Abstract

This study was motivated by the phenomenon of declining politeness among students in the digital era, which is reflected in the gradual disappearance of the “Tabe” cultural practice within the school environment. The main problem identified at UPT SPF SDN Pampang is the low level of students’ ethics, both in behavior and speech, caused by the influence of social media content and the lack of filtering toward external cultures. This study aimed to formulate concrete and systematic strategies to revitalize the culture of Tabe’ through the perspective of Ki Hadjar Dewantara’s educational philosophy in order to restore students’ character and moral values. The methodology employed in this study was qualitative research with a phenomenological approach to explore more deeply the authentic experiences of teachers regarding changes in students’ behavior. The research subjects were selected through purposive sampling, namely classroom teachers who interact daily with students and thoroughly understand the students’ character conditions at school. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, participatory observations of students’ spontaneous behavior, and documentation of habituation activities. The findings revealed that the consistency level of students in practicing the Tabe’ culture ranged only from 10% to 40%. Efforts to revitalize this culture were carried out by providing direct role models (Ing Ngarsa Sung Tuladha), in which teachers consistently used expressions such as “Please,” “Sorry,” “Thank You,” and “Excuse Me.” In addition, the use of video and audio technology to introduce local songs containing moral messages, as well as collaboration between schools and parents, became key factors in guiding children according to their natural development and character. Therefore, it can be concluded that the revitalization of local wisdom integrated with the philosophy of national education can serve as an effective moral safeguard for students amid the challenges of social change and the digital era. Keywords: Ki Hadjar Dewantara, character education, politeness, elementary education, Tabe’ culture.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of learning technology is driving fundamental changes in educational processes. Amid the ease of accessing information through various digital platforms, a fundamental question arises regarding how students perceive the meaning of teachers' presence. This study aims to explore students' perceptions across various educational levels regarding the role and significance of teachers' presence in the era of learning technology. A qualitative research method was employed in this study. The findings indicate that students continue to regard teachers' presence as an irreplaceable element, particularly in emotional, moral, and motivational aspects that technology cannot fulfill. This study contributes to the understanding of teacher-student relationships in the digital era and provides implications for the development of educational policy.

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence in elementary education presents both opportunities and challenges, particularly because its use is not only related to learning effectiveness but also concerns the development of students’ character, learning ethics, and humanistic values. This study aims to describe and understand the ethical dimensions and educational philosophy underlying the utilization of Artificial Intelligence at UPT SPF SDN Tamamaung I. This research employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design, as it focused on the experiences, perspectives, and interpretations of participants regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence in the context of elementary education. The research subjects were selected purposively, consisting of the principal and teachers who possessed experience or knowledge related to the implementation of Artificial Intelligence in teaching and learning activities. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, while the data were analyzed using phenomenological analysis through meaning categorization, identification of essential themes, and interpretation of the core experiences of the participants. The findings revealed that Artificial Intelligence is perceived as a supportive learning tool that can assist teachers in searching for information, developing teaching materials, and enriching instructional variations. However, its implementation also raises ethical concerns, such as the potential for student dependency, decreased learning autonomy, issues of academic honesty, and the protection of personal data. From the perspective of educational philosophy, Artificial Intelligence is not viewed as a replacement for teachers, but rather as a tool that must be utilized selectively, responsibly, and consistently oriented toward character building, human values, and pedagogical relationships. Therefore, the use of Artificial Intelligence in elementary schools should be guided through teacher supervision and clear school policies to ensure alignment with the humanistic goals of education.

Abstract

Young children are those who are given the freedom to express their feelings without pressure. This study aims to determine the effect of the role-play method on the self-esteem of 5- to 6-year-old children at Kalam Kudus 2 Private Christian Kindergarten in Medan. This study is based on the phenomenon that many children are still unable to openly express their feelings, are afraid to express themselves, and tend to prioritize their friends’ feelings over their own. The method used is a quantitative approach with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The study population includes all 21 students in Group B. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. The sample in this study consisted of 10 children. The instrument used to collect data was an observation sheet measuring self-esteem indicators, including feelings of acceptance, competence, and worthiness. Data analysis was conducted using the non-parametric Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results of the study indicate an effect on the children’s self-esteem inthe experimental class after receiving the role-play method treatment. The mean pretest score for the experimental class changed from 19.3 to 24.3 on the posttest, with a difference of 5 points. The results of the hypothesis test showed a significance value of 0.0004, which is smaller than 0.05 (p < 0.05), meaning the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the role-play method has a positive effect on the self-esteem of children aged 5–6 years because it provides them with the opportunity to express their feelings, use their imagination freely, and experience social acceptance through role-playing.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the misconceptions of elementary school grade IV students on the material of substance forms and their changes and to examine the effectiveness of the use of two-tier diagnostic tests. This study uses a qualitative method with a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach to relevant scientific articles. Data were collected through literature studies and analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques. The results of the study show that misconceptions are still found in many students, especially in understanding the nature of substances, distinguishing physical and chemical changes, and associating concepts with phenomena in daily life. The factors that cause misconception are students who are easier to understand real things than abstract concepts, learning methods that are not suitable, and the limitations of the evaluation instruments used. The use of two-tier diagnostic tests is considered more effective in identifying misconceptions because it can show the answers as well as the student's reasons. This study provides an overview of evaluation instruments that can be used to improve students' understanding of concepts.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the demands of 21st-century learning which requires the integration of digital technology to improve the quality of the teaching and learning process in elementary schools. Science and Social Studies (IPAS) learning in the Merdeka Curriculum is expected to encourage students to think critically, solve problems, and actively participate in learning activities. However, based on observations and interviews conducted in several elementary schools in Region II of Lubuk Kilangan District, Padang City, it was found that learning activities were still dominated by conventional teaching methods and printed worksheets, resulting in limited student engagement. In addition, the use of digital technology in learning has not been systematically integrated with innovative learning models such as Problem Based Learning (PBL). Therefore, this study aims to develop an electronic student worksheet (E-LKPD) assisted by the Wordwall media using the Problem Based Learning model in IPAS learning for fourth-grade elementary school students. The developed E-LKPD is designed to facilitate students in identifying problems, conducting investigations, collaborating in discussions, and presenting solutions systematically through interactive digital activities. Wordwall is utilized to provide educational games and interactive learning activities that can enhance students’ motivation and engagement in the learning process. By integrating the PBL model with Wordwall media, the developed E-LKPD is expected to become an innovative learning medium that supports more effective IPAS learning, improves students’ critical thinking skills, and encourages active participation in classroom activities. The results of this development are expected to serve as an alternative digital learning medium that is practical, engaging, and relevant to the needs of learning in the digital era.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the research problem concerning how the implementation of graduate profile dimensions contributes to students’ character development from a philosophical perspective at UPT SPF SDN Mattoangin II, as well as the strategies, student responses, and challenges encountered during the process. The purpose of this study was to describe the implementation of graduate profile dimensions, analyze the strategies employed by teachers, and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in students’ character development. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The research subjects consisted of teachers and sixth-grade students selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data collection was conducted through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out descriptively to obtain an in-depth understanding of the phenomena being investigated. The findings revealed that the implementation of graduate profile dimensions had been integrated into the learning process through planning, implementation, and evaluation stages. The main strategies applied included modeling, habituation, and the use of active learning methods such as discussions and question-and-answer activities. Students demonstrated positive responses through behavioral changes, including increased discipline, responsibility, independence, cooperation skills, and the development of critical reasoning abilities. However, several challenges were identified, including the lack of consistency between school and home environments and the influence of digital media. The study concludes that the implementation of graduate profile dimensions provides a positive impact on students’ character development. Nevertheless, further reinforcement is still needed through stronger collaboration between schools and parents, as well as the improvement of students’ digital literacy.
