The small-medium enterprise (SME) Coco Prima has been under nurtured of LPPM USU since 2018. Ever since, it has been improving its productivity and diversifying its productivity into drying products. Currently, this SME manages porang as one of new export commodity. The problem faced by partners is a large and fast drying methodology. Porang or iles-iles are rotten raw materials that only last for three days after harvesting due to the unpleasant odors resulted more than three days, and subsequently, they cannot be processed. Drying under sunlight requires to four days reaching about 70% degree of dryness. Due to unfavorable weather conditions, the raw material becomes sweaty and moldy and produces black colour and soft textures. Therefore, a 3x3x2 cubic meter of drying oven has been constructed along with shelves and heat exchanges supported by liquid petroleum gas (LPG) gas. The heat exchange is designed accordingly to provide lower temperature in the oven, so that the air pressure within it is more efficient and less heat is wasted during reheating process. The heating is sufficient by using LPG and fan 18’. The oven is consisted of two layers in which between the layers are given glass wool as a heat barrier to the environment. It is also designed with a small vent exactly on the middle of the top with the intention to flow water vapour out from the vent, while the cold air is touched by that water vapour in the oven, it converts downward on the heat exchanger repeatedly. From this applied system, 750 kg iles-iles was heated within two days with a tube-of-12 kg LPG gas.

This community service aims to provide solutions for fisheries that experience water change problems caused by the lower availability of ground water. The small-medium enterprise (SME) Lele Tamora which is engaged in catfish breeding experiences this problem, such as turbid and bubbly water, which causes mass death of fish seedlings. Therefore, pond fish farming with a modern system integrated by a biofloc system that is supported by the use of microbubbles is introduced to the owner. The basic principle of this system is to utilize bacteria that can release substances that function as adhesives to form biofloc, such as microalgae aggregates, residual pellets, exoskeletons of dead organisms, bacteria, protists, protozoa and others substance with 0.1-2 mm diameter. All of these aggregates can be a source of poison in the pond system or as a competitor for fish to get oxygen. The biofloc system is projected to be able in reducing the toxic content in pond water which automatically reduces fish mortality, and this system can also convert organic waste in ponds into natural food as well as reducing commercial feed. For this purpose, a 1000 liter volume of bioreactor has been constructed to grow biofloc bacterial seeds, 20-liter-capacity of autoclaves to sterilize dissolved oxygen while helping to breed floc-forming aerobic bacteria. This system has been implemented at Lele Tamora SME, and the results showed the changing of water-pond colour from green to brown. Meanwhile, the netting ratio (selection of catfish based on the size of ready-to-sell) increased from 4000 to 8000 individuals.

Karo Regency is one of the biggest coffee producing regions in North Sumatra Province. Plantation waste by-product from coffee production is the coffee seed waste which is usually discarded and causes environmental pollution. The purpose of this community service is to apply the waste of coffee fruit skin into sheep and goat feed using silage technology so that it can reduce the cost of feed for farmers. The method used is interviews and finding solutions to problems, training accompanied by practice using teaching media such as guidebooks, leaflets and banners, assistance and reinforcement supported by equipment from the service team so farmers are more interested. Outcomes of community service programs are improving farmers 'knowledge and skills, reducing the cost of animal feed using abundant coffee seed waste, reducing environmental pollution, developing the concept of business integration between plantations and animal husbandry so as to increase farmers' incomes. The results obtained are based on a long-term indicator that the utilization of coffee fruit seed waste using silage technology for animal feed can reduce feed costs, increase livestock production, increase farmers' skills and knowledge and can overcome waste pollution. It was concluded that silage technology using coffee seed waste is very effective to improve science, environmental health, income and farmers' standard of living.
