Qualitative method was used in this research because the data were in the form of words rather than that of numbers and statistics. The data were taken from the utterances spoken by the main characters on "Daddy Day Camp". After the data are collected, they are classified and analyzed based on Grice’s Cooperative principle theory. This research found many maxims of cooperative principle which were flouted and hedged by the main characters on "Daddy Day Camp", especially the maxim of quality and quantity. On the other hand, this research also found that the utterances spoken by the main characters hedged the maxims of cooperative principle. There were some utterances which hedge the maxim of quality and relevance because the utterances which were spoken by the main characters are not totally accurate but seem informative, well founded and relevant. Abstract

This paper shows the cultural barriers in the higher education setting and advises that the university makes certain preparations to welcome inbound and outbound students of exchange program upon their arrival. Students have accepted resources primarily generated from the university to overcome these obstacles. Therefore, as revealed by this study, the university or college is better able to identify students' needs and provide appropriate campus resources and services when they have a deeper grasp of their academic issues. The university must be equipped not only intellectually, but also socially and culturally, to meet the demands of its students. Keywords: Cultural Issues, Inbound and Outbound students

Abstract

This study endeavors to investigate the effects of metapragmatic instructions: role play and elicited conversation negotiated feedback (RP+NF, EC+NF) embedded in Task-Supported Language Instruction (TSLI) on the students’ apology strategy. We used a laboratory-based research design encompassing 75 fifth-semester students of economics major taking English business for international communication in higher educational level. Those students were randomly assigned into one control group and two experimental groups. We utilized a mixed-design repeated measure analysis of variance (RM-ANOVA) to gauge the students’ apology proficiency explicated in a two-test design i.e., apology judgment test (AJT) and apology oral test (AOT) in a three test sessions (pre-, post-, and delayed test). The finding reveals that there is a significant difference between among groups in which both experimental groups outperform the control group in post and delayed tests. Also, a significant increase is explicated in both experimental groups from pre to post test, but not in the control group. While RP+NF provides the most robust of all and stimulates a long term effects with big effect sizes on both test designs, EC+NF fails to provide a long term effect in AOT.
