Abstract

This study aims to describe the views of other figures on homosexuality which are illustrated in Andy Stevenio's Love of Insecure novels. The data in this study are in the form of excerpts of stories in the novel. This study uses reading and technique notes. Data analysis using qualitative methods. The results of the study showed that there were several figures who accepted the perpetrators and rejected homosexual behavior, such as Mama Wira and Mama Wisnu the two figures both accepted the perpetrators but refused their behavior. Most people still accept homosexual behavior because it is related to human rights. However, on the other hand the community continues to accept homosexual behavior because it is contrary to trusted beliefs and customs. Then, there are also those who reject behavior as well as homosexuals like Papa Wira, schools and authors of their own stories. The form of rejection given is in the form of violence against the main character. This is consistent with what is in Indonesia because most homosexuals will be tried or treated harshly in the past. Until finally the Indonesian government formulated a law on LGBT so that LGBT perpetrators still get good treatment. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pandangan tokoh lain terhadap homoseksual yang tergambar dalam novel Cinta Tak Berkelamin karya Andy Stevenio. Data pada penelitian ini berupa kutipan cerita di dalam novel. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik baca dan teknik catat. Analisis data menggunakan metode kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada beberapa tokoh yang menerima pelaku dan menolak perilaku homoseksual, seperti Mama Wira dan Mama Wisnu kedua tokoh sama-sama menerima pelaku tetapi menolak perilakuknya. Kebanyakan masyarakat yang masih menerima perilaku homoseksual karena berkaitan dengan HAM. Namun, di sisi lain masyarakat tetap menerima perilaku homoseksual karna bertentangan dengan kepercayaan dan adat istiadat yang dipercaya. Kemudian, ada pula yang menolak perilaku serta pelaku homoseksual seperti Papa Wira, sekolah serta pengarang cerita sendiri. Bentuk tindakan penolakan yang diberikan berupa tindakan kekerasan terhadap tokoh utama. Hal ini sesuai dengan apa yang ada di Indoensia karena sejak dulu kebanyakan para pelaku homoseksual akan diadili atau diperlakukan secara kasar. Hingga pada akhirnya pemerintah Indonesia merumuskan UU tentang LGBT agar para pelaku LGBT tetap mendapat perlakuan baik.

Abstract

ABSTRACT People are more likely to convey their intention implicitly than explicitly. A speaker tends to use implicit message with the expectation that his or her hearer could interpret the real intention within the message. Yet, the real intention itself is not always appear clearly due to the different form of interpretation by each person (both the speaker and hearer). A speaker may convey certain meaning of his utterance then achieved differently by the hearer. This is what so called as “ambiguity” when an utterance has more than one meaning. This research aimed to identify the illocutionary acts and its types used by Miranda Priestly character in The Devil Wears Prada Film. The design of this research was descriptive qualitative. The writer collected the data from the film dialogues then classified the utterances into the categories based on the theory of illocutionary by Searle. The findings showed there were five types of illocutionary act found in this research: representative (complain, assure, and inform), directive (command and ask), commissive (promise), expressive (deploring, thank and congratulate), and declarative (disapprove and appoint). The most dominant type of illocutionary acts found in this film was directive. In directive illocutionary acts itself, command acts were dominantly used by Miranda Priestly character. Keywords: illocutionary acts, film, character ABSTRAK Pada umumnya maysyarakat cenderung menyampaikan suatu maksud dalam bentuk yang implisit daripada secara eksplisit. Seorang pembicara yang menyampaikan maksudnya secara implicit cenderung mengaharapkan bahwa pendengarnya dapat mengerti maksud implisitnya sesuai dengan apa yang ia maksudkan. Akan tetapi, arti sebenarnya dari ungkapan implisit tidak selalu nampak secara jelas bagi pendengarnya mengingat perbedaan interpretasi dari setiap orang (baik dari pembicara maupun pendengar). Pembicara mengutarakan maksudnya kepada pendengar yang kemudian dapat diartikan berbeda dari maksud asli si pembicara tersebut. Hal inilah yang sering disebut dengan “keambiguan”dimana suatu ungkapan dapat memiliki lebih dari satu arti. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi bentuk-bentuk ilokusi dan jenis-jenisnya dalam karakter Miranda Priestly difilm The Devil Wears Prada. Bentuk penelitian ini berupa deskripsi kualitatif. Penulis mengumpulkan data penelitian ini dari dialog-dialog  film The Devil Wears Prada dan kemudian mengklasifikasi ungkapan-ungkapannya kedalam teori ilokusi dari Searle. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan terdapat lima jenis dari bentuk-bentuk ilokusi dalam karakter Miranda Priestly difilm The Devil Wears Prada: representative (dalam ungkapan keluhan, pemastian, dan menginformasi), directive (dalam umgkapan perintah dan meminta), commissive (dalam ungkapan janji), expressive (dalam ungkapan menyayangkan sesuatu, berterima kasih, dan memberikan ucapan selamat), dan declarative (dalam ungkapan menolak dan memutuskan sesuatu). Jenis ilokusi yang paling mendominasi digunakan oleh karakter Miranda Priestly adalah jenis directive. Didalan ilokusi directive, karakter Miranda Priestly paling sering menggunakan ungkapan perintah.  Kata kunci: bentuk-bentuk ilokusi, film, tokoh

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the types of deixis and contexts used by Beca Mitchell character in Pitch Perfect 2 movie. In order to fulfill the two aims, this study used two theories: Levinson’s (1983) five types of deixis were used to find out the types of deixis, while Panevová and Hana’s (2011) four types of context were used to find out the types of context appeared in each utterance of Beca Mitchell character. This study was a qualitative research with content analysis as its approach. Moreover, this study used words as its data in the forms of narrations and dialogues uttered by Beca Mitchell character taken from Pitch Perfect 2 movie script. The results of this study showed there were five types of deixis used by Beca Mitchell character: person deixis (40% of first person, 23% of second person, and 6% of third person), time deixis usage as 12%, place deixis usage as 6% shown in both types: proximal and distal, discourse deixis usage as 6%, and social deixis usage as 7% shown only in the relational type that considered the closeness of relationship between Beca and her hearers. Meanwhile, there were four types of context appeared: physical, linguistic, social, and epistemic. The conclusions showed that Beca Mitchell used Levinson’s five types of deixis along with four types of context by Panevová and Hana to help her getting clearer about things she said in her utterances. As the implications, theoretically, this study was capable of giving the understanding about Levinson’s deixis and Panevová-Hana’s contexts. While practically, this study had shown that film also used deixis as its speech variety similar with the communication done in real world even though the film used in this study, Pitch Perfect 2 movie was a fiction one. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan tipe-tipe deiksis dan konteks yang digunakan oleh karakter Beca Mitchell dalam film Pitch Perfect 2. Untuk memenuhi kedua tujuan tersebut, maka penelitian ini menggunakan dua teori: lima tipe deiksis dari Levinson (1983) untuk menemukan tipe-tipe deiksis dan teori empat tipe konteks dari Panevová dan Hana (2011) untuk menemukan tipe-tipe konteks yang ada dalam tiap ujaran deiksis karakter Beca Mitchell. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisa konten. Lebih lanjut, penelitian ini menggunakan kata-kata sebagai datanya yang berupa narasi-narasi dan dialog-dialog yang diujarkan oleh karakter Beca Mitchell dalam skrip film Pitch Perfect 2. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan terdapat lima tipe deiksis yang digunakan oleh karakter Beca Mitchell: deiksis orang (40% orang pertama, 23% orang kedua, dan 6% orang ketiga), deiksis waktu sebanyak 12%, deiksis tempat sebanyak 6% dalam dua tipe: proksimal dan distal, deiksis wacana sebanyak 6%, dan deiksis sosial sebanyak 7% yang hanya muncul dalam satu tipe yaitu relasional yang mana melibatkan kedekatan hubungan antara Beca dan para lawan bicaranya. Sementara itu, terdapat empat tipe konteks yang muncul yaitu: fisikal, linguistik, sosial, dan epistemik. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa Beca Mitchell menggunakan lima tipe deiksis milik Levinson bersamaan dengan empat tipe konteks milik Panevová dan Hana untuk membantunya dalam memberikan ujaran-ujaran yang lebih jelas. Sebagai implikasi dari penelitian ini yaitu secara teori bahwa penelitian ini dapat memberikan pengertian tentang deiksis milik Levinson serta konteks dari Panevová dan Hana. Secara praktik, penelitian ini telah membuktikan bahwa film juga menggunakan deiksis sebagai variasi bentuk ujarannya yang hakikinya juga sama dengan komunikasi yang dilakukan dalam dunia nyata terlepas dari fakta bahwa film yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, Pitch Perfect 2 merupakan fiksi.

Abstract

Novel Berteman Dengan Kematian merupakan novel yang berisikan seorang wanita terkena lupus. Keberadaan disebagian masyarakat memberikan nilai yang positif dan memiliki daya tarik tersendiri. Salah satunya adalah Novel Berteman Dengan Kematian Karya Sinta Ridwan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan struktur dan kepribadian tokoh utama dalam novel Berteman Dengan Kematian Karya Sinta Ridwan. Penelitian ini akan mendeskripsikan kepribadian tokoh utama di dalam novel Berteman Dengan Kematian. Data yang dikumpulkan semata-mata bersifat deskriptif sehingga tidak bermaksud mencari penjelasan, menguji hipotesis, membuat prediksi, maupun mempelajari implikasi. Hasil Penelitian menunjukan bahwa kepribadian tokoh utama yang terkandung dalam novel Berteman Dengan Kematian Karya Sinta Ridwan adalah pertama approach-approach Sinta Bimbang harus memilih kuliah atau menikah. Abstract

This research concerned on the deconstruction of characters in Gilman’s The Yellow Wallpaper short story in which the aim was to describe deconstruction toward the characters of the story. The method in this research was qualitative. Then for the data in this research were quotations such as words, texts, or narrations that were obtained from The Yellow Wallpaper short story. Furthermore, for the analysis, this research was focused to analyze the story by using Derrida’s deconstruction theory. In this research, the researcher analyzed three characters through binary oppositions in which arising the opposite views of the previously fixed views. The findings showed that there were ten characteristics of the narrator that were opposite each other, six from John and two from Jennie. From the fixed views, the narrator was considered as an isolated woman, inferior and weak woman, mad woman, even imaginative woman, however after they were deconstructed the narrator precisely was also proven as a free woman, superior woman, strong woman, normal woman, even realistic woman. Then John who was considered as a bad husband, superior and strong man, apparently after the characteristics were deconstructed he was also a very good husband, inferior man and weak man. Likewise, Jennie who was originally considered a good and perfect woman, apparently she could be considered as a bad woman. Penelitian ini berkonsentrasi pada dekonstruksi dari karakter-karakter yang ada didalam cerpen The Yellow Wallpaper-nya Gilman yang mana tujuannya adalah untuk menggambarkan dekonstruksi terhadap karakter-karakter dari cerita tersebut. Metode dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif. Kemudian, untuk data dalam penelitian ini adalah kutipan-kutipan seperti kata-kata, teks-teks, atau narasi-narasi yang diambil dari cerpen The Yellow Wallpaper. Selanjutnya, untuk analis, penelitian ini difokuskan untuk menganalisa cerita tersebut dengan menggunakan teori dekonstruksinya Derrida. Didalam penelitian ini, peneliti menganalisis tiga karakter melalui oposisi-oposisi biner yang mana memunculkan pandangan-pandangan yang sebaliknya dari pandangan yang sudah ditetapkan sebelumnya. Temuan-temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada sepuluh karakteristik dari narrator yang saling berkontradiksi, enam dari John, dan dua dari Jennie. Berdasarkan pandangan-pandangan yang sudah ditetapkan, narrator dianggap sebagai seorang perempuan yang terkekang dan terpenjara, inferior dan lemah, perempuan gila, bahkan perempuan pengimajinasi, namun setelah mereka semua didekonstruksi ternyata narrator juga justru terbukti sebagai seorang perempuan yang bebas, superior dan kuat, perempuan normal, bahkan perempuan yang realistis. Kemudian John yang dianggap sebagai seorang suami yang jahat, superior dan kuat, ternyata setelah didekonstruksi dia juga terbukti sebagai seorang suami yang baik, inferior dan lemah. Begitupun juga, Jennie yang mana sebelumnya dianggap sebagai seorang perempuan yang baik dan sempurna, ternyata setelah didekonstruksi dia bisa menjadi dianggap sebagai seorang perempuan yang jahat.

Abstract

The purpose of this research to (1) describe the factual structure in the novel Prahara Cinta Alia by Arif YS and (2) describe the personality of the main character in the novel Prahara Cinta Alia by Arif YS. The research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. The research has data in the form of words and quotes, while the data source in the research is the novel Prahara Cinta Alia by Arif YS. Data collection methods and techniques used in reading techniques and recorded techniques using instruments. The data analysis technique used in this study is data reduction, data presentation, and making conclusions. The results of this study refer to the structural elements of the novel which are intrinsic and extrinsic and the personality changes of the main characters in the novel Prahra Cinta Alia by Arif YS.

Abstract

The concern of this study was about the archetypal characters of men characters who transformed into women as portrayed by Toom of Beautiful Boxer and Kevin & Marcus of White Chicks films. This study used Jung’s four major archetypes to find out the types of archetype portrayed by the three men characters and their similarities and differences toward each other. Qualitative research was the research design of this study. The data used in this study were words (narrations and dialogues) related to Toom character taken from the English Subtitle of Beautiful Boxer film and Kevin & Marcus characters of White Chicks film script. This study found the archetypes portrayed by Toom of Beautiful Boxer film were persona, shadow, and anima. Meanwhile, the archetypes of persona and anima were portrayed by Kevin and Marcus of White Chicks film. The similarity of archetype portrayed by Toom, Kevin, and Marcus was that their anima archetype existing from another archetype which led to the difference among the three of them. Toom’s anima was the result of his growing shadow containing his oppressed desire of becoming a real woman, while Kevin and Marcus’ anima came from their persona archetype related to their mission of pretending as women. Based on these findings, this study concluded that shadow archetype affected Toom’s decision of transforming into woman, while persona affected Kevin and Marcus’.

Abstract

The occurrence of language variations is not only caused by diverse speakers, but because the social interaction activities carried out are also very diverse. In this case there is a connection with the emergence of languages used by overseas students, and usually these languages appear in their activities on campus. The use of the first language and dialect that affect their language conditions, resulting in incomplete use of the Indonesian language. However, regional languages are also not the only concrete evidence that there are variations in language that occur among overseas students. But the emergence of several variations of the language used by overseas students. This study aims to describe the language variations and factors that cause variations in the language of foreign students in Indonesian Literature class of 2014 at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Mulawarman University. This research includes field research using qualitative descriptive methods. The research method used is the method of referring to the technique of observation, record, and note, while the method of proficiency with a fishing line and proficient techniques. The method used to analyze the data in this study is the padan method using the basic technique of PUP (sorting determinants). The results showed that the language used by students of Indonesian Literature nomads in 2014 at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Mulawarman University varied greatly. Language variations in terms of speakers, variations in language in terms of usage, variations in language in terms of formality, and variations in language in terms of means. The factors that cause variations in the language of foreign students in the 2014 Indonesian Literature Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Mulawarman University are social factors and situational factors. Social (environmental) and situational factors (linguistic and kinship situations).

Abstract

Hush, Hush was a young adult fantasy novel written by Becca Fitzpatrick which told the journey of Fallen Angel named Patch. There were two problems of study, they were: what forms of archetype are appeared in Patch’s personality and how is the main character  described in Hush, Hush novel. The purposes of this study were decribed the archetype forms are appeared in Patch Personality and describes the main character personality in Hush, Hush novel. Qualitative Reseach was used to interpretating all phenomena’s and issues related Patch personality. The researcher applied this research as literaty criticism since the researcher was the key intruments it self  in analysis and interpretation on literary work. Carl Jung Gustav theory about archetype was used as the main theory to describe and analyze the main character. The data of this study were collected from Hush, Hush novel by Becca Fitzpatrick. The result of this study showed six forms of archetype were appeared in main character’s personality, there were the persona, the shadow, the anima and animus, the great mother, the wise old man and the self and two characters personality of main character, such as myterious and ambitious.

Abstract

ABSTRAKLagu mempunyai arti yang cukup luas dan lagu merupakan bagian dari salah satu sekian banyak hasil karya sastra yang dapat dikaji dari beberapa aspek. Hal ini menjadi latar belakang dalam penelitian yang berjudul Lirik Lagu Jonan Ma?dang Suku Dayak Kenyah Lepu Ma?u Desa Long Beluah (Kajian Struktural dan Makna). Penelitian analisis lirik lagu karya Timai Udau menganalisis pada aspek struktural puisi yaitu struktur fisik dan batin serta makna dalam lirik lagu. Struktur batin meliputi tema, perasaan (feeling), nada, dan amanat. Struktur fisik meliputi diksi, imajinasi, kata konkret, dan bahasa figuratif. Tujuan peneltian ini adalah untuk (1)mendeskripsikan aspek struktur fisik yang meliputi diksi dan gaya bahasa serta struktur batin meliputi tema, rasa, nada, dan amanat dalam lirik lagu karya Timai Udau; (2)mendeskripsikan makna dalam lirik lagu Jonan Ma?dang. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif yang mendeskrispsikan atau menjelaskan suatu masalah yang sesuai dengan permasalahan yang ada pada penelitian ini, yaitu  gambaran tentang struktural pada lirik lagu Jonan Ma?dang dan teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan, yaitu dengan menentukan objek kajian berupa lirik lagu, mencatat hal-hal penting yang diharapakan dapat menemukan hal-hal penting, mencatat refrensi yang berkaitan dan memasukan data yang diperoleh. Hasil penelitian dalam struktural, struktur batin: tema (senses), rasa (feeling), amanat (intention) dan struktur fisik meliputi: diksi, pengimajian, kata konkret, bahasa figuratif/majas. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa penelitian lirik lagu sangat penting  karena didalamnya mengandung beberapa struktur atau unsur-unsur. Kata Kunci: Lirik Lagu, struktural, Makna
