Abstract

Students' responses to the expressive speech acts delivered by teachers in classroom interactions vary significantly, ranging from positive to negative feedback. This is often influenced by the appropriateness of the speech types and the communication strategies employed by the teacher. This study aims to analyze the variations of expressive speech acts and the speaking strategies used by Indonesian language teachers during the learning session on reviewing fictional works in class VIII of SMP Negeri 1 Pasaman. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data consisting of lingual units from teacher utterances containing expressive elements. Data collection was carried out through the techniques of non-participant observation (SBLC), recording, and note-taking. The research findings revealed 60 data points encompassing five categories of expressive speech acts: praising, blaming, apologizing, thanking, and criticizing. Furthermore, the speaking strategies implemented included bald on record, positive politeness, negative politeness, and off-record strategies. The results of the analysis indicate that praising speech acts and bald on record strategies were the most dominant communication instruments in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of applying the LOK-R learning model on students' cognitive learning outcomes in history lessons for class X at SMA Negeri 14 Pekanbaru. The research uses a quasi-experimental method with a Pre-test–Post-test Non-Equivalent Control Group design. The instruments used are learning outcome tests in the experimental and control classes. The research results show that the LOK-R learning model can be effectively applied in history teaching and has a significant impact on students' learning outcomes. This is evidenced by the t-test with a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.00 < 0.05. Additionally, the N-Gain value of the experimental class is 0.7024 (70%, high category), thus the LOK-R model is proven to effectively improve independent learning outcomes and is suitable for implementation in schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' speaking skills through storytelling activities in Indonesian language learning for eighth-grade junior high school students. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The subjects of this study were eighth-grade students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique used the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that students' speaking skills were in the good category. The confidence indicator obtained the highest score, while intonation still needs improvement. Storytelling activities were proven to improve students' ability to speak fluently, use proper pronunciation, and organize stories coherently. In addition, this activity also increased students' confidence and participation in the learning process. Therefore, storytelling can be an effective alternative learning strategy to improve students' speaking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of implementing the Creative Problem Solving (CPS) learning model in improving students’ creative thinking abilities on the topic of sound waves. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with a post-test only control group design. The research subjects consisted of two eleventh-grade classes at SMAN 15 Pekanbaru, namely an experimental class that applied the CPS model and a control class that used conventional learning. The research instrument was a creative thinking ability test that included four indicators: fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. The results showed that the creative thinking ability of students in the experimental class was higher than that of students in the control class. The average score of creative thinking ability in the experimental class reached the creative category, while the control class was in the fairly creative category. Statistical testing indicated a significant difference between the two groups. These findings indicate that the CPS model is effective in encouraging students to think both divergently and convergently in a systematic way in physics learning, particularly on abstract topics such as sound waves. Therefore, the CPS model can be used as an innovative alternative in physics learning to improve students’ creative thinking abilities as part of 21st-century skills.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of enhancing students’ learning motivation in Islamic Religious Education (PAI), as motivation significantly influences students’ learning outcomes and engagement. The problem identified is the varying levels of student motivation, where some students are active while others remain passive during the learning process. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the strategies employed by PAI teachers in fostering students’ learning motivation based on constructivist theory at SMAN I Belitang II. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The informants include the vice principal for curriculum affairs, PAI teachers, and students. The findings reveal that teachers implement constructivist-based strategies such as Problem Based Learning (PBL), group discussions, contextual teaching related to daily life, and the use of diverse learning resources. In addition, teachers act as facilitators and motivators by providing guidance, encouragement, and opportunities for students to actively participate in the learning process. These strategies have been proven to increase students’ activeness, participation, and overall learning motivation in PAI subjects. Supporting factors include teacher creativity and student engagement, while inhibiting factors involve differences in students’ abilities, limited time, and uneven participation. Overall, the application of constructivist-based strategies contributes positively to improving students’ learning motivation and creating a more meaningful and student-centered learning environment.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in enhancing students' environmental awareness at MI Al-Khairat Biromaru, while simultaneously identifying the impact of that role on students' environmental behavioral changes across cognitive, affective, and psychomotor dimensions. This study employed a qualitative approach with a single case study design. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with the PAI teacher, school principal, and students, as well as documentation study. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive model developed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, encompassing the stages of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing, with data validity ensured through source triangulation and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that PAI teachers at MI Al-Khairat Biromaru carry out multidimensional roles, functioning as instructors who integrate Islamic values regarding the environment into learning activities, as genuine role models in environmentally friendly behavior, as motivators who drive environmental awareness programs, and as mentors who cultivate students' awareness on a personal and spiritual level. These roles have a significant impact on the formation of students' understanding, caring attitudes, and concrete behaviors in maintaining the cleanliness and sustainability of the madrasah environment consistently and independently, while simultaneously giving rise to a deeply rooted positive environmental culture within the institution. The findings of this study contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 on quality education, Goal 13 on climate action, and Goal 15 on the preservation of terrestrial ecosystems, through education grounded in Islamic values from an early age.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the perceptions of fifth-grade students regarding the implementation of environmental education in elementary schools. The focus of the study includes students’ understanding of environmental topics, their attitudes toward learning activities, and the application of environmentally friendly behaviors in daily school life. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, questionnaires, and interviews with fifth-grade students. The findings indicate that most students responded positively to the implementation of environmental education. Students were aware of the benefits of environment-related activities, such as maintaining school cleanliness and participating in environmental care programs. However, the understanding and application of environmentally responsible behavior among some students still need to be improved to ensure sustainability. Based on the results, it can be concluded that students’ perceptions of the implementation of environmental education in Grade V at SDN No. 166 Inpres Bontorita tend to be positive. These findings suggest that environmental education has been understood and its benefits have been experienced by students, although further efforts are required to strengthen its practical application.

Abstract

Based on the results of preliminary observations conducted at SMA Negeri 11 Kota Jambi, a problem was identified in the form of low levels of students’ civic disposition, particularly among Grade XI students in the Pancasila Education subject. This study aims to determine the effect of implementing the Project Citizen learning model on students’ civic disposition. The background of this research is based on the importance of developing students’ civic disposition, which is still considered relatively low. This study employed a quantitative approach using a true experimental design. The population consisted of all Grade XI students, with two classes selected as samples: Class XI F4 as the experimental group and Class XI F5 as the control group, with a total of 72 students. Data were collected through the distribution of questionnaires. The obtained data were then analyzed using statistical techniques, namely the independent sample t-test to test the hypothesis. The results of the analysis showed that the value of t-count was greater than t-table (9.568 > 1.666), and the significance value (2-tailed) was 0.000 < 0.05. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the null hypothesis (H₀) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) is accepted. Thus, there is a significant effect of the implementation of the Project Citizen learning model on improving students’ civic disposition in the Pancasila Education subject in Grade XI at SMA Negeri 11 Kota Jambi.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the application of the Problem-Based Learning model in soccer learning and its impact on learning outcomes, motivation, and critical thinking skills of students at SMA Negeri 1 Medan. This study used a qualitative, descriptive approach. The research subjects were determined purposively, consisting of physical education teachers and students. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques. The results indicate that the application of the Problem-Based Learning model can increase student engagement, understanding, and motivation through interactive, problem-based learning. Despite obstacles such as time constraints, uneven participation, and limited resources, this model remains effective in improving the quality of soccer learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, Create) learning model to improve critical thinking skills in science in fifth grade students of Tegalrejo 1 Yogyakarta State Elementary School. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a nonequivalent control group design. The research subjects consisted of 57 students divided into experimental and control classes, each consisting of 28 students for class A and 29 students for class B. Data collection was carried out using a critical thinking test instrument based on basic clarification indicators, having a supporting basis for argumentation, inference, advanced clarification, strategies and tactics. Data analysis used descriptive statistics, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and independent tests until t-tests. The results showed that the average value in the control class was at 73.541 while the average in the experimental class was at 90.227. The results of the independent test until t-test showed a Sig. value. (2-tailed) < 0.05 then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted (the use of the independent variable (RADEC Model) is effective on the dependent variable (Science and Natural Sciences Critical Thinking). Thus, the RADEC learning model (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, Create) is effective in improving students' critical thinking in Science and Natural Sciences.
