Abstract

The public's need for natural medicines that can be consumed practically urges processed spice traders to continue to improve the quality and quantity of products marketed. The problem with traders of bandrek and traditional ingredients is the lack of equipment that supports the quality of the ingredients used as basic ingredients for bandrek and traditional Karo ingredients. Equipment that is very important in this business is a machine for grinding basic ingredients to produce a finer composition of ingredients. Apart from that, the packaging for bandrek products and traditional ingredients is more hygienic and attractive to support the sales appeal and hygiene of the products produced. Based on the existing problems, community service activities provide the necessary equipment in the form of a finer spice grinding machine with a large grinding capacity. Apart from that, there were also 1000 pieces of packaging for bandrek with the LPPM USU logo. The aim of this service is to help traders of bandrek and traditional Karo medicine so that they can improve the quality and marketing of production by providing assistance with flouring tools/machines. The method of socializing product benefits and demonstrating the use of flouring machines is carried out directly to traders of bandrek and traditional Karo medicine. This activity has an impact on increasing traders' awareness to maintain the quality and marketing of bandrek production and Karo traditional medicine through equipment modernization, so that it can provide profits for traders

Abstract

Good financial management is crucial for the sustainability of community-based tourism ventures, such as Cangkring Edupark in Krembung District, Sidoarjo Regency. However, its management often faces challenges due to the lack of systematic financial recording. This program aimed to provide training for Cangkring Edupark managers in preparing simple financial reports, involving students from the Accounting major at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya and local village officials. The training utilized the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach by leveraging local assets. Activities included observation, socialization, training, monitoring, and evaluation to enhance participants's understanding of cash flow recording, profit/loss calculation, and financial reporting. The empowerment efforts resulted in a significant improvement in the managers ability to independently perform simple bookkeeping. This program is expected to serve as a model for empowerment that can be applied to other local tourism destinations in Cangkring Village.

Abstract

Merjosari Village, Malang City, boasts abundant natural resources in the form of banana plantations. After the fruit is harvested, banana stems ("gedebok") are often considered waste and underutilized, even though they have the potential to be processed into value-added products. This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to transform this organic waste into an innovative, high-value food product: banana stem chips. The activity method consists of practical training and mentoring focused on housewives in RW 08 RT 09, Joyo Asri, Merjosari. This training not only reduces organic waste but also aims to open new business opportunities and encourage local product innovation. The expected results are increased family income, increased productive activities of residents, and collectively strengthening the community economy through the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) based on local potential. This activity will be implemented in May 2025.

Abstract

Environmental aesthetic revitalization is a crucial effort in creating a comfortable, green, and functional public space for the community. Mural art, as a form of visual expression, holds great potential in beautifying the environment and reinforcing local identity. This community service program was conducted at the RT Hall of Kampung Deles IV, Surabaya, an area experiencing visual degradation due to dull and poorly maintained walls. Through a participatory approach, the service team and local residents collaboratively planned, designed, and implemented mural artworks that highlight local wisdom and communal values. The results showed significant improvement in environmental aesthetics, a strengthened sense of belonging among residents, and increased motivation to maintain the RT hall as a hub for social activities. This project demonstrates that mural art can serve as an effective medium for community-based empowerment and environmental revitalization.

Abstract

This community service program aims to improve the skills of MSMEs in Pekik Nyaring Village, Pondok Kelapa District, Central Bengkulu, in creating social media content as a digital marketing strategy. This village, which has potential for processed agricultural products such as elephant ear chips, banana chips, rengginang (rice crackers), and various cassava products, still faces limitations in utilizing social media as a promotional tool. Activities were carried out through observation, digital content management counseling, content planning and creation training, and digital administration. The training emphasized hands-on practice in product photography, lighting, visual composition, image editing using mobile apps, as well as creating captions, hashtags, and content calendars. Results showed significant improvements in participants' ability to produce upload-ready content and understand basic digital marketing strategies. Despite obstacles such as varying device quality, limited internet access, and limited technical skills, the adaptive approach successfully ensured all participants could optimally follow the process. The program has had a positive impact on improving MSMEs' readiness to promote their products independently on social media. Going forward, further training in graphic design is essential so that participants can create more attractive, professional, and uniform content templates and frameworks to increase product competitiveness.

Abstract

Halaban Village, located in Besitang District, Langkat Regency, has great potential in the agricultural and livestock sectors, but still faces various challenges in developing sustainable livestock businesses. The main problems faced by the community are limited capital, low managerial skills, and dependence on wage labor. The community service program by the University of North Sumatra (USU) aims to improve the local economy by empowering communities in the field of animal husbandry. The approach used includes managerial training, providing capital in the form of breeding stock and developing livestock business infrastructure, as well as ongoing mentoring to strengthen entrepreneurial skills. The results of this program show an improvement in the community's ability to manage livestock businesses and financial records, as well as significant social changes, such as an increase in collective work spirit. Nevertheless, there are still challenges in managerial consistency and the division of tasks among members. This program is expected to strengthen the economic independence of the people of Halaban Village and serve as a model for community empowerment based on agribusiness that can be applied in other villages.

Abstract

Rural agricultural communities in Indonesia face persistent challenges, including dependence on chemical fertilizers, declining soil quality, and increasing production costs. Limited adoption of research-based innovations further constrains sustainable farming practices. This community service program aimed to implement and evaluate a liquid complementary fertilizer innovation through a participatory Focus Group Discussion (FGD) approach in Narumonda III Village, Toba Regency. The program applied participatory methods consisting of pre-test and post-test assessments, FGD sessions, farmer training, field demonstrations, and collaboration with an industry partner, with active community involvement throughout the process. Results showed improved farmer knowledge of sustainable fertilization and nutrient management, along with positive acceptance of the liquid complementary fertilizer. Participants recognized its potential to reduce input costs, improve soil quality, and enhance crop productivity. The program also strengthened collaboration among the university, local community, and industry partner, supporting effective knowledge transfer. These findings indicate that FGD-based community engagement is effective in disseminating agricultural innovation and supporting sustainable rural development.

Abstract

This Focus Group Discussion (FGD) aims to formulate strategies to strengthen the resilience of the Siponjot Village community through non-formal education and the planting of productive trees as efforts toward disaster mitigation and welfare improvement. Siponjot Village faces potential vulnerability to natural disasters such as landslides and floods, influenced by its geographical conditions and land-use patterns. Through the FGD, which involved village authorities, community leaders, farmer groups, and youth representatives, the need to enhance community capacity in environmental management through participatory educational approaches was identified. Non-formal education initiatives were designed to improve knowledge of disaster mitigation, land conservation, and skills in cultivating and managing productive trees. The planting of productive trees was selected as an integrated strategy because it strengthens soil structure, reduces disaster risks, and provides long-term economic benefits. The results of the FGD indicate increased collective awareness, collaborative commitment among stakeholders, and the development of a community-based action plan. Therefore, integrating non-formal education with productive tree planting represents a sustainable empowerment model to enhance both community resilience and rural welfare.

Abstract

This Focus Group Discussion (FGD) aims to identify strategies for optimizing corn chips (emping jagung) production through the implementation of innovative equipment technology in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Bekiung Village, Langkat Regency. Bekiung Village is known as an agricultural area with abundant corn production, where corn is processed into emping jagung as a local snack product. However, the processing activities are still conducted manually, which limits production capacity and efficiency and becomes an obstacle in supporting the agricultural sector that remains the main economic pillar of the village. Through the FGD involving community members, village authorities, and the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) Bangun Mandiri Bekiung, various issues related to production constraints and technology needs were discussed. As a result, the implementation of innovative equipment technology was introduced as a practical solution to improve the efficiency and quality of corn processing. The program includes socialization on the benefits of corn processing, training on transforming corn into economically valuable products, provision of appropriate technology equipment to assist production, as well as continuous mentoring and evaluation to maintain product quality and market competitiveness. The results of the FGD indicate an increase in community understanding of technology utilization, stronger collaboration between stakeholders, and the development of a sustainable production improvement strategy. Therefore, the integration of community participation through FGD and the application of innovative equipment technology represents an effective approach to enhance productivity, strengthen rural economic resilience, and support the sustainable development of MSMEs in Bekiung Village.
