Abstract

Exploration and investigation in various locations are essential for identifying biological agent fungi that can be developed for pest control. This study determined identifying and comparing potential entomopathogenic fungi from different plantation areas. Soil samples were collected from oil palm (Sebuku), cocoa (Sebatik), and coffee (Malinau) plantations. We used T. mollitor insects to isolate and select the entomopathogenic fungi. We compared the mortality rates of insects exposed to each fungal isolate against a control group during the selection process. t-tests and descriptive analysis were utilized to evaluate the data. This study identified fifteen different fungal isolates. Most of these isolates were obtained from coffee plantations or areas in Malinau. However, only four isolates showed potential as entomopathogens. Furthermore, isolate ST16-3, when diluted to a concentration of 10-1, exhibited higher virulence than the other isolates. The virulence is reached 50.5%. The findings of this study suggested that plantations areas may potentially source of fungi entomopathogens.

Abstract

Knowledge about Triple Elimination, an integrated screening program for HIV, hepatitis B, and syphilis, plays a vital role in improving pregnant women’s adherence to early detection procedures during the first trimester. Strengthening maternal awareness is essential to prevent mother-to-child transmission of these infections. This study aimed to examine the association between pregnant women’s knowledge of Triple Elimination and their compliance with the recommended screening examinations. A quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach was employed. A total of 350 pregnant women were selected as the study sample. Data were analyzed using the chi-square statistical test to determine the association between knowledge levels and examination compliance. The results showed a significant relationship between knowledge about Triple Elimination and screening compliance (p = 0.000; α = 0.05), indicating that higher levels of maternal knowledge were associated with greater adherence to the recommended tests. This study highlights the importance of strengthening educational strategies to improve maternal knowledge and ensure consistent compliance with Triple Elimination screening. The findings can serve as evidence for policymakers and healthcare providers in designing sustainable interventions to enhance maternal and neonatal health outcomes.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnancy remains a major public health problem worldwide, contributing to increased maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. Purple sweet potato leaves (Ipomoea batatas L.) are rich in iron, folate, vitamin C, and anthocyanins, which are beneficial for hemoglobin synthesis and iron absorption. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of purple sweet potato leaf consumption in increasing hemoglobin levels among pregnant women in the second and third trimesters with anemia. A quasi-experimental study with a pretest–posttest control group design was conducted on 60 pregnant women with anemia (hemoglobin < 11 g/dL). Participants were allocated into an intervention group (n = 30) consuming 100 g of cooked purple sweet potato leaves daily for four weeks, and a control group (n = 30) following the standard antenatal diet without additional intervention. Hemoglobin levels were measured before and after the intervention using the cyanmethemoglobin method. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk test, paired t-test, and independent t-test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The mean hemoglobin increase in the intervention group was significantly higher compared with the control group (1.2 ± 0.4 g/dL vs. 0.3 ± 0.3 g/dL; p < 0.001). The between-group mean difference was 0.9 g/dL (95% CI: 0.7–1.1). Daily consumption of purple sweet potato leaves effectively increased hemoglobin levels in pregnant women with anemia during the second and third trimesters. This local food-based intervention may serve as a practical alternative strategy to prevent and manage anemia in pregnancy.

Abstract

Immunization is a key strategy to enhance individual immunity through the body's memory response. Adequate maternal knowledge regarding post-immunization adverse events (AEFI) is essential to promote awareness and ensure the completion of the recommended immunization schedule. Counseling is one of the most effective approaches to improve mothers’ understanding and attitudes toward AEFI. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of midwife-led counseling in improving mothers’ knowledge and attitudes regarding AEFI. A quantitative pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest approach was employed. The study involved 45 mothers with children aged 0–9 months. Data on knowledge were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney test, while attitudes were assessed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. A significant improvement was observed in maternal knowledge following the counseling intervention (p = 0.000). Similarly, maternal attitudes showed a significant increase after counseling (p = 0.000). These findings indicate that midwife-led counseling effectively enhances both knowledge and attitudes related to AEFI. Counseling provided by midwives is effective in improving maternal knowledge and attitudes regarding post-immunization adverse events. Broader community engagement is recommended to support the dissemination of information on the early management of AEFI

Abstract

Premarital sexual behavior among adolescents remains a significant public health concern globally and in Indonesia. The World Health Organization (2022) reported that approximately 16 million girls aged 15–19 give birth each year, with the highest proportion occurring in developing countries. In Indonesia, the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) have documented a rise in unintended pregnancies among adolescents, which is strongly associated with limited sexual health knowledge and low awareness of the risks associated with premarital sexual behavior. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of video-based health education in improving adolescents’ awareness of premarital sexual behavior. This quasi-experimental study involved all 9th-grade students (n = 282) using a total sampling technique. Data analysis was performed using SPSS. Normality testing was conducted prior to hypothesis testing. A paired sample t-test was used for normally distributed data, while the Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used for non-normally distributed data. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test showed a significant difference in adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes regarding premarital sexual behavior after the intervention (Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000). Since p < 0.05, the hypothesis is accepted. These findings indicate that video-based health education is effective in increasing adolescents’ awareness of premarital sexual behavior. Video-based health education significantly improves adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes regarding the risks of premarital sexual activity and represents an effective strategy for school-based sexual health promotion.

Abstract

Perineal wounds are experienced by 75–90% of postpartum mothers in Indonesia and often lead to pain, risk of infection, and delayed recovery. Although pharmacological treatments are available, safer non-pharmacological alternatives are needed. Duck eggs and snakehead fish contain high-quality protein and albumin, pineapple juice provides bromelain with anti-inflammatory properties, boiled betel leaves act as natural antiseptics, and Kegel exercises improve pelvic circulation. This study aimed to analyze the effects of duck eggs, snakehead fish, pineapple juice, boiled betel leaves, and Kegel exercises on perineal wound healing in postpartum women. A quasi-experimental design with intervention and control groups was used. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate tests. Independent sample t-tests were applied for normally distributed data, and Mann–Whitney tests were applied for non-normal data using SPSS version 25. Duck eggs, snakehead fish, boiled betel leaves, and Kegel exercises significantly improved perineal wound healing (p < 0.05). Pineapple juice did not have a statistically significant effect (p > 0.05). Natural dietary interventions and Kegel exercises can effectively accelerate perineal wound healing in postpartum mothers. These findings support their use as safe, non-pharmacological options in midwifery care.

Abstract

Perineal wounds are a common complication experienced by postpartum mothers during childbirth. Delayed wound healing increases the risk of infection and discomfort during the puerperium. Nutritional intake, particularly protein, plays a vital role in supporting tissue regeneration. Boiled eggs are known as an affordable and highly nutritious source of animal protein. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of boiled egg consumption for accelerating perineal wound healing among postpartum mothers at Klinik Multazam in 2025. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was used, involving 60 postpartum mothers, of which 32 had perineal wounds. Samples were obtained through total sampling. Data were collected using observation sheets and analyzed with the chi-square test. The results showed that most respondents who regularly consumed boiled eggs (78.9%) experienced faster wound healing within (<6 days). The chi-square test yielded a p-value of 0.008 (<0.05), indicating a significant relationship between boiled egg consumption and the speed of perineal wound healing. Regular consumption of boiled eggs was shown to be effective in accelerating perineal wound healing among postpartum mothers. This simple nutritional intervention may serve as a promotive and preventive effort in postpartum midwifery care.

Abstract

Rapid urban development frequently overlooks groundwater availability, potentially causing environmental degradation and unsustainable resource management. This study aims to determine groundwater potential through geoelectric resistivity analysis in Selebar Subdistrict, Bengkulu, specifically at Fatmawati Sukarno State Islamic University campus area. The Schlumberger configuration method was employed across four measurement tracks, with electrode spacing systematically varied to detect subsurface resistivity variations at depths up to 300 meters. Data were processed using Progress Version 3.0 software, applying both direct and indirect interpretation methods through inversion techniques. Laboratory analysis of water samples assessed physical and chemical parameters including pH, turbidity, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), color, odor, and temperature against Minister of Health Regulation No. 32/2017 standards. Results identified two distinct aquifer systems: an unconfined aquifer at 9.94-25.53 meters depth with 15.59 meters thickness, and a confined aquifer exceeding 161.43 meters depth. Resistivity values ranged from 0.93 to 6.74 ohm-m, indicating water-bearing clayey sandstone formations. Water quality analysis demonstrated that samples from three locations met drinking water standards, while the Student Center location exhibited elevated pH (8.64), rendering it unsuitable for direct consumption but acceptable for non-potable applications
