Abstract

Abstract:  Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to abnormalities in insulin secretion, insulin action or both. DM cases in the world reach 463 million people, and it is estimated that it will increase in 2045 to reach 700 million people. Almost all provinces in Indonesia have seen an increase including North Sumatra, which increased from 1.8% to 2% in 2018. HbA1c has become the most widely used and accepted test to monitor glycemic control in individuals with diabetes. This study aims to determine the relationship between uric acid levels and HbA1c levels in prolanis patients with type 2 DM. Descriptive analytical research with a cross sectional research design of data collection using secondary data from medical records. The study sample was patients diagnosed with type 2 DM disease who entered the inclusion criteria and exclusion was obtained using purposive sampling with a total of 37 patients. Data analysis was carried out using a person correlation test with a meaning limit if p0.05. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between uric acid levels and HbA1c levels (p = 0.014 and r = 0.402). This means that the higher the HbA1c level, the higher the uric acid level. There is a significant relationship between uric acid levels and HbA1c levels.

Abstract

Abstract: Lactobacillus species are the most frequent bacterial colonies in the human microbiome that can be found in the gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and vaginal microbiota. Lactobacillus gasseri is an important constituent of the female urogenital tract. if there is excessive proliferation of Lactobacillus, there will be changes in the homeostasis of the human microbiome. Homeostasis of the human microbiome can undermine the symbiotic relationship between host and microorganisms, induce physiological changes in the individual, and lead to the development of diseases such as to the development of diseases such as cancer. Legundi fruit extract was found to be cytotoxic against several lines of cancer cells and has antimicrobial activity. This research aims to determine the diameter of antibacterial inhibition of Legundi fruit extract, and determine the minimum inhibition concentration (MIC), minimum kill concentration (MKC) against Lactobacillus gasseri. This research used solid and liquid dilution and diffusion methods with concentrations of 10%, 20%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, positive and negative controls. Extract of Legundi fruit can’t inhibit bacterial growth at concentrations of 10% and 20%. The longest diameter was in the positive control with streptomycin. The higher the concentration of Legundi fruit ethanol extract given, the higher the inhibition ability.

Abstract

Abstract: The use of smartphones in the digital era like today is increasingly intense in daily life. Not only teenagers and adults, smartphones are also widely used by children, toddlers, and even babies.  Blue light filters on smartphones are believed to reduce visual disturbances that occur due to long-term smartphone use. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of a blue light filter on the level of eye fatigue of students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra (FK UMSU). This research is quasi-experimental with a pre-posttest design. A total of 154 FK UMSU students were divided into 2 groups, the Blue Light Filter Group (BLF) and the Non-Blue Light Filter Group (Non-BLF) with the same number (n1 = n2 = 77). Each group filled out a VFS (Visual Fatigue Scale) questionnaire before and after working on the visual task. The data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney and Wilcoxon tests. The results showed that the post-test score of the level of eye fatigue in the Non-BLF group was significantly higher than that of the BLF group (P 0.001). There was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results of the Non-BLF Group (P 0.001), while the pre-test and post-test results of the BLF Group showed a difference but not significant (P = 0.860). This study shows that the use of blue light filters affects the level of eye fatigue.

Abstract

Abstract: Speech and language disorders are common clinical features often associated with neurodevelopmental disorders. Abnormal brain activity associated with epilepsy can impact the developmental trajectory of cognitive processes, such as language. Early identification of children with speech and language delays and disorders will allow for early intervention before learning and behavioural problems develop to achieve better academic and social outcomes. This study evaluates whether children with epilepsy experience speech and language disorders. Observational analysis with a cross-sectional study with patient medical record data in the outpatient clinic of a pediatric neurology consultant from January 2023 to February 2025. Risk factors were analysed bivariate and multivariate. This study found that out of 479 children with epilepsy, 331 or 62.7% experienced speech and language delay or disorders. The study concludes that a significant proportion of children with epilepsy (62.7%) experience speech and language disorders. The presence of these disorders is notably associated with a higher frequency of seizures before treatment and the existence of comorbid conditions.

Abstract

Abstract: Typhoid fever is a gastrointestinal infection caused by Sallmonellal typhi and Sallmonella serovar Paratyphi A (an important inhibitor of typhoid fever). Typhoid fever can be diagnosed based on clinical signs and symptoms, and laboratory tests. Leukopenia occurs due to the invasion of the bacterium Salmonella typhi into hematopoietic organs such as lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and bone marrow, thereby inhibiting hematopoiesis. The decrease in platelet production in the bone marrow is caused by viral infections, the destruction of platelet precursor cells in the bone marrow, radiation, aplastic bone marrow, bone marrow disorders or cancers, and other conditions that inhibit cell production in the bone marrow. This study aims to determine the relationship between total leukocyte count and platelet count in relation to Tubex-TF positivity in typhoid patients at RSUD dr. Pirngadi Medan from 2018 to 2021.This research uses an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample consisted of typhoid patients at RSUD Dr. Pirngadi Medan from 2018-2021, which met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, totaling 71 patients.Analysis of the data was conducted using the chi-square test for both univariate and bivariate analyses. The total leukocyte count was found to be elevated in the case of a positive Tubex-TF in a patient with typhoid fever.
