Abstract

The business of making chips has two main products namely peyek chips and banana chips. Making peyek chips and banana chips is done manually using a very simple production facility. The process of frying chips requires a long time because the craftsman only has 1 stove and 1 pan so that the frying process is carried out alternately between peyek and banana chips. This has an impact on a limited quantity of projects so that often customer requests cannot be fulfilled. The quality of chips produced sometimes does not satisfy consumers because it is not crispy if stored for a period of time. This is because the crafters use thin plastic and the process of adhesion to the packaging activities is carried out using candles and kerosene lamps. In addition to not sticking to plastic, there is also a hollow plastic package so that air can get into the chips. The dedication team provided solutions to increase production in the form of 2 units of high pressure cookers, 1 unit of furnace, 3 units of iron frying pan, 1 unit of plastic packaging adhesive (sealer), 1 unit of mechanical sweet potato slicer, 1 unit of semi-mechanical banana slicer, procurement brands and thick plastic. Utilization of these production facilities results in the addition of the types of products produced, namely tojin beans, sweet potato chips, pan flowers and rengginang. Increasing the quality and quantity of products has an impact on increasing the market so that it has been marketed to simple housing, medium housing complexes and now modern outlets are willing to accept the products produced.

Abstract

Refractive errors are the failure of the eye to focus light from an object to the retina to form a clear picture. Refractive disorders are divided into myopia, hypermetropia, and astigmatism. Inadequate light, reading books, watching television and using mobile phones for long periods of time are found to be statistically significant risk factors for refractive abnormalities. The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between risk factors for refractive abnormalities. This research is an analytic study with cross sectional research design. Research data is primary data obtained through interviews using a research instrument in the form of a questionnaire. The results were obtained from 96 students, there were 33 students with refractive abnormalities with fewer males than females (24% compared to 76%). The results of statistical calculations with the Chi Square correlation test showed no significant correlation between the occurrence of refractive errors with a history of refractive errors in siblings (p = 0.223), and there was a significant correlation between reading activity (p = 0.001), activity using gadgets (p = 0,0001) and outdoor activities (p = 0.041). The conclusion from this study there is no meaningful correlation between the risk factors of history of refractive errors in siblings and there is a significant correlation between the risk factors of reading activity, activities using gadgets and outdoor activities on the occurrence of refractive errors in students of Bersama Private Middle School Berastagi in 2019.

Abstract

Research-based community partnership program activities involve two partners, namely the Murti Lestari Farmer Group and Agrina Creation UKM in Helvetia Village, XI Gang Sawit Hamlet, Labuhan Deli District Deli Serdang Regency. This dedication activity is the application of the results of research that had been carried out two years earlier which was USU's Talent Grants in 2017 and 2018. The problem faced was the lack of understanding of oyster mushroom baglog waste management techniques that have the potential to pollute the environment, on the other hand the farmer group Murti Lestari also experienced difficulties in increasing the quantity and quality of sweet potato production which is also widely cultivated in this village. The low interest of farmers is also encouraged because of the low price of sweet potato products and a relatively limited shelf life. The method implemented for training and discussion, accompanied by the practice of making compost from mushroom baglog waste, the practice of preparing planting material in the form of local sweet potato clones with high beta carotene content, compost application in sweet potato cultivation, maintenance to harvesting and post-harvest process using processing equipment into sweet potato flour rich in beta carotene and various other processed food products. Activities that have been carried out are training on composting of baglog mushroom waste using compost counting machines and bioactivators introduced in this activity so that the composting process goes faster, training on technical culture of orange sweet potato cultivation by applying mushroom baglog compost, training on mushroom making mushrooms and composting Oyster mushroom cultivation using shelves made of mild steel and fogging using a sprayer. Production and quality of yields of sweet potatoes that were given compost baglog oyster mushroom waste increased compared without the provision of compost. The next crop is processed into sweet potato flour with high beta carotene content and various food products using an introduced machine, which is a sweet potato slicing machine, flour machine, macaroni making machine and equipment for making sweet potato flour based food processing products.

Abstract

The condition of the reading hut, which only has the pillars of non-structural wood which has a short wooden life, requires the community to periodically replace the rotten wood pillars. Of course this will take a lot of time and costs. Children and adults at the service location have good reading interests. They routinely visit the floating reading hut, but lately people's interest has diminished because the condition of the floating library is not feasible. The woods of the floating library building are decayed and not suitable to be occupied. Especially the foundation or pillar of the building can no longer be able to survive firmly. These things are the background of the community service activities team to choose the location to be able to apply civil engineering in making foundation or as a pillar of the floating library building of Belawan Fishermen's Village. The main thing and priority that becomes the problem in theFishermen Village which is the service partner is the reading hut that is used by the children of the Belawan Fishermen Village whose capacity is inadequate. The reading lodge does not have a terrace that can be used by local children to play and learn. In addition, the terrace can be used to prevent rainwaterfrom entering the main room of the reading cottage. The solution offered in this program is the expansion of the reading hut in the form of a decent terrace to be used by the children of the Belawan Fishermen Village community to learn and play. The expansion of the reading hut consists of concrete pile foundations and floor plates from wooden planks or plywood boards with zinc roofs.
