Abstract

Pancasila Education instruction in elementary schools—specifically regarding the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) element—often relies on conventional media, which fails to adequately foster student engagement and learning motivation. This study aimed to develop a Powtoon-based animated video medium covering the topic "Recognizing Regional Characteristics" that is valid, practical, and effective for use in Grade V elementary school classrooms. A mixed-methods approach was employed using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) development model. Trial subjects included Grade V students from two trial schools (SDN 02 Kampung Olo and SDN 19 Kampung Olo) and one research school (SDN 20 Kurao Pagang) within Cluster I, Nanggalo District, Padang City. Data were collected through observations, interviews, expert validation questionnaires, teacher and student practicality questionnaires, and pre- and post-tests, followed by descriptive quantitative and qualitative analysis. The results indicated that the media was highly valid based on assessments by subject matter experts (98.33%), linguists (97.5%), and media experts (100%). Practicality testing at the trial schools yielded a "highly practical" rating based on teacher (94%) and student (94.5%) responses. Effectiveness testing showed an increase in average student scores from 62.17 (pre-test) to 88.26 (post-test), with a learning mastery rate of 91.30% at the trial schools and 91.67% at the research school; both results fell into the "highly effective" category. It is concluded that the Powtoon animated video is a suitable alternative medium for teaching the NKRI element of Pancasila Education in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' learning difficulties in Civic Education (PKn), particularly on the topic of rights and obligations, in Grade IV of SD Negeri 69 Banda Aceh. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The subjects consisted of 32 fourth-grade students, while the classroom teacher served as the interview informant. Data were collected through documentation analysis and interviews and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings showed that only 8 students achieved learning mastery, while 24 students had not yet met the minimum mastery criteria. Students experienced difficulties in distinguishing between the concepts of rights, obligations, and responsibilities. These difficulties were influenced by internal factors, such as limited conceptual understanding, and external factors, including the use of learning media. Teachers addressed these challenges by applying Problem Based Learning (PBL), using concrete learning media, and providing individual guidance

Abstract

Interest in learning is the entry point of any meaningful instructional process, yet third-grade mathematics classrooms are frequently dominated by one-way lecturing that leaves pupils drowsy and disengaged. This study examines the effect of giving rewards and ice breaking on students' interest in learning mathematics at MIS AlHadi II, Kasihan District. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design of the intact-group comparison type was applied. Through purposive sampling, 46 third graders were involved: class III-A (23 pupils) as the experimental group and class III-B (23 pupils) as the control group. Data were gathered through observation, interviews with the homeroom teachers, and a four-point Likert scale questionnaire of 26 valid items (Cronbach's Alpha 0.883). Analysis proceeded through instrument testing, prerequisite testing (normality, homogeneity, linearity), and hypothesis testing using simple and multiple linear regression with SPSS Statistics 23. The findings show that rewards significantly affect interest in learning mathematics (Sig. 0.000; R square 0.275 or 27.5%), ice breaking exerts a stronger effect (Sig. 0.000; R square 0.571 or 57.1%), and both variables jointly explain 58.6% of the variance in learning interest (Sig. 0.000; R square 0.586). The mean score of the experimental class rose from 85 to 88 across two meetings, while the control class moved from 78 to 80. The marginal contribution of rewards once ice breaking is present turns out to be small, suggesting that physical and emotional reengagement matters more than material appreciation for young learners.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low learning interest of students in Pancasila and Civic Education (PPKn) subject in class XI Visual Communication Design I at SMK Negeri 2 Bone. Learning that tends to be monotonous and less varied causes students to be passive, less attentive, and not actively involved in the learning process. Based on constructivist learning theory, innovative and student-centered learning strategies can increase student engagement and learning interest. This study aims to analyze the strategies used by teachers in increasing student learning interest in PPKn learning. A descriptive qualitative approach was used with research subjects consisting of PPKn teachers and students of class XI Visual Communication Design I. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the teacher applied various learning strategies, including the use of varied methods (group discussions, question and answer, presentations, and Problem Based Learning), utilization of learning media (PowerPoint, videos, images, and textbooks), providing motivation and appreciation, personal approaches, and creating an active and enjoyable learning atmosphere. These strategies had a positive impact on increasing student activeness, participation, and enthusiasm. Although there are still obstacles such as lack of student concentration, use of mobile phones, and differences in student abilities, the strategies implemented are considered effective in increasing student learning interest in PPKn learning.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examined the effect of the Direct Instruction model on the basic soccer skills of Grade X students at SMK Pandu 2 Ciampea. The study was motivated by students’ limited mastery of passing, dribbling, and shooting and by a learning process that had not yet provided sufficiently systematic demonstrations, guided practice, and corrective feedback. A quantitative pre-experimental approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design was used. The sample consisted of 32 students selected through cluster random sampling. Performance tests assessed the preparation, execution, and follow-through phases of passing, dribbling, and shooting. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, a homogeneity test, and paired-samples t-tests with SPSS 27. The statistical output indicated that the data met the parametric assumptions and that post-intervention performance differed significantly from pre-intervention performance for all three skills (p < .001). The findings show that Direct Instruction can support the acquisition of structured motor skills when the teacher presents clear models, organizes practice progressively, checks performance continuously, and provides immediate feedback. The model is therefore relevant as an instructional option for basic soccer learning in vocational secondary schools, while future studies should use a control group and retention measures.

Abstract

Spatial thinking is one of the essential cognitive competencies in geography education because it enables students to understand spatial concepts, use representational tools, and reason about the spatial relationships among phenomena on the Earth’s surface. However, various studies have shown that the spatial thinking skills of Indonesian high school students remain suboptimal, particularly in the aspects of visualization, pattern analysis, and spatial interconnection. A similar condition was also found at SMA Negeri 1 Gaung Anak Serka, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau Province, where students still experienced difficulties in reading maps, relating the location of a region to its physical and social conditions, and explaining geospatial phenomena spatially. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Geo-STAR Model and analyze its effect on improving the spatial thinking skills of Grade X Phase E students on the Atmosphere topic. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample consisted of class X.3 as the experimental group and class X.1 as the control group, selected through purposive sampling. The Geo-STAR Model was implemented through six learning syntaxes that integrated Google Earth, National Geographic MapMaker, Assemblr Edu (Augmented Reality), Mentimeter, and Seesaw. The results showed that the model was implemented according to the syntax and was able to create interactive, contextual, and spatial-exploration-based learning. There was a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores in the experimental class with a significance value of 0.000. The average N-Gain of the experimental class reached 0.86 and was categorized as high, while the control class obtained an average N-Gain of 0.68, which fell into the medium category. Thus, the Geo-STAR Model has been proven to have a positive and significant effect on improving students’ spatial thinking skills in geography learning on the Atmosphere topic.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by diorama media on the science learning outcomes of fifth-grade elementary school students. The study employed a quasi-experimental method using a nonequivalent control group design involving an experimental class and a control class. The participants consisted of 60 fifth-grade students at SDN Cimahi 01, Cicantayan District, Sukabumi Regency, with 30 students in each class. Data were collected through pretest and posttest instruments and analyzed using the N-Gain test, Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene’s homogeneity test, and Independent Sample T-test. The results showed that the average score of the experimental class increased from 75.7 to 85.3, while the control class increased from 74.1 to 76.1. The N-Gain value of the experimental class was 0.381 (moderate category), whereas the control class obtained 0.104 (low category). Furthermore, the Independent Sample T-test produced a significance value of 0.00 (<0.05), indicating that the Problem Based Learning model assisted by diorama media had a significant effect on students’ science learning outcomes. Therefore, the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model supported by diorama media can serve as an effective instructional alternative to improve science learning outcomes in elementary schools, although its effectiveness should be further optimized through more consistent and sustainable implementation.

Abstract

Arts education at the elementary level is often reduced to a ceremonial year-end performance, overlooking pupils’ psychological well-being. This article examines the "Paraklita" model, a holistic arts-management framework implemented through the cross-age, interest-based co-curricular program (Kelas Minat) at SD Cerdas Muthahhari (SCM), Bandung, functioning simultaneously as a professional festival-production system and a psychological mitigation strategy against the BLAST phenomenon (Bored, Lonely, Angry-Afraid, Stressed, Tired) commonly experienced by pupils under rigid academic pressure. Using a descriptive-analytical qualitative case study design, data were collected through document analysis (production proposals, budget plans, Kelas Minat curriculum records), participant observation, and informal interviews with key informants (the principal and program coordinators), then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. Findings show that professional-standard production management, planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling, combined with teachers’ on-stage involvement as a psychological safety net, mitigates stage-anxiety-related trauma, generates the psychological state of Flow, and reinforces the six pillars of self-esteem, particularly self-assertiveness and self-acceptance. The model has remained resilient across three national curriculum shifts (KTSP, K-13, and Kurikulum Merdeka), suggesting that teacher-initiated, philosophically grounded arts management can be more stable than volatile top-down policy in sustaining pupils’ mental well-being and achievement.

Abstract

School culture plays an essential role in shaping students' character through the internalization of values, norms, habits, and positive behaviors within the school environment. However, various disciplinary violations and inappropriate behaviors among students indicate that the implementation of school culture has not yet optimally supported character development. This study aimed to determine the effect of school culture on students' character formation, measure the magnitude of its contribution, and provide an overview of strengthening school culture in supporting character education. The study employed a quantitative approach using a correlational survey method. The population consisted of students at SMK Jakarta Pusat 1, with 34 respondents selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation technique. The findings revealed a positive and significant effect of school culture on students' character formation, with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.554. The obtained correlation coefficient exceeded the critical value of the r-table at both the 5% significance level (0.344) and the 1% significance level (0.442), indicating that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. These findings suggest that a positive and consistently implemented school culture contributes to the development of students' character, particularly in fostering discipline, responsibility, and positive attitudes in the school environment.
