Abstract

This study focuses on the calculation and analysis of balanced loads in the 20 kV distribution system, specifically Feeder 8 in the Gleno Distribution Transformer, East Timor. The research aims to address the issue of load imbalance, which leads to voltage drops and power losses in the distribution network. Data were collected from eight transformers in the Gleno area, and simulations were conducted using ETAP 12.6 to analyze voltage, current, and power losses. The results indicate significant imbalances in load distribution, particularly during peak hours, resulting in neutral currents and energy losses. Recommendations are provided to improve load balancing and enhance the efficiency of the distribution system.

Abstract

Heart disease and kidney failure are both increased by dyslipidemia. There are a lot of antioxidant and nephroprotective chemicals in just one clove of garlic (Allium sativum L.), including allicin, flavonoids, and organosulfur compounds. This study set out to examine the effects of a single garlic extract on the urea, creatinine, and uric acid levels in rats with dyslipidemia (Rattus norvegicus). There was an examination of the renal histopathology picture as well. This research used an experimental tack by using a control group design with pre- and post-tests. Each of the four groups consisted of 24 male Wistar rats' tails: the control group (aquades), the experimental group (simvastatin 2.1 mg/kgBB), the garlic extract alone group (200 mg/kgBB), and the highest dose (400 mg/kgBB). Each group followed a high-fat diet for a full month. Both the 200 mg/kgBB and 400 mg/kgBB doses of garlic extract significantly decreased the levels of ureum, creatinine, and uric acid (p<0.05) as compared to the negative control group. Kidney histopathology also revealed improvement, with less congestion, necrosis, and cell death. The positive control and the 400 mg/kgBB group showed similar effects after delivery. Rats with dyslipidemia showed improvements in renal histology and decreased levels of ureum, creatinine, and uric acid after administration of a single garlic extract.

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global health problem with a high economic burden and significant mortality. In Indonesia, the prevalence of CKD continues to rise, while cardiometabolic factors such as hypertension and diabetes, as well as certain infections (e.g., hepatitis B), are thought to contribute to disease progression in young adults. To determine the association between age, sex, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and hepatitis B with CKD stage, and to identify the most influential factors in young adult patients. This was a retrospective study of medical records from patients aged 19-44 years at Rasyida Kidney Specialty Hospital, Medan, in 2024 (total sampling; n = 121). The dependent variable was CKD stage (stages 4-5). Univariate analysis was performed to describe patient characteristics; bivariate analysis (Fisher’s exact test) was used to assess the association between each factor and CKD stage; and multivariate logistic regression was used to determine independent predictors of advanced CKD. Of the 121 patients, 57% (69) were male, and the majority were aged 33-44 years (62.8%, n = 76). Stage 2 hypertension was present in 55.4% (67) of patients. A history of diabetes was found in 22.3% (27), with 18.2% (22) classified as prediabetic. Hepatitis B was identified in 10.7% (13). Bivariate analysis showed significant associations between CKD stage and hypertension (p < 0.001), diabetes (p < 0.001), and hepatitis B (p = 0.004), but no significant associations for sex (p = 0.052) or age (p > 0.05). Multivariate regression confirmed hypertension (p < 0.001), diabetes (p < 0.001), and hepatitis B (p= 0.033) as independent predictors of advanced CKD. In young adults, CKD stage is strongly associated with hypertension particularly stage 2 as well as diabetes mellitus and hepatitis B, while age and sex show no significant association. These findings highlight the importance of blood pressure screening and control, strict glycemic management, and hepatitis B treatment to slow CKD progression. Further studies are recommended to include lifestyle and metabolic factors such as BMI, dyslipidemia, salt intake, smoking, family history, and treatment adherence.

Abstract

Abstract

Gait, or walking pattern, is influenced by age, health condition, and neuromuscular function. Aging often leads to reduced walking speed, stability, and symmetry, which increases the risk of falls and decreases quality of life. Acupuncture, based on traditional meridian theory, has been investigated as a complementary intervention to improve gait function. This study is a systematic review conducted under PRISMA guidelines. Literature searches were performed in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Scopus using keywords related to acupuncture and gait. Inclusion criteria were experimental studies on humans with acupuncture point stimulation, while studies on animals and those without details of acupuncture points were excluded. The results suggest that acupuncture may improve walking speed, stride length, and cadence. Positive effects were observed in older adults and patients with neurological disorders. Proposed mechanisms include modulation of the nervous system and connective tissue interactions. However, heterogeneity in study design and acupuncture point selection limits the generalizability of findings. In conclusion, acupuncture shows potential as a complementary therapy to enhance gait function in aging and neurological conditions, although larger standardized clinical trials are still needed.
