Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan simbol-simbol dan makna dalam tradisi mappasikarawa pernikahan suku Bugis di Sebatik Nunukan. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian lapangan dan pendekatan kualitatif. Data dan sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah informan sebagai sumber memperoleh data. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah teknik observasi, wawancara, dan rekaman. Teknik analisis data menggunakan teknik analisis secara makna denotatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam tradisi mappasikarawa terdapat beberapa makna simbolik, pertama simbol-simbol yang terdapat dalam tradisi mappasikarawa yaitu, jempol/ibu jari, jabat tangan, pangkal lengan, hidung, leher, dada, telinga, perut, dan ubun-ubun. Kedua, makna melalui teori makna yaitu makna denotatif. Semua simbol tersebut memiliki makna yang sangat erat hubungannya dengan kehidupan dan aktivitas sehari-hari masyarakat Bugis. Masyarakt Bugis yakin bahwa simbol dalam tradisi mappasikarawa tersebut merupakan makna yang sakral.Kata kunci: tradisi, mappasikarawa, makna  ABSTRACT This study aims to describe the symbols and meaning in the tradition of marriage mappasikarawa Bugis tribe in Sebatik Nunukan. The type of research used is field research and qualitative approach. Data and data sources in this study are informants as a source of data. Data collection techniques used were observation, interview, and recording techniques. Data analysis technique using analysis technique with denotative mean. The results showed that in mappasikarawa tradition there are some symbolic meanings, first the symbols contained in mappasikarawa tradition that is, thum, handshake, arm base, nose, neck, chest, ear, stomach, and crown. Second, meaning through the theory of meaning is denotative meaning. All of these symbols have meaning that is very closely related to the life and daily activities of Bugis society. The Bugis community is convinced that the symbol in the mappasikarawa tradition is a sacred meaning.Keywords: tradition, mappasikarawa, meaning

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas tentang makna pemali dalam masyarakat etnik Banjar yang berada di Kota Samarinda. Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini ialah untuk mengetahui pemali apa saja yang dilaksanakan dan tidak dilaksanakan oleh masyarakat etnik Banjar dan menentukan makna terkandung di dalam budaya pemali masyarakat etnik Banjar.Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif dan termasuk dalam jenis penelitian lapangan. Data penelitian ini berupa budaya pemali yang diperoleh dari observasi dengan informan yang mengetahui dan masih melaksanakan budaya pemali yang berada di kota Samarinda. Data dikumpulkan dengan metode wawancara, rekam dan catat. Data dianalisis dengan teknik reduksi data, transkrip data, dan penyajian data.Hasil dari penelitian ini berupa temuan makna pemali dengan menggunakan teori semiotika yang dilihat dari makna denotatif atau pemaknaan tingkat satu yaitu makna sebenarnya atau sesuai dengan kamus, konotatif atau pemaknaan tingkat dua yaitu merupakan bentuk akibat yang menjadi tanda, serta akan menjadi mitos yang sekaligus menjadi simbol budaya Banjar. Penelitian ini mengumpulkan lima puluh pemali yang terbagi menjadi dua yaitu, pemali yang tidak dilaksanakan dan pemali yang dilaksanakan. This study discussed the meanings of pamali in Banjar ethnic living in Samarinda City. It aimed to find out the types of pamali performed and not performed by the Banjar ethnic community and to determine the meanings contained in the pamali according to the culture of Banjar ethnic society. This study applied a qualitative approach with the descriptive method and it was categorized as a field study. The data of this research were in the forms of pamali culture obtained from the informants who understood and still performed the pamali culture existing in Samarinda City. The data were collected through interview, recording, and note-taking. The data were analyzed by using data reduction, data transcription, and data display. The findings of this study were in the forms of pamali with their meanings by using a semiotic theory which was seen from their denotative meanings or the first level of meaning analysis, namely the real meaning or the meaning according to the dictionary. Their connotative meaning of the second level of meaning analysis was the effects which were in the forms of signs, and they would become myths and symbols of Banjar culture. This study collected 50 pamali which were divided into two types, the pamali which were not performed and those which were performed.

Abstract

This study aims to describe facts of story, ideological formations, and hegemony found in Arafat Nur's Tanah Surga Merah novel. Operational definitions in this study use three variables, that is the facts of story, the formation of ideology, and hegemony according to Antonio Gramsci. This research is a qualitative research with descriptive method based on the design of literature sociology. The data source in this study is Arafat Nur's Tanah Surga Merah novel. The data collection technique used is the technique of reading and recording. Qualitative analysis techniques that consist of three activities, that is: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. Based on the results of the analysis it can be concluded several things. First, the story facts in the Tanah Surga Merah novel by Arafat Nur consist of plot, character, and background. The plot in this novel is an chronological plot. The characters in this novel have roles as main characters and additional figures. Broadly speaking the background contained in the novel is in Aceh. The time of storytelling that happened was when Murad returned to his homeland, when Murad was wanted by the ruling party in the Aceh region, and when Murad became an escape in his pursuit as a fugitive. While the social setting that occurs in the novel is a society that is obedient and under the full power of the ruling party in its territory. The ideological formation contained in the novel is authoritarianism represented by full power held by the authorities, feudalism represented by the red party apparatus, and socialism represented by opponents of power who care about society. The hegemony that occurs in the realm of political society is illustrated through conflicts between parties and party apparatus against opponents of power and society. In the area of civil society, it is portrayed through the influence that the authorities have invested in the people of Aceh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan fakta cerita, formasi ideologi, dan hegemoni yang terdapat di dalam novel Tanah Surga Merah karya Arafat Nur. Definisi operasional dalam penelitian ini menggunakan tiga variabel, yaitu fakta cerita, formasi ideologi, dan hegemoni menurut Antonio Gramsci. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif berdasarkan rancangan kajian sosiologi sastra. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah novel Tanah Surga Merah karya Arafat Nur. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah teknik baca dan catat. Teknik analisis kualitatif yang terdiri dari tiga alur kegiatan, yaitu: reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis dapat disimpulkan beberapa hal. Pertama, fakta cerita dalam novel Tanah Surga Merah karya Arafat Nur terdiri atas alur, tokoh-penokohan, dan latar. Alur dalam novel ini adalah alur maju. Tokoh-tokoh dalam novel ini mempunyai peranan sebagai tokoh utama maupun tokoh tambahan. Secara garis besar latar yang terdapat dalam novel berada di Aceh. Waktu penceritaan yang terjadi adalah ketika Murad kembali menuju tanah kelahirannya, ketika Murad buronan partai yang berkuasa di wilayah Aceh, dan saat Murad menjadi pelarian dalam pengejarannya sebagai buronan. Sedangkan latar sosial yang terjadi di dalam novel adalah masyarakat yang patuh dan di bawah kuasa penuh partai yang berkuasa di wilayahnya. Formasi ideologi yang terdapat di dalam novel adalah otoritarianisme yang diwakili oleh kekuasaan penuh yang dipegang oleh penguasa, feodalisme yang diwakili oleh aparatur partai merah, dan sosialisme yang diwakili oleh para penentang kekuasaan yang peduli terhadap masyarakat. Hegemoni yang terjadi dalam wilayah masyarakat politik digambarkan melalui konflik antara partai dan aparatur partai terhadap penentang kekuasaan dan masyarakat. Dalam wilayah masyarakat sipil digambarkan melalui pengaruh yang ditanamkan penguasa terhadap masyarakat Aceh.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aimed to find out the types and functions of illocutionary acts produced by Peter Quill as the main character in Guardians of the Galaxy movie. The design of this research was descriptive qualitative. The researcher collected the data from Peter Quill’s dialogues and analyzed them by using Miles’ and Huberman’s interactive model source as the process of data analysis. The findings showed that there were four types of illocutionary acts found in Peter Quill’s utterances along with its functions: representatives (informing, notifying, reminding and asserting), directives (asking, requesting, telling, suggesting, ordering, forbidding, advising, and commanding), commissives (refusing and promising) and expressives (complimenting and complaining). Keywords: pragmatic, speech act, illocutionary acts ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan tipe-tipe dan fungsi-fungsi dari tindak tutur ilokusi yang terdapat pada karakter utama film Guardians of the Galaxy, yaitu Peter Quill.Bentuk penelitian ini termasuk dalam penelitian kualitatif deskripsi. Penulis mengumpulkan data-data yang diperlukan dalam penelitian ini dari dialog-dialog Peter Quill dan menganalisisnya dengan menggunakan proses analisis data dari Miles dan Huberman, interactive model source. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat empat jenis ilokusi milik Searle yang digunakan oleh karakter Peter Quill dalam semua ujarannya beserta fungsi masing-masing dari tipe-tipe ilokusi tersebut: representative (dalam ungkapan menginformasi, memberitahu, mengingatkan, dan menegaskan), directives (dalam ungkapan bertanya, meminta, menceritakan, menyarankan, meminta untuk melakukan sesuatu, melarang, memberi nasihat, dan memberi perintah), commissives (dalam ungkapan menolak dan berjanji), dan expressives (dalam ungkapan memberikan pujian dan mengeluh).  Kata Kunci: pragmatik, tindak tutur, bentuk-bentuk ilokusi

Abstract

This study concerns with Self-Actualization in The Giver novel. Aiming to find the character and personality of Jonas through the Self-Actualization described in the novel. The source of data is taken from The Giver novel by Lois Lowry. This study used Self-Actualization theory by Abraham Maslow. The researchers was employed that Jonas has bravery, sensitive feelings, and intelligence. The results of this research showed that self-actualization found in Jonas are: 1) objective perception, (2) general acceptance of nature, others and oneself, (3) spontaneity, simplicity, and naturalness behaving, (4) needs for privacy and independence, (5) autonomous functioning, (6) freshness of appreciation, (7) mystical or “peak” experiences, (8) concern in social interest, (9) interpersonal relations, (10) recognize discrimination between means and ends, good and evil, (11) present creativeness. When Jonas gets the memories from The Giver, then he shows his self-actualization. The memories open up his mind to think, and to realize that the real world is much beautiful with the difference between one and another. Thus, Jonas is a dynamic character. From Jonas self-actualization, he tries to recognize his own self, develop his ability, his personal uniqueness, and to actualize his potentials as a human being that capable of becoming what he wants to achieve.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Maleficent movie (2014) a movie directed by Robert Stromberg and written by Linda Woolverton. This movie adapted from Sleeping Beauty animation version in 1959. Maleficent movie tells about the human Kingdom and the Moors Kingdom that have never be peace. This research focused on analyzing a portrayal of a witch as heroine through Maleficent character. The purposes of this research were to analyze kind of witch characteristics portrayed through Maleficent character in Maleficent movie, and to analyze Maleficent character portrayed as a heroine in Maleficent movie. This research was a qualitative research. This research used two theories. The first is witch theory by Julian Goodare and the second one is hero theory by Kendra Cherry. The results of the research showed, that Maleficent character in Maleficent movie (2014) evil and good side. There are four concepts of witch such as demonic, village, folkloric, and envisioned witch. Maleficent movie goes into the folkloric witch category. There are seventh elements of hero, which Maleficent character as a heroine in Maleficent movie. First, people who become heroes tend to be concerned with the well being of others. Second, heroes are good at seeing from the perspective of others. Third, heroes are competent and confident. Fourth, heroes have a strong moral compass. Fifth, heroes have right skills. Sixth, heroes persist even in the face of fear, and keep working on their goals. The second result showed that Maleficent character is a heroine. Keywords: hero, Maleficent, portrayal, witch  ABSTRAK Film Maleficent (2014) adalah sebuah film yang disutradarai oleh Robert Stromberg dan ditulis oleh Linda Woolverton, film ini diadaptasi dari Sleeping Beauty versi animasi pada tahun 1959. Film Maleficent (2014) menceritakan tentang kerajaan Manusia dan kerajaan Moors yang tidak pernah berdamai. Penelitian ini fokus menganalisa penggambaran seorang wanita penyihir sebagai pahlawan melalui karakter Maleficent. Tujuan penelitian ini menganalisa jenis penggambaran karakteristik penyihir melalui karakter Maleficent di dalam film Maleficent. Penelitian ini merupakan penelirian kualitatif. Penelitian ini menggunaka dua teori. Yang pertama teori penyihir oleh Julian Goodare dan yang kedua teori pahlawan oleh Kendra Cheery. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa, yang pertama karakter Maleficent dalam film Maleficent (2014) sebagai seorang penyihir yang mempunyai sisi jahat dan baik. Ada empat konsep penyihir seperti demonic, village, folkloric, dan envisioned. Berdasarkan keempat konsep tersebut, film Maleficent masuk dalam kategori penyihir folkloric. Ada tujuh elemen kepahlawanan, dimana karakter Maleficent sebagai seorang pahlawan didalam film Maleficent (2014). Pertama, orang yang menjadi pahlawan cenderung memperhatikan kesejahteraan orang lain. Kedua, pahlawan pandai melihat sesuatu dari sudut pandang orang lain. Ketiga, pahlawan percaya diri. Keempat, pahlawan memiliki kompas moral yang kuat. Kelima, memiliki keterampilan. Keenam, pahlawan terus menghadapi ketakutan dan yang ketuju, pahlawan terus mengerjakan tujuan mereka, bahkan setelah menghadapi beberapa kemunduran. Kata kunci: pahlawan, Maleficent, penggambaran, penyihir

Abstract

The development of a person’s second language is strongly influenced by the way in which the stages of his acquisition, through formal or informal activities. Based on this, problems are formulated to determine lexicon acquisition, phonology, and factors that influence second language acquisition. This research was included in the field research using a qualitative approach which was described descriptively. The data source in this research is Yudika Adya Tama, Wahyu Almira Dika, Ludfia, Anjani, Moh. Farid, and Ikrima Faiz Hafidz. The data source is based third-grade elementary school students 011 Sebulu as Kutai Kartanegara district which only had two languages. The results of the research indicate that data sources have been able to mention several second language lexicons. However, in terms of the acquisition of phonology, several lexicons (Indonesian language or English language) were found whose pronunciation still received transfers from the first language. As for the factors that influence the second language acquisition of third-grade elementary school students 011 Sebulu are (a) motivational factors, (b) age factors, (c) formal presentation factors, (d) first language factors, and (e) environmental factors. Perkembangan bahasa kedua (B2) seseorang sangat dipengaruhi oleh cara pada tahapan pemerolehannya, baik melalui kegiatan formal maupun informal. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, dirumuskan masalah untuk mengetahui pemerolehan leksikon, fonologi, dan faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi pemerolehan bahasa kedua (B2). Penelitian ini termasuk dalam penelitian lapangan dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif yang dipaparkan secara deskriptif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah Yudika Adya Tama, Wahyu Almira Dika, Ludfia, Anjani, Moh. Farid, dan Ikrima Faiz Hafidz. Sumber data berdasarkan siswa kelas III SDN 011 Sebulu Kabupaten Kutai Kartanegara yang hanya memperoleh dua bahasa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sumber data telah dapat menyebutkan beberapa leksikon bahasa kedua (B2). Namun, dari segi pemerolehan fonologi ditemukan beberapa leksikon (bahasa Indonesia atau pun bahasa Inggris) yang pengucapannya masih mendapatkan transfer dari bahasa pertama (B1). Adapun faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi pemerolehan bahasa kedua pada siswa kelas III SDN 011 Sebulu adalah (a) faktor motivasi, (b) faktor usia, (c) faktor penyajian formal, (d) faktor bahasa pertama, dan (e) faktor lingkungan.

Abstract

Commonly, parents decide to have children to complete their live as part of their family. Then, how about the parents who have another reason with the presence of their children? It can make the children to have different thinking with other and it can make the children wonder about their true status or identity in family. It is because parents and their children do not have the similar purpose in their family. This situation happened in My Sister’s Keeper novel. The researcher choose to analyse Anna Fitzgerald in the novel because the life of family in My Sister’s Keeper novel was not like other family in general. The researcher analysed Anna Fitzgerald’s character through two theories to find out her identity. Erikson’s psychosocial development in the fifth stage was used to analyse of how Anna Fitzgerald got through the development as thirteen years old children in defining her own identity, successfully or not. It was because this stage discusses about the process of finding the true identity. Meanwhile, the researcher used Bowlby’s attachment theory to analyse of Anna’s relationship with her mother. Also, in this theory, the researcher only used one characteristic (proximity maintenance) to know about factor that influence of Anna’s position in Erikson’s fifth stage. This research was aimed to find out about the identity in fifth stage of psychosocial development of a child who lived uncommon situation and the factor that influenced her identity. The result of this research showed that Anna psychosocially experienced role confusion because she failed to know about her true identity. This situation influenced Anna’s relationship with her mother. As a result, she did not have fidelity as her basic virtue. Anna did not get the sense of safety and comfort from her relationship with Sara, as mother-daughter relationship.  Key words: Psychosocial Development, Attachment Theory

Abstract

This research aimed to reveal the characters’ personality traits by reference to Costa and McCrae (1992) through one of the characterization devices called soliloquy and knowing about the role of characters soliloquy in A Midsummer Night’s Dream drama. The method of this research was qualitative content analysis. The data of this research were the characters’ soliloquies in the drama. After analyzing, the result showed that soliloquies had important roles in A Midsummer Night’s Dream drama. The roles were to reveal about the characters development and the drama plot; although there was no narration in the drama, but soliloquies could show and describe the characters’ personality traits, each character had one till five personality traits through telling their true thoughts and intentions by using soliloquies in A Midsummer Night’s Dream drama. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memaparkan ciri-ciri kepribadian berdasarkan teori Costa dan McCrae (1992) melalui salah satu jenis karakterisasi yaitu solilokui sekaligus untuk mengetahui peranan solilokui pada karakter dalam drama A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Metode yang digunakan untuk penelitian ini adalah kualitatif konten analisis. Data yang digunakan berupa solilokui dari tiap-tiap karakter di dalam drama. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa solilokui  memiliki peran penting pada drama A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Peran penting solilokui di dalam drama tersebut adalah untuk mengungkapkan perkembangan karakter dan jalan cerita; meski tidak ada narasi namun solilokui dapat menunjukkan dan menjelaskan ciri-ciri kepribadian karakter di dalam drama. Masing-masing karakter memiliki satu hingga lima ciri-ciri kepribadian melalui penyampaian pola pikir dan tujuan mereka yang sebenarnya melalui penggunaan solilokui di drama A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Abstract

There were two objectives in this study. First was to find out the types of social action performed by Peter Parker both as himself and his other identity as the hero, Spider-Man. In this objective, Weber’s types of social action was used to find out Peter Parker’s types of social action. Meanwhile, the second was to explore the way Peter Parker behaved in his front-stage as the Spider-Man and in his back-stage as his true self. Goffman’s dramaturgy theory was used to explore Peter Parker’s behaviours in his front and back stages. The form of this study was a qualitative research for this study used words as its data taken from Spider-Man 1 (2002) film script. The result of this study showed that there were four types of social action performed by Peter Parker and his behaviours during the two stages were based on his two different identites, as the real Peter Parker and as the Spider-Man. Peter Parker performed four types of Weber’s social action: (1) rational instrumental social action; (2) rational value social action; (3) affective social action; and (4) traditional social actions. Peter Parker’s behaviours were divided according to which stage he was playing at the moment. In his front-stage, Peter Parker behaved according to his role as the hero, Spider-Man. While, in his back-stage, Peter Parker behaved as his real and usual self, the photographer. Terdapat dua tujuan dalam penelitian ini. Pertama untuk mencari tahu mengenai tipe-tipe tindakan sosial yang dilakukan oleh Peter Parker baik sebagai dirinya sendiri maupun sebagai seorang pahlawan bernama Spider-Man. Dalam tujuan yang pertama, teori Weber mengenai tipe-tipe tindakan sosial digunakan untuk mencari tahu tipe-tipe tindakan sosial apa yang dilakukan oleh Peter Parker. Disisi lain, tujuan yang kedua yaitu untuk mengekplorasi bagaimana Peter Parker berperilaku dalam front-stage (panggung depan) sebagai Spider-Man dan back-stage (panggung belakang) sebagai dirinya sendiri. Teori dramaturgi milik Goffman digunakan untuk mengeksplorasi perilaku Peter Parker dalam dua panggung miliknya, panggung depan dan belakang. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang menggunakan kata-kata sebagai datanya yang diambil dari skrip film Spider-Man 1 (2002). Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan terdapat empat tipe tindakan sosial yang dilakukan oleh Peter Parker dan bentuk perilakunya berdasarkan dua identitas berbeda yang dimiliki Peter Parker yaitu sebagai Peter Parker yang biasanya dan sebagai si pahlawan Spider-Man. Peter Parker melakukan empat tipe tindakan sosial seperti yang dijelaskan oleh Weber: (1) tindakan sosial instrumental rasional; (2) tindakan sosial nilai rasional; (3) tindakan sosial afektif; dan (4) tindakan sosial tradisional. Perilaku Peter Parker dibagi berdasarkan panggung mana yang akan ia mainkan perannya. Di panggung depannya, Peter Parker berperilaku sesuai dengan perannya sebagai si pahlawan Spider-Man. Sementara itu, di panggung belakangnya, Peter Parker berperilaku sebagai dirinya yang biasanya dam sebagai seorang fotografer.
