Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Modified Free Inquiry learning model on students' critical thinking skills in the subject of Science in grade IV of SD Negeri 097820 Bah Jambi in the 2023/2024 Academic Year. The independent variable in this study is the Modified Free Inquiry learning model (X) and the dependent variable in this study is students' critical thinking skills (Y). The research method used is an experimental method with a quantitative research type and the number of samples in this study is 25 students based on the Saturated Sampling technique. The research instrument is a questionnaire, a multiple-choice test instrument. The results of students' critical thinking skills show an average pretest of 64.84 while the average posttest value is 82.80 and for the questionnaire students get an average value of 90.24. Furthermore, the hypothesis tester shows that the t count is 6.599 while the t table is 2.069, it is proven that the hypothesis is greater, so Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. With a determination coefficient value of 0.65, it can be explained that students' critical thinking is 65% determined by the magnitude of the modified free inquiry learning model and 35% is caused by other factors not examined in this study. Based on this, it shows that there is an influence between the Modified Free Inquiry learning model and students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

English is considered a foreign language in Indonesia and is required to be studied from primary school through university. Almost all modern Islamic boarding schools require learners to speak English and Arabic on a daily basis. This paper aims to discuss how current Islamic boarding school students' speaking abilities have improved as a result of their use of digital media. The writer selected this medium based on a preliminary investigation that revealed learners' reluctance to use the English language, yet their delight in using Arabic in their daily lives. This study employed a quantitative approach, surveying 23 eighth-grade students using a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire to gather data on their experiences and self-confidence in speaking English through digital media. The use of digital media in the classroom inspires students to speak English. Many of our students continue to struggle with proper sentence construction and pronunciation in English. In other words, this study will look at how EFL students' speaking skills have gotten better because they use digital media. The results suggest that digital media has a substantial impact on students' pronunciation, vocabulary retention, sentence construction, and general confidence in speaking English. The findings suggest that incorporating digital media into English language instruction can significantly improve learners' speaking abilities when studying English as a foreign language.

Abstract

Responsibility must be owned by every student, including in participating in learning. However, in reality, in class IX of one of the Christian schools in Lampung, it was found that students still lacked responsibility in carrying out their role as students. Efforts that can be made by teachers to develop student character are by applying learning methods, one of which is group discussion. This research aims to describe the implementation of group discussions in developing the responsibility of ninth-grade students. The research method uses descriptive qualitative. The responsibility of grade IX students during learning can be developed through the application of group discussion methods with preparation, discussion, and closing stages. Indicators of student responsibility seen after applying the group discussion method are students actively participating in learning, following the instructions given, cooperating well, and collecting assignments on time. Students are created in the image and likeness of God, and must certainly be responsible to God. Through the application of learning methods, Christian teachers will lead students to be responsible for all their actions, including being responsible to God. Suggestions for further research are to estimate the time used for discussion according to the topic discussed and to examine the application of group discussions on students' cognitive and skill aspects.

Abstract

This study describes teachers' perception of online synchronous teaching as an alternative delivery format during the pandemic in specialized curricula in elementary schools in the Philippines. This study uses a qualitative research design and employs the case study method. The methods for gathering data are one-on-one online interviews, face-to-face focus group discussions, and analysis of classroom artifacts, which include weekly home learning plans and lesson modules. The study uses thematic analysis to analyze the data and the triangulation method to validate the generated results. The perceptions were grounded on the reported challenges and coping strategies employed by the participants in addressing the emerging gaps in education delivery during the pandemic, resulting in two major themes: views of online teaching and professional identity.Furthermore, a noticeable unfolding of teachers' professional identity during the pandemic was manifested. The results provide empirical evidence for developing teachers' professional development, well-being, teaching perception, teacher identity, and professionalism.

Abstract

The development of technology has triggered various innovations in the world of education, especially in learning media which plays an important role. With the increasing need for digital-based learning to support distance learning, the development of digital technology-based learning media is very important. In addition, case study-based learning is an important aspect in improving students' critical thinking skills. To answer these challenges, Lumi Education integrated case study-based learning media was designed. This research aims to develop learning media based on case studies integrated with Lumi Education to improve students' critical thinking skills. This research was conducted at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Riau University. This research procedure follows the 4-D development model. However, it only reaches the development stage, which includes three stages: Define, Design and Develop.Defining stage includes analyzing needs, developing case concepts, designing case structures and determining supporting materials, Second, the Design Stage which includes making materials, designing learning media based on case studies and media validation by experts. From the results of media validation by media validator material validators, the case study-based learning media integrated with Lumi Education is categorized as feasible and can be applied in the lecture process. This development produces practical and high-quality media products that aim to improve students' critical thinking skills.
