One of the objectives that should be developed in teaching is reading comprehension skills. In fact, many students still have a lot of problems with reading. Therefore, teachers should use specific strategies in teaching reading comprehension to resolve students’ difficulties. The purpose of the research was to find out whether or not it is significantly effective to teach reading comprehension by using the FIVES strategy for eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Lubuklinggau. This research applied the pre-experimental method with one group pre- and post-test only. The population of the study was all of the eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Lubuklinggau. Cluster random sampling was taken to take the sample class. Class XI MIA 4 was chosen as the sample class. The data was collected through a reading test consisted of 20 items of multiple-choice form. The results of this research were: 1) the average score in the pre-test was 61.81, and the post-test was 78.06, 2) the result of the Paired t-test was 10.167, which higher than t-table (1.689) at the significant level of 5% with df 35. Therefore, the alternative hypotheses (Ha) was accepted. It means that it was significantly effective to teach reading comprehension by using the FIVES strategy for eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Lubuklinggau.

DEVELOPING STORYBOOK FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN LUBUKLINGGAU Ayu Oktaviani; Dewi Syafitri; Berti Arimbi

The aim of this study was to find out the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the developed storybook. Research and Development proposed by Branch (2009) consisting of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) was used in developing the product. In the evaluation phase, formative evaluation proposed by Tessmer (1993) consisting of experts review, there were three experts reviewing the product, namely content expert, media expert, and instructional design expert. Three students involved in the one-to-one evaluation, six students involved in the small group phase and eleven students in the field phase. To collect the data, questionnaires, interview, and a test was used. The collected data were analyzed qualitatively for the interview and quantitatively by using the average score for the questionnaires and percentage for the test. The developed product was valid after being evaluated in the expert review phase in terms of its content, media, and instructional design with an average score of 4.1 categorized as highly valid. The product was also practical with an average score of 4.6 in One-To-One and 4.0 in Small Group phase categorized as highly practical. The product was also had very high effectiveness which average score 91.2.Â

This study was about an analysis of social conflict in "Eleanor and Park" novel by Rainbow Rowell. This study would answer the question "What are social conflict found in Eleanor and Park novel by Rainbow Rowell?", and "What are the implication of the novel towards social values?" by answering the question the writer would know what social conflicts were found in the novel and the implication of the novel toward social values. The writer used descriptive qualitative research. The object of the study was novel entitled "Eleanor and Park" by Rainbow Rowell. The instrument of this study was the writer herself as the human instrument key. In collecting the data, the sentences were highlighted and underlined. In the analysis, the data were identified, categorized, classified, reduced, described, and interpreted. There were two points explained from the novel. First, related to social conflict in the novel, it was found some social conflict in the novel divided into three parts: conflict of involving social position, conflict of interest, and conflict of role. Second, it was the implication of the novel toward social values: advice, helping behavior, cooperation, trust, and hospitality related to the real life and applicable for daily use.

The objectives of the study was to develop the textbook for Elementary school of the sixth grade students. The population were eighteen students at the sixth grade A class. Nowadays character building was a national movement in Indonesia. The educators asked to integrate it in the learning process, but unfortunately, there are still many teachers that still had difficult in integrating character building in classroom. In English class character building can be integrated through inserting culture in the material, therefore the students are not only learning about the material but they also learned about the value of the culture. The purpose of this research was develop English material for sixth grade students based on character building. The method of this study was Research and Development (R&D) by ADDIE model (1990) was applied Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and evaluation the product. The subjects of research were the students at elementary school of sixth grade. The result of research showed that the textbook developed was appropriate to the students’ needs and curriculum. The writer concluded that developing English textbook for Elementary school at sixth grade students of SD IT An-nida Lubuklinggau got positive response from six grade students because it can help easier for students comprehend the material clearly. So in this study, the textbook can help students facilitate learning English in the classroom.

The Used of Inductive Approach to Improve Students Speaking in Professional Context at the Second Semester Students of STKIP PGRI Lubuklinggau Ayu Oktaviani; Yulfi Yulfi

The objective of the research was to find out how students speaking in professional context at the 2nd semester of STKIP PGRI Lubuklinggau can be improved through inductive approach. The researcher used Action Research or classroom action research. The research conducted at STKIP PGRI Lubuk Linggau academic year 2014/2015. The research conducted to the students who took speaking class (Speaking for Professional context). The class consists of 34 students. The procedures of the actions were four steps as follows: (1) planning, (2) implementing, (3) observing and (4) reflecting. The findings of the strategy implementation were analyzed from the research instruments used, observation checklists, field notes, speaking test and Interview. There were thirty four (34) students as the samples of class room action research. Based on the product of test, they were 30 of 34 students (88.24 percent) successfully passed the final of speaking test. Based on the interview of 34 students in second semester only 6 students who were still not confidence in speaking and there were 28 students or (82.35 percent) who did not feel easily embarrassed when they spoke in the class especially in formal class. Based on the data above, this classroom action research succeeds to improve students skill in speaking for professional context. It means that, inductive approach that has 6 steps, 13 meeting, and 7 topics was success. Keyword: Speaking, Professional Context, Inductive, Approach

The objective of the research was to find out teachers’ perceptions about the importance of English for young learners at Elementary Schools in Lubuklinggau.Type of survey used in this study was cross-sectional survey research. To select the sample, cluster random sampling used in this research. Cluster random sampling here focused on the eight (8) districts of Lubuklinggaucity (Lubuklinggau Utara1-2, Selatan1-2, Barat1-2 and Timur1-2). The researchers chose randomly four (4) districts.The researcher used the representative sample from each districts chosen. 100 teachers, 100 students, and 100 parents are samples. The researcher used survey research and the data were collected by using questionnaire and interview. Technique for analyzing the data used simple basic statistical technique. The data are scored by using Likert scale. The results of the research were: 1) the respondents agree that the children who learn foreign language early as possible will get the better result. 2) the respondents very agree that economic globalization has pushed the necessity of workers who are able to speak English. 3) the respondents agree that the enthusiasm of parents in supporting their children to learn English hopefully can help their children will have social and economic benefits in the future. Based on the result of the data, it can be concluded that the teachers, students and parents of Elementary Schools in Lubuklinggau agree that English for Young Learners is important. This study aims to know the types of directive illocutionary act dominantly used in Me Before You. The researcher used quantitative and qualitative methods to describe and analyze the most dominant illocutionary act in Me Before You. The result showed that there are six types of Illocutionary acts that are used in this movie. There are advising (36%), commanding (24.5%), requesting (22%), admonishing (10%), urging (5%) and ordering (2.5%). In conclusion, the Me Before You movie contained all types of Illocutionary Acts. The purpose of this research was to find out the ability of the first students to write present continuous sentences triggered by picture. In specific the purposes of this study are as follows: 1. to describe the students’ ability of SMK Kartika 1-2 Padang to write positive form sentences in present continuous tense triggered by pictures. 2. to describe the students’ ability of SMK Kartika 1-2 Padang to write negative form sentences in present continuous tense triggered by pictures. 3. to describe the students’ ability of SMK Kartika 1-2 Padang to write interrogative form sentences in present continuous tense triggered by pictures. The design of this study was a descriptive in nature. According to Gay (1987:189), descriptive research involves collecting data in order to answer question concerning the current status of the subject of the study. The instrumentation that used to collect the data in this research was writing test. It consisted of 20 pictures. In this test, the students were required to write present continuous in simple sentences (positive sentences, negative sentences and interrogative sentences) triggered by pictures. Based on the result of the study, in general, the students’ ability to write present continuous tense in simple sentences triggered by pictures was moderate since there were 24 students (55.81%) from 43 students had moderate ability. Data also exhibited that their ability to write positive form, negative form, and interrogative form was moderate with percentages as follow: 69.77% for positive form present continuous tense sentences triggered by pictures, 67.44% for negative form present continuous tense sentences triggered by pictures and 76.74% for interrogative form present continuous tense sentences triggered by pictures.

Nowadays, the education situation still in a struggle stage. This is because of the situation of Covid-19 pandemic. This situation made the govermen issued some policy. It made the teaching and learning process in this time have to implement Blended learning. This methos was a new for some lecturer one of them were the lecturers in STKIP-PGRI Lubuklinggau. They still face some challenges in applied this method because there was no a significant or fixed guidline in teaching process both in online or offline classroom. Based on the fenomena, this research aims to carry out the teaching activities done by lecturers` receptive skills in the Covid-19 period at STKIP-PGRI Lubuklinggau in implementing Blended Learning. The research informants were the lecturers` receptive skills that consisted of 2 reading skill lecturers and 1 listening skill lecturer. They taught with Blended Learning in the even semester of the academic year 2020/2021. This research was descriptive qualitative. The research instruments were questionnaires and interview. The instruments adopted from the activity theory by Meliawati, Nitiasih and Budasi (2014). The technique of data analysis were reduction, display and conclusion. The results showed the activities carried out by lecturers during teaching with Blended Learning consist of 3 parts: Pre-activity, Whilst-activity and Post-activity where each part consists of two different activities between online classes and offline classes.

This aims of this research were to find out the kinds and the process of derivational affixes of national column in The Jakarta Post online. This research belong to descriptive qualitative research. The data was gotten from national column of The Jakarta Post online newspaper which published on June 4th - 8th 2018. The data in this research were collected by some steps 1) searching The Jakarta Post Newspaper at www.newspaperPDF.com, 2) reading the sentences of the chosen in The Jakarta Post Online Newspaper to find out the words which contain derivational affixes, 3) collecting the words which contain derivational affixes to get the data of the kind derivational affixes by prefixation and suffixation. The result of analysis in this research were 1) The total number of words that conducted by a process of derivational affixes are 301 words were suffixes forming noun are more dominantly as much as 167 words which a process of verb to noun are frequently found in a 123 times, 2) The derivation process of suffixes is much more found from the derivational prefixes.
