Abstract

Background: Currently, Indonesia is one of the countries affected by the Korean "fever" due to the Korean wave's globalization through the media. The content of K-pop which displays model characteristics that are identical to a slender body, tall, and attractive, can lead to adolescent body image perception. The problem most often experienced by adolescents is physical appearance. The negative body image in adolescence could encourage the emergence of eating behavior disorders known as eating disorders. Objective: To analyze the relation between Korean wave exposure through media information with body image and eating disorders risk in female high school students in Yogyakarta. Methods: This research used the cross-sectional method with a quantitative approach. The research population was female first-grade high school students in Yogyakarta. The subjects of 109 female students who are qualified with the inclusion criteria: enrolled students in the selected schools, physically healthy, and willing to take part in the research; are requested to fill out the Korean wave exposure questionnaire to measure the type and frequency of exposure, the Contour Drawing Rating Scale questionnaire to measure the body image, and the Eating Attitude Test 26 to determine the eating disorders risk. Data were analyzed with the Chi-Square test and logistic regression test. Results: Univariate analysis showed that 11% of the subject was exposed to Korean wave with various type of exposure, 88.1% of the issue was dissatisfied with their body and developed negative body image, and 47.7% of the issue was at risk of eating disorders; 53% of them tend to developed diet behavior, 21.04% bulimia, and 25.96% was in oral intake restriction. The multivariate analysis showed that Korean wave exposure (RP=1.6; 95%CI=0.7-10.04) correlates significantly with negative body image perception. Eating disorders risk significantly affected by Korean wave exposure (RP=2.1; 95%CI=0.97-4.63) and body image (RP=2.93; 95%CI=1.25-5.49). Chi-Square analysis showed body image significantly correlates with eating disorders risk (RP=6.2; 95%CI=1.25-5.94). Conclusions: Exposure to Korean waves affected negative body image in female adolescents. On the other hand, Korean wave exposure and body image also affected eating disorder behavior among female adolescents.* Presented at the International Nutrition and Health Symposium (INHESION) on Sunday, November 15th, 2020, in Yogyakarta, organized by HIMAGIKA and the Department of Health Nutrition, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, Universitas Gadjah Mada

Abstract

Protein intake, zinc intake, and zinc deficiency in underweight female students attending Islamic Boarding School in IndonesiaBackground: One of the nutritional issues in Indonesia is underweight. Groups of teenage girls tend to have underweight especially female students (santriwati) who live far from their parents. It happens due to a lack of macronutrients and micronutrients, zinc deficiency. Zinc deficiency impacts are reproductive disorders, stunted growth, fatigue, and loss of appetite. Objective: Analyzing the differences in zinc levels, protein, and zinc intakes between female students with underweight and normal nutritional status. Methods: An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design in Askhabul Kahfi Islamic Boarding School with 24 underweight female students selected by consecutive sampling and 24 normal nutritional status female students were selected by matching techniques based on age. Data included nutritional status assessed by BMI for age z-score, protein and zinc intakes assessed by Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire, and zinc levels were tested using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry. The data analyses used Mann-Whitney test. Results: Underweight female students had lower average protein intake than normal nutritional status female students (52.20±25.06 and 75.52±23.19 grams) as well as zinc intake (4.63±1.22 and 7.51±1.94 grams). Protein and zinc intake were significantly different, but the two groups did not differ in zinc levels. All subjects had a normal zinc level of 100%. Conclusions: There was a difference in protein and zinc intake between underweight and normal nutritional female students (p<0.001), while the zinc levels were not found any differences (p=0.773).

Abstract

Dietitians’ perception of the implementation of the nutrition care process (NCP) in IndonesiaBackground: The nutrition care process (NCP) developed by The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics was adopted and implemented in Indonesia. Some hospitals in Indonesia do not have a proper facility to support dietitians to implement NCP optimally. Objective: To evaluate dietitians’ perception of the NCP implementation in hospital settings in Indonesia. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional design with dietitians who have been working in a hospital as the study subject. Data were collected by questionnaire. Each subject answered questions on general data, nutrition screening practice, and 20 questions about the NCP implementation. The perception score is ranged from one(1) for ‘strongly disagree’ to five(5) for ‘strongly agree.’ The score was summarized and categorized into two groups ‘good’ and ‘less’ positive perception. Univariate and bivariate analysis was used to evaluate the data statistically. Results: More than half of the participants have a good/positive perception of NCP implementation (62.5%). There was a significant association between the level of education and nutrition screening training to other health workers' perceptions statistically. Conclusion: NCP has been implemented very well in a hospital setting in Indonesia. There are improvements needed in some key aspects to improve the quality of the nutrition care process in the hospital, especially for each dietitian to have a better and more standardized perception nationally on implementing NCP.

Abstract

Optimization of organoleptic, glycemic index, and a load of enteral formula based on tempe and jicama flourBackground: Tempeh and jicama have the potential effect as hypoglycemic agents. Hyperglycemic patients are recommended to consume formula with a low glycemic index to control blood glucose levels properly. Although balancing and roasting could improve the aromas of tempeh flour, research is lacking on tempeh powder-based enteral formula. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the organoleptic, glycemic index, and glycemic load of enteral formulas based on tempeh and jicama flour to meet the requirements of enteral formulas for hyperglycemic patients. Methods: Experimental research with 3 levels of treatment, namely variations in the ratio of tempeh flour and jicama flour with formulas 1 (1:1); 2 (3:2); and 3 (4:7) with two methods, namely steam blanching and roasting before tempeh drying. An organoleptic test using a hedonic test was carried out on 25 semi-trained panelists. One-shot case study glycemic index and glycemic load test on 30 subjects met the inclusion criteria. Data analysis used the Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: The color, aroma, and taste in formula 3 were acceptable to the panelists, but the texture was less favorable. Formula 3 has a glycemic index of 55.20 and a glycemic load of 14.90. There was no difference in an index and glycemic load in the 3 enteral formulas. Conclusion: Formula 3, with a ratio of 4:7, a moderate glycemic index, and load, could be acceptable to the panelists.

Abstract

Body mass index correlation with triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol ratio of reproductive age women with obesityBackground: Obesity in women of reproductive age is thought to be one of the triggers of coronary heart disease. Body mass index (BMI) correlates well with the percentage of body fat, which is a strong indicator of coronary heart disease. Accumulation of visceral adipocytes releases excess free fatty acids, resulting in increased triglyceride synthesis. Furthermore, in a state of hypertriglyceridemia, there is a decrease in HDL levels and an increase in HDL catabolism resulting in decreased HDL levels. Examination of the ratio of triglyceride levels and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) is a strong indicator of cardiovascular disease. Objective: The aim of his study was to investigate the correlation between BMI and TG/HDL-C ratio in women of reproductive age. Methods: Using an analytical approach with a cross-sectional design. Furthermore, height and weight were measured with Smic ZT 120. At the same time as this examination, venous blood was taken from the median cubital area to be used to check the level of triglycerides and HDL-C in the serum. TG examination with GPO-PAP and HDL-C direct method. The bivariate analysis uses the Spearman Rank correlation test, while the multivariate analysis uses the linear regression test. Results: TG levels were 106 (34-363) mg/dl, HDL-C levels were 48.19 ± 9.91 mg/dl, and the ratio between the two was 2.26 (0.52-9.58). Spearman Rank analysis obtained the value of r was 0.573, p-value 0.0001.Conclusions:  There is a significant positive correlation between BMI and the ratio of TG/HDL-C levels in adult women of reproductive age with obesity.

Abstract

Maternal age and number of children are associated with the incidence of a double burden of malnutrition at the household level in rural and urban areas in IndonesiaBackground:  Double burden of malnutrition is a nutritional problem where two nutritional problems occur at the same time and this can happen at the household level. The diversity of community characteristics causes differences in the incidence of the double burden of malnutrition at the household level in people living in rural and urban areas in Indonesia. Objective: To determine the associated factors with the incidence of double burden malnutrition at the household level in rural and urban areas in Indonesia. Methods: This study with a cross-sectional design used secondary data from the fifth wave of the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS). The sample in this study was 6,468 households. The double burden of malnutrition at the household level is defined as a household in which there is at least one pair of mother and child aged 2-18 years that has underweight and or overweight/obese. Maternal factors, household economic status, number of children, and regional area are independent variables in this study. A logistic regression test was used to perform statistical analysis. Results: The prevalence of double burden malnutrition at the household level in urban areas was higher than in rural areas (8.70%) and 7.77%). Factors that were significantly (p<0.05) associated with the incidence of double burden malnutrition at the household level in rural areas were maternal age, mother's education, economic level, number of children, and regional living of the household, while in urban areas were maternal age and number of children. Conclusions: Maternal age and the number of children are two significant factors associated with the incidence of double burden malnutrition at the household level in rural and urban areas in Indonesia.

Abstract

Background: COVID-19 pandemic brings a higher risk of malnutrition because of the economic crisis that emphasizes the importance of child nutritional status monitoring during the pandemic. However, nutrition-related care in health care faces several challenges to the social limitation policy for preventing virus spreading. Challenges include delivery, coordination, and follow-up methods. In addition, the mothers' perception concerning the importance of nutritional status monitoring also becomes the determinant of their participation. Objectives: This research aimed to explore the implementation method, challenges, and mothers' perception of the children's nutritional status monitoring process during a pandemic through “posyandu” by applying health protocols. Methods: This research is a descriptive qualitative study in which the data were collected using in-depth interviews. The respondents in this study were mothers of a child aged 0-5 years who lived in Yogyakarta and participated actively in Posyandu. Data triangulation was applied by interviewing the cadres of posyandu and nutritionists in Health Care or Office in Yogyakarta. Results: The posyandu delivered the measurements by adjusting the method with an invitation divided into several measurement sessions or a door-to-door system to minimize crowd. The obstacles faced were the need to procure medical devices and ensure the validity of the data obtained. Conclusions: Child nutritional status monitoring during the COVID-19 pandemic was conducted by applying COVID-19 safety protocols according to the recommendations of the Indonesian Ministry of Health. There should be sufficient support from stakeholders to help posyandu overcome the obstacles: the procurement of medical equipment to meet the health protocol requirements. In addition, there is a need to improve parents' skills in measuring child anthropometric measurements through education and guidelines.

Abstract

Nutritional status, nutrient density, and dietary diversity of children under five during the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangli Regency, BaliBackground: Stunting in children caused the lack of nutritionally balanced food intake in the first two years of life. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the fulfillment of balanced nutrition for children must still be considered to maintain body resistance to avoid COVID-19 infection. Objective: This study was conducted to find out the nutritional status of children and also the knowledge and attitudes of mothers regarding the practice of balanced nutrition based on local food in the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Methods: Cross-sectional study with 202 children aged 23-59 months located in Susut District, Bangli Regency, Bali Province. Data collection includes anthropometric measurements and food recall. Characteristics, knowledge, and attitudes of mothers were conducted by interview using a questionnaire. Results: The nutritional status of subjects showed that the average weight for height z-score (WHZ) was 0.29 ± 1.37, height for age z-score (HAZ) was 0.56 ± 2.38, and weight for age z-score (WAZ) which is -1.18 ± 2.03. The average density of energy intake in the adequate (1.66±0.456), as well as protein density (4.12±0.884 g/100 calories), vitamin B12 (0.225±0.457 mg/100 kcal), and vitamin A (71.7 ±104.6 mg/100 kcal). The majority (61.9%) of subjects consumed less than five food groups in the last 24 hours. The average knowledge of respondents is 69.5±15.3, which is 35.1% in well nutrition knowledge, while most respondent’s attitude has in the good category. Conclusions: Overall children are in normal nutritional status, but it is necessary to attention to the density of vitamins and minerals which are still low, and the lack of food diversity. Suggestion to increase education on balanced nutrition practices based on local food to mothers and families so that they can help grow and also maintain children's health during the COVID-19 pandemic.
