Abstract

This research was motivated by the low listening ability of fifth-grade students, which was caused by the use of inappropriate teaching materials. To address this, listening materials based on audio-visual media were developed, integrating positive character education to improve students’ listening skills. The objective of this development was to produce valid, practical, and effective teaching materials. This research was research and development (R&D) utilizing the 4-D model, consisting of the stages of defining, designing, developing, and disseminating. Data on validity were obtained through RPP validation sheets and teaching materials, while practicality data were collected through lesson plan implementation, observation sheets, and teacher and student response questionnaires. Effectiveness was measured from students’ learning activities and outcomes, including character assessment and listening skills. The results showed that the developed teaching materials were very valid, practical based on teacher observations and questionnaires, and effective, with 93% of students able to listen effectively using the audiovisual media. Based on these findings, the listening materials based on audio-visual media for grade V elementary students can be declared valid, practical, and effective.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of E-learning implementation on teaching efficacy, students’ interest in learning, and the influence of students’ interest on teaching effectiveness. This research was a quantitative study using a questionnaire design, with a sample of 99 students from SMK (Vocational School) Negeri in Pekanbaru. Data were analyzed using path analysis, and the results indicated that the implementation of E-learning influenced students’ learning interest by 26.2%, which was categorized as a low influence because 73.8% was determined by other factors. E-learning implementation also influenced teachers’ teaching effectiveness by 25.7%, again in the low category because 73.7% was affected by other factors. Furthermore, students’ learning interest influenced teachers’ teaching effectiveness by 24.5%, with 74.3% determined by other factors. The combined contribution of E-learning and students’ learning interest to teaching effectiveness was 33.3%, still categorized as low, as 66.7% was influenced by other factors. Based on these findings, this study recommends that school observers and policy stakeholders actively conduct training, workshops, and other initiatives to improve E-learning, thereby enhancing students’ learning interest and teaching effectiveness.

Abstract

The goal of this study was to describe the form of children's responsible attitude in Desa Paren, Jepara. This study utilized a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method. Parental patterns are the ways in which parents fulfill their roles as caretakers, educators, and companions to their children, and can be categorized into three types: democratic, authoritarian, and permissive. A child's responsibility refers to an individual’s attitude toward fulfilling duties and being prepared to bear the consequences of their words and actions. The subjects of this study were four children aged 8–10 years. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation and analyzed qualitatively using the concept references from Miles and Huberman. The results indicated that the type of parenting applied influenced the development of responsibility in children. One child who received an authoritarian upbringing exhibited a low sense of responsibility. One child with a democratic upbringing showed a responsible attitude and the ability to solve problems independently. Two children who experienced permissive parenting demonstrated a reasonably good sense of responsibility.

Abstract

This study aimed to obtain an overview of students' critical thinking processes in solving mathematical problems based on visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. The identification of critical thinking processes was guided by the IDEALS steps, namely Identify, Define, Enumerate, Analyze, List, and Self-Correct. The research subjects consisted of three students, each with the highest score in visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. This study used a qualitative descriptive method with data collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and students' test results. Technical triangulation was employed to validate the data. The results showed that in the steps of identifying, enumerating, analyzing, listing, and self-correcting, the critical thinking processes of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic students had similarities in solving story problems. Differences were most evident in the define step, particularly in how and when students explained the shape of the aquarium based on facts and logical reasoning. Another difference was seen in the accuracy of re-examining answers, with the auditory student adding notes to the response. The kinesthetic student demonstrated a better critical thinking process than the visual student in the define step, while the visual student outperformed the auditory student, who showed doubt about the question.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the role of online learning for grade III students of SD Free Methodist 2 Medan in the academic year 2020/2021. This research was descriptive qualitative research, with the subjects being third-grade students of SD Free Methodist 2 Medan. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Based on the research results, it was concluded that online learning was effectively carried out during the pandemic to break the transmission of the coronavirus. It was suggested that teachers create complete modules so that students would not need to search for answers on Google and could instead refer to their notes. During this period, teachers should actively engage with students, such as through video calls, rather than only sending assignments via WhatsApp groups. The results also indicated that online learning helped anticipate student boredom, as students better understood the material when explained directly by teachers, while in many cases, parents assisted in explaining the material.
