (small group) and 91% (field), placing the materials in the very practical category at field testing (≥90%). During classroom implementation, average student engagement was 87%, and 93% of students met classical mastery on the post-test. The findings indicate high validity ratings and very high practicality for classroom use; outcome data show strong post-test attainment and engagement but do not evidence improvement in the absence of a pre-test or control comparisons. In conclusion, the PjBL-based IPAS materials are feasible for Grade-6 implementation and merit further effectiveness studies using pre–post or comparative designs.

Abstract

Traditional food processing practices often contain implicit scientific knowledge that can be systematically analyzed and explained using modern science. This study examines the scientific knowledge embedded in the traditional preparation of Wadi, a fermented fish product of the Dayak and Banjar communities. The research aims to identify and describe forms of scientific knowledge represented in each stage of the Wadi-making process. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method using documentation analysis. Data were collected from selected written and visual sources that clearly describe the stages of Wadi production. The data were analyzed by mapping traditional practices to scientific concepts in food science. The results indicate that the preparation of Wadi embodies multiple forms of scientific knowledge, including osmosis in the salting process, salt-based preservation through microbial inhibition, lactic acid fermentation, moisture control, and biochemical transformations such as protein hydrolysis. These findings demonstrate that traditional culinary practices are not merely cultural activities but also reflect systematic scientific knowledge consistent with principles of microbiology, biochemistry, and food preservation. In conclusion, the scientific knowledge identified in the making of Wadi has strong potential to support contextual and culturally relevant science learning by connecting everyday practices with formal scientific concepts.

Abstract

Sustainable irrigation management plays a crucial role in supporting efficient and environmentally friendly agriculture. This study aims to identify the existing condition of the irrigation network, analyze the performance index of the tertiary irrigation system, and explain the concept of sustainable irrigation management in the Lamasi Irrigation Area. The study was conducted at Lamasi Dam, Batusitanduk Village, Walenrang Sub-district, Luwu Regency, using a quantitative descriptive approach. Secondary data were obtained from maps and irrigation network schemes of the Public Works Department of South Sulawesi Province, while primary data were collected through field surveys related to the physical condition of irrigation channels and structures. Performance analysis used irrigation performance index indicators and the ePAKSI application. The results showed a reliable discharge of 10 m³/second with 78 water user farmer associations. Irrigation performance was classified as good with a value of 84.83%, while the tertiary irrigation network condition index was 73.30% (moderate category) as found in this study, with a damage level of 21–40% requiring regular maintenance. The conclusion indicates the need for improved network maintenance and strengthening collaboration between stakeholders based on information technology.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate an Arduino-based digital pH meter and thermometer prototype equipped with automatic temperature compensation (ATC) and a 3D-printed casing for practical household and micro-industrial applications. The device was tested on fifteen consumer products from four categories—food, beverages, hygiene, and cosmetics—at three temperature levels (30°C, 35°C, and 40°C). Measured parameters included pH, millivolt (mV) outputs, stabilization time, and reading stability. The results showed that pH values decreased with increasing temperature, consistent with H⁺ ion dissociation principles. For example, vinegar (pH 2.80–2.68) and soda (pH 3.45–3.36) showed the most significant decreases, while basic products such as detergent (pH 10.20–10.08) and liquid soap (pH 9.10–9.00) exhibited stable negative mV readings. The average stabilization time ranged from 6 to 12 seconds, with all samples showing stable readings (±0.01 pH variation). Calibration results indicated that three-point calibration (pH 4, 7, 10) produced the highest accuracy (±0.04 pH; R² = 0.993). The 3D-printed PLA casing provided durable protection, ergonomic handling, and fast reprintability. Overall, the prototype demonstrated reliable, accurate, and stable performance, proving that low-cost hardware and software integration can yield an efficient and accessible pH and temperature measuring tool.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a food education program in promoting healthy lifestyles among elementary school students in remote indigenous communities in Central Sulawesi. The research employed pre-test and post-test design, measuring various aspects before and after the intervention. The sample included students, teachers, staff, and parents. The results demonstrated significant improvements across multiple domains. Students' nutritional knowledge increased by 33.40 points, from 45.20% to 78.60%. Attitudes toward healthy food improved by 26.00 points, rising from 64.00% to 90.00%. Food consumption practices showed 38.00 points increase in vegetable and fruit intake, alongside a 60.40% reduction in unhealthy snacking. The percentage of students with normal Body Mass Index (BMI) rose by 14.00 points, from 68% to 82%. Physical activity levels also surged significantly by 41.70 points, from 50.00% to 91.70% of daily recommendations. The program exhibited strong sustainability potential, with 85.00% support from teachers and school staff, and a 70.00% increase in parental awareness. Community-level impacts included a 40.00% rise in demand for local vegetables and 65.00% of families starting home vegetable gardens. Students' cooking skills advanced, with 75.00% able to prepare traditional healthy foods and 60.00% sharing healthy recipes with their families. Nutritional literacy improved markedly, evidenced by a 45.00% increase in the ability to read food labels. In conclusion, this intervention successfully enhanced students' knowledge, attitudes, and practices in nutrition and health through food education, yielding positive impacts that foster healthy lifestyles among elementary school students in remote indigenous communities in Central Sulawesi

Abstract

This investigation evaluated spatial and temporal variations in plankton abundance and community structure to determine their effectiveness as bioindicators of water quality in coastal rice-field ecosystems of Batang Regency, Central Java. Plankton samples were collected from five sampling stations using 80 mL film vials and subsequently identified through laboratory-based taxonomic analysis. Key physicochemical factors were measured ex situ, and the analyses evaluated plankton abundance, Shannon–Wiener diversity index (H’), evenness (e), dominance (C), and saprobic index. Results demonstrated relatively low plankton abundance, with Bacillariophyceae (40%), particularly Chaetoceros sp., representing the principal taxonomic group, followed by Chlorella sp. Moderate diversity levels (H’ = 1.45–2.85), high evenness (e > 0.6), and low dominance (C < 0.5) indicated a community structure with stable ecological dynamics. Most water quality parameters conformed to Indonesian water-quality criteria, characterized by a salinity of 0.5 g/L, temperatures of 23–24 °C, and dissolved-oxygen concentrations above 4.0 mg/L. However, the saprobic index revealed light to moderate pollution at stations near settlements and downstream river segments, likely influenced by domestic wastewater, agricultural runoff, and seawater intrusion. Overall, the ecosystem remained supportive of primary productivity, emphasizing the significance of plankton as sensitive indicators for monitoring coastal agricultural environments

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the forms of environmental education integration in science learning and the challenges faced by teachers in its implementation. This reseach approach used is a qualitative with a phenomenological design, stages include four main steps, namely bracketing, intuition, analysis, and description. Based on the analysis of teachers' responses, three main forms of integration were obtained, namely. (1) a contextual learning approach, (2) utilizing the surrounding environment, both the school environment and conservation areas, (3) strengthening environmental literacy and awareness through student involvement in environmental management activities. This study also found various challenges in implementing, including limited facilities and infrastructure, low student learning motivation, and difficulties in managing learning activities outside the classroom. External factors, such as limited school support, logistics, weather conditions, and a lack of learning media, exacerbate these obstacles. These findings indicate that teachers have a high awareness of their strategic role in fostering students' ecological awareness. However, in addition, teachers' limited understanding of the concept of environmental education integration in science learning is still found. Therefore, increasing teacher capacity through training, curriculum development, and structural support is important for the successful integration of environmental education in science learning

Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ practical skills in green energy through the implementation of a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model integrated with industrial electronics–based solar energy projects, supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in higher education. The research employed a quantitative quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group. Participants were second-semester Industrial Engineering students enrolled in an Industrial Electronics practicum course. The experimental group (n = 31) was taught using PjBL through the design and implementation of a microcontroller-based solar panel system, while the control group (n = 32) received conventional instruction. Data were collected using practical skill tests and performance observation rubrics. The results showed a substantial improvement in the experimental group, with the mean score increasing from 57.4 (pre-test) to 81.6 (post-test), whereas the control group showed a smaller increase from 56.9 to 65.3. Paired t-test analysis indicated a significant difference (p < 0.05), demonstrating the effectiveness of the PjBL model. These findings indicate that project-based industrial electronics learning effectively enhances students’ green energy practical skills. In conclusion, the study confirms that contextual PjBL can strengthen work-oriented competencies and support sustainable education aligned with SDGs.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology today requires development in the field of learning media in order to integrate technology in its process. One of strategy that can be used is integrating the technology as assessment tools. In this research, the platform that used is Kahoot. The objective of this research was to determine the validity products as assessment tool. This research used a modified 4D development model that only implemented till expert validation. Based on the expert validity test shows in terms of content/material aspect the product obtains 93.75% score with very valid criteria, then 97.50% score with very valid criteria also in media aspect, and 98.75% score with very valid criteria in language aspect. Based on this expert validity test, the product obtained overall validity score with a high percentage with a 96.67% value which meets the very good validity criteria. This study shows that the integration of technology can be combined as an assessment tool for prospective biology teacher students. This study is still limited to the validity test only, then this validated product can be used for further research to measure the level of effectiveness and practicality of its use.

Abstract

Inefficient irrigation water distribution remains a critical barrier to achieving optimal crop productivity and ensuring food security in rural Indonesia. This study focuses on the Gembolo Irrigation Area, Mojokerto Regency, by applying Deterministic Dynamic Programming (DDP) to optimize water allocation under a Rice–Rice–Secondary Crop (RTTG) rotation. The comprehensive integration of hydrological, climatological, and cropping data was employed to construct a DDP model that synchronizes irrigation supply with crop water demand across nine irrigation structures (G1–G9). The optimization results reveal significant improvements: irrigated area expanded by 254 ha, cropping intensity increased from 277 to 300%, and farmers’ net income rose by IDR 5.3 billion compared to the existing allocation scheme. These findings demonstrate the capacity of DDP to enhance water-use efficiency while strengthening the resilience and sustainability of rural agricultural systems. The study highlights the importance of data-driven optimization as a decision-support framework for advancing integrated irrigation management and rural development.
