Abstract

Creativity is a key component in the last century skills and has been highlighted in curricular research globally especially in Indonesia. This research therefore aimed at analyzing and identifying perspectives of creativity by pre-service teachers when a likely solution step was generated in the DBL. Three separate design based learning activities were undertaken by 13 female and 11 male pre-service teachers. Two separate methods have been used for analysis of data gathered from pre-service teachers’ writings and drawings, half-structured interviews, and field notes. In quantitative study of pre-service teachers' works and in exploring the notions of creativity, fluency, flexibility, and originality. In this study descriptive analysis was used. In semi-structured interviews and field notes the findings of the descriptive analysis included quality analyses. Description analysis showed the highest showed in creativity and flexibility, but the lowest was originality. The findings of content analysis further showed a variety of factors influencing the uniqueness of pre-service teachers ideas including exposure of people to ideas, knowledge of design based learning and the prototyping of pre-service teachers' ideas. The study results might enhance the usage of DBL to help educators and researchers understand the strengths and limits of their pupils through the creativity and STEM education.

Abstract

Online distance learning during the COVID-19 outbreak presents new challenges and opportunities for teachers and students. The Blended Learning method is reported to be one of the promising alternatives. However, no specific study revealed the proper blended learning model for chemistry learning that require chemistry representation and can improve critical thinking and problem solving skills at high school level. Qualitative research using phenomenological methods was used in this study. The data collection technique used is using questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. A total of 22 respondents from master students of chemistry education, lecturers and teachers of chemistry education participated in this study. The blended learning model analyzed in this study are Rotational blended learning models (station class, Lab/Whole Group class, flipped class, and Individual), Flex, Self-Blend, and Enriched-Virtual classes. The study results indicate that the blended learning model that the respondents chose the most suitable for multiple representation-based chemistry learning was the Flipped Class model (50%), while the one that was not selected was the Individual Rotation model.

Abstract

Science teachers need to pay attention when introducing chemistry to junior high school students hence they don't have low perceptions of chemistry. Multimedia which based on the chemistry triangle can be a solution in helping teachers explains the relationships among macroscopic, sub-microscopic, and symbolic level of chemistry so students can understand the scientific contents better and have a good perceptions. This research aimed to develop a chemistry triangle-based multimedia to build a good impression on junior high school students about chemistry. The design of chemistry triangle-based multimedia was developed through a design-based research (DBR). The participants in the research were three schools of seventh-grade students in Pekalongan Regency, Indonesia. The data were collected through interviews, observations, questionnaires, and tests. The results of this research were in the form of the complete cycles of DBR carried out to produce a chemistry triangle-based multimedia that meets the criteria in helping teachers introduce chemistry in a way that is more easily accepted by students and gives a positive impression about chemistry. This article describes the four phases of the DBR process in the development of chemistry triangle-based multimedia.

Abstract

This study used a qualitative approach using descriptive methods. The research site was conducted at Cimahi City Center for Excellence Vocational High School (Center of Excellence) with teacher research participants in the curriculum and subject teachers involved as supervisors in implementing summative assessments. Data collection is conducted by conducting interviews and documentation studies on learning management systems owned by schools. The validity and reliability of the research results are checked using triangulation of data and information. As a result of the study, summative assessments using LMS Moodle were more effective over time, reduced paper usage was easy to use, and encouraged mastering technology competencies for teachers. The negative impact of using LMS Moodle on summative assessment is the student's chances of finding answers online. Anticipation can be achieved by adding a blocking feature to Moodle. LMS Moodle-based facilities and facilities support facilities are the main prerequisites for the smooth implementation of summative assessments.

Abstract

Misconceptions refer to students' incorrect understanding of a concept, which can lead to difficulties in problem-solving activities. This study aimed to examine the misconceptions of high school students regarding gender differences. The research was conducted in a selected high school, using a purposive sampling technique to select a class with above-average academic achievement. The research used a quantitative descriptive method and analyzed the data using GRM scoring. The findings showed that the average percentage of misconceptions held by students in all competency indicators was 28% for females and 22% for males. Misconceptions were found in all four competency indicators for buffer solution materials, including explaining the meaning of components, the working principle of buffer solutions, the role of buffer solutions in everyday life, and calculating the pH of buffer solutions. The highest percentage of misconceptions for both females and males was found in the first competency indicator, with 47% and 56%, respectively.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the impact of using the Jigsaw Type Learning Model on the Critical Thinking Ability of Class XI students at a certain high school. The research followed an experimental approach using Quasi-Experimental Design. The population in this study consisted of two classes, with a total of 76 students in the first semester of Class XI IPA. A simple random sampling technique was used to select Class XI IPA 2 as the experimental group and Class XI IPA 1 as the control group. The critical thinking ability test in the form of an essay test, consisting of 10 questions, was used as the research instrument. The results of the data analysis showed that the average post-test score for the experimental group was 83.59, while the control group's average post-test score was 50.08. Based on the statistical analysis using the t-test formula with a 5% confidence level, the calculated t-value was 15.7. When compared with the t-table value of 1.404, it was found that t-value of 15.7 > t-table value of 1.404. Therefore, the conclusion drawn from this study was that there is a significant impact of using the Jigsaw Type Cooperative Learning Model on the Critical Thinking Ability of Class XI Students at the mentioned high school

Abstract

Research on chemical literacy skills from a gender perspective on acid-base materials has been conducted at SMA Y in Lahat District. This study aimed to determine students' chemical literacy skills from a gender perspective in acid-base material. This type of research is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The subjects of this study were 28 students of class XI MIPA 1 at SMA Y in Lahat Regency, with 14 male and 14 female students. The instruments in this study were chemical literacy test questions in the form of descriptions and interview guidelines. The results of this study indicate that the chemical literacy ability of SMA Y students in the Lahat Regency is, on average, 56% in the low category. The difference in chemical literacy based on gender for male students is 54%, and for female students is 59%. The chemical literacy of female students is better than male students, with a difference of 5%, and is included in the low category. Female students were better able to answer questions that explained the concept of acids and bases, while male students were better able to answer questions on acid-base calculations

Abstract

This study focuses on improving childhood naturalist intelligence in understanding living organisms, particularly plants, and fostering creative activities. The study utilizes eco-print technique activities to facilitate this improvement. It also assesses the effectiveness of the eco-print technique in enhancing naturalist intelligence among children. It explores eco-printing techniques to boost the naturalist intelligence of 4-6-year-old children at SPS Taam Al-Hidayah, Bandung. The study involves 15 children aged 4-6 years as participants. Following the Kemmis and McTaggart model, the study employed the Classroom Action Research method, involving pre-cycle, cycle 1, and cycle 2 phases, each with planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The qualitative data is complemented by percentage values from each cycle, reflecting the progress in children's naturalist intelligence enhancement using the eco-print technique. The results include presentations of five indicators: pre-cycle, cycle I, and the final action in cycle II, showing values of 40.33%, 60.33%, and 84.33%, respectively
