Abstract

Abstract. The term spiritual formation has been widely used in many Christian contexts both within the family, school and church. This literature study will focus on explaining the concept of Christian character education based on spiritual formation. This article offers spiritual formation as a more relevant approach in building Christian character. Through this study, it was found that Christian character education can only be achieved through the application of spiritual formations both individually and in groups. Therefore, Christian educational institutions must emphasis on spiritual development efforts in character education. Spiritual formation will be able to transform the inner life so as to form a Christ-like character.Abstrak. Istilah formasi rohani telah banyak digunakan dalam banyak konteks Kristen baik dalam lingkup keluarga, sekolah maupun gereja. Tinjauan pustaka ini akan fokus pada penjelasan mengenai konsep pendidikan karakter Kristen yang berbasiskan atas formasi rohani. Artikel ini menawarkan formasi rohani sebagai pendekatan yang lebih relevan untuk membangun karakter Kristen. Melalui kajian ini diperoleh hasil bahwa pendidikan karakter Kristen hanya dapat dicapai melalui penerapan formasi rohani baik secara individu maupun kelompok. Oleh karena itu, lembaga pendidikan Kristen harus lebih menitikberatkan upaya-upaya pembinaan rohani dalam pendidikan karakter. Formasi rohani akan mampu mentransformasi kehidupan batiniah sehingga membentuk karakter seperti Kristus.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to reveal the deep meaning of hupomone for Paul. Paul saw his obedience and loyality of the teaching he believe. He strongly defended the Jewish teaching and did the customer of his ancestors before he repented. It also happened when he lived in Christ after  his repentance. This research used biblical analysis as the tool to reveal the meaning of hupomone for Paul. The result of the research indicates the hupomone for Paul is his basic attitudes, such as being stickle, stand firm, being steadfast, and being persevere as the loyal followers of best. The writer emphasizesthe meaning of hupomone is very relevant, it has impacts for Christian in this era to face many problems in the world.

Abstract

Abstract. This article examines two issues in Ecclesiastes 12:12, namely making (many) books and learning. “Learning”and“writing practice”areprevalent in thought and literature in the Ancient Near East. Qohelet's perspective, particularly related to “writing books”and“learning,”is a genre of wisdom that can be easily found in the corpus of Old Testament Wisdom Literature books. The imperative form of the intention of Qohelet on these two issues seems to draw the readers on one of twochoices:prohibitionor warning, sinceQohelet himself does not give a compelling reason for these issues.Methodologically, this topic will be examined hermeneutically. Qohelet’s expression related to writing and learning does not spread and promote a pessimistic spirit in the midst of ecclesiastical society and educated people.Abstrak. Artikel ini merupakan sebuah upaya untuk mengkaji dua isu pada bagian akhir dari kitab Pengkhotbah (12:12), yakni membuat (banyak) buku dan (banyak) belajar. Topik-topik yang berkaitan dengan “belajar” dan “praktik menulis” lazim dalam pemikiran dan literatur di dunia Timur Tengah Kuno. Perspektif Qohelet, khususnya terkait dengan “menulis buku” dan “belajar,” berada dalam genre hikmat yang dapat mudah dijumpai dalam korpus kitab-kitab Sastra Hikmat Perjanjian Lama. Intensi bentuk imperatif dari Qohelet terhadap dua isu ini tampaknya menarik pembaca pada pilihan: larangan atau peringatan, karena Qohelet sendiri tidak memberikan alasan yang kuat untuk kedua-duanya. Secara metodologis, topik ini akan dikaji secara hermeneutis. Ungkapan Qohelet terkait menulis dan belajar tidak menebar dan menumbuhkan semangat pesimistik di tengah-tengah warga gereja dan masyarakat terpelajar.

Abstract

This study describes the inter-ethnic solidarity in the charismatic Mawar Sharon church in Medan City, Indonesia, also known as the Connect Group Church.The qualitative and ethnographic approaches were used to determine the solidarity in Charismatic Churches where people are separated by ethnicity. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with respondents actively involved in the activities of the religious connect groups, such as sponsors, coaches, and team leaders. The results showed that the activities in the community include fellowship, ice breakers, praise and worship, and material sharing as a form of learning about inter-ethnic solidarity among members. Furthermore, active members such as team leaders, sponsors, and coaches play significant roles in these activities. Meanwhile, music and church songs are used to strengthen the relationship between members.

Abstract

In Indonesia, even though its demography is noted as the fourth largest population in the world, its significant number does not give a positive effect on graduates of Christian Institutions. It is so since Christian inhabitants in Indonesia are a minority while the institution run by these Christian and Theology Study Programs are abundant. It causes graduates from these institutions over the capacity for schools and churches can use. In order to increase the opportunity for taking jobs for graduates of Theological Institutions, there must be innovative ways taken. This research was conducted by qualitative method with phenomenological approach. The research’s object was students and graduates of Institut Agama Kristen Negeri (IAKN) Tarutung since 2016. The research’s result showed that Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) could be good solution for the problem. MBKM can help students gain experience outside of their study program, which will be needed when they graduate and start to seek for a job.

Abstract

Abstract. Organizations and positions in the Church exist for the purpose of bringing about order. However, there are often tensions and frictions between clergy and laity caused by an understanding of the government of the Church. The purpose of this study was to analyze the level of understanding of the Church's clergy about the model of Church government and its influence on Church order. The method used is descriptive exploratory, with a quantitative approach. The research variables consisted of the Sinodal Presbyterian government model (X1), Laikal (X2), Elders (X3), and order (Y). The object of research is the clergy of the Church of Isa Almasih (GIA), with a total sample of 193 people. The results showed that the level of understanding of the GIA clergy on the Sinodal Presbyterian model of government was very low compared to the understanding of the Laikal or Elder government model. Thus, it can be concluded that the tensions and frictions that occur are due to a lack of understanding of the model of government adopted by the Church Synod.Abstrak. Organisasi dan jabatan dalam Gereja ada dengan tujuan agar terwujud ketertiban. Namun, sering kali justru terjadi ketegangan dan gesekan di antara rohaniwan dan kaum awam yang disebabkan oleh pemahaman tentang pemerintahan Gereja. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis tingkat pemahaman rohaniawan Gereja tentang model pemerintahan Gereja dan pengaruhnya terhadap ketertiban Gereja. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif eksploratif, dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Variabel penelitian terdiri atas model pemerintahan Presbiterial Sinodal (X1), Laikal (X2), Kepenatuaan (X3), dan ketertiban (Y). Obyek penelitian adalah para rohaniwan Gereja Isa Almasih (GIA), dengan jumlah sampel 193 orang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat pemahaman rohaniwan GIA tentang model pemerintahan Presbiterial Sinodal sangat kurang dibandingkan dengan pemahaman terhadap model pemerintahan Laikal atau Kepenatuaan. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa ketegangan dan gesekan yang terjadi adalah oleh karena pemahaman yang kurang terhadap model pemerintahan yang dianut Sinode Gerejanya.

Abstract

Abstract. The globalization era results a negative impact on the increasing permissiveness of society towards foreign culture, and conversely, local culture which has noble values is increasingly being abandoned because it is considered less popular. This also happened to the people of Timor Dawan who had started to leave the Natoni culture. For this reason, efforts are needed to preserve it through education. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to examine the preservation of Natoni culture through Christian Religious Education (PAK) in Senior High Schools (SMA). The method used in this study is a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach at Soe 1 Christian High School, South Central Timor District. Through this research, it was found that efforts to preserve Natoni culture can be carried out through PAK in schools. PAK does not merely teach doctrinal teachings of the Christian faith, but can also teach noble values of local culture.Abstrak. Era globalisasi menimbulkan dampak negatif makin permisifnya masyarakat terhadap budaya asing, dan sebaliknya budaya lokal, yang memiliki nilai-nilai luhur, semakin ditinggalkan oleh karena dianggap kalah popular. Hal ini pun terjadi pada masyarakat Timor Dawan yang sudah mulai meninggalkan budaya Natoni. Untuk itu diperlukan upaya untuk melestarikannya melalui pendidikan. Dengan demikian, tujuan tulisan ini adalah untuk mengkaji pelestarian budaya Natoni melalui Pendidikan Agama Kristen (PAK) di Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA). Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan etnografi di SMA Kristen 1 Soe, Kabupaten Timor Tengah Selatan. Melalui penelitian ini, ditemukan bahwa upaya pelestarian budaya Natoni dapat dilakukan melalui PAK di sekolah. PAK tidak semata-mata hanya mengajarkan ajaran-ajaran iman Kristiani yang bersifat doktrinal, namun juga dapat untuk mengajarkan nilai-nilai luhur budaya lokal.

Abstract

Abstract. This article aims to show the importance of Christian education in the church context which focuses on the history of faith and its relation to social discourse. In general, the practice of Christian education in the church is still indoctrinating. Highlighting this, this paper attempted to establish a dialogue between the theory of critical pedagogy (liberation) of Paulo Freire's thought and the Christian education of the church (sidi catechism). The discussion in this article shows that the application of Paulo Freire's concept of critical pedagogy can emancipate catechism learning as an experience of religious faith. The faith’s evidence is shown in the reflection of personal life and to the world around it. Transformative Christian education in the teaching of catechism is important to be carried out with critical action and reflection as an appreciation of living together for better social change.Abstrak. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menunjukkan pentingnya Pendidikan Kristiani dalam konteks gereja yang berfokus dari sejarah iman dan kaitannya dengan wacana sosial. Pada umumnya, praksis Pendidikan Kristiani di gereja masih bersifat indoktrinatif. Menyoroti hal itu, tulisan ini berupaya untuk mendialogkan teori pedagogi kritis (pembebasan) dari pemikiran Paulo Freire dengan Pendidikan Kristiani gereja (katekisasi sidi). Pembahasan dalam artikel ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan konsep pedagogi kritis dari Paulo Freire dapat mengemansipasi pembelajaran katekisasi sebagai pengalaman iman religius. Bukti iman diperlihatkan dalam refleksi kehidupan personal dan dunia sekitarnya. Pendidikan Kristiani transformatif dalam pengajaran katekisasi penting dilakukan dengan aksi dan refleksi kritis sebagai penghayatan hidup bersama untuk perubahan sosial yang lebih baik.

Abstract

Abstract. The research aimed to find alternative resource of inspiration and motivation for the churches to respond the ecological crisis through the concept of koinonia on two documents of church: DKG–PGI 2019–2024 and Encyclical Laudato Si’. The research used literature study approach. The research result showed that DKG–PGI 2019–2024 and Encyclical Laudato Si’–as the document of the church–could be used as church’s response in reality of ecological crisis through the concept of koinonia which has the values of solidarity, liberative, and sacramentalism in it. The concept of koinonia emerged in and through the reflection of faith on the Trinity that internalized through historicity, experience, and life internalisation, both as personal and church community.Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan menemukan sumber alternatif inspirasi dan motivasi bagi upaya gereja untuk merespons krisis ekologi melalui gagasan koinonia pada dokumen DKG–PGI 2019–2024 dan Ensiklik Laudato Si’. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan studi literatur. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dokumen DKG–PGI 2019–2024 dan Ensiklik Laudato Si’ bisa menjadi respons gereja dalam perbincangan mengenai krisis ekologi, melalui gagasan koinonia yang bersifat solider, liberasi, dan sakramental yang dimiliki kedua dokumen tersebut. Gagasan koinonia seperti ini muncul dalam dan melalui refleksi iman akan Allah Trinitas yang dihayati melalui historisitas, pengalaman, dan penghayatan hidup, baik secara pribadi maupun sebagai komunitas gereja.
