Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of Christian spiritual activities, analyze their role and significance in fostering students' spiritual values, and examine their impact on strengthening the faith and character of twelfth-grade students at SMA Isen Mulang amid the challenges of globalization. The background of this study is based on the reality that the era of globalization has brought greater access to information and the influx of various foreign cultures, which often conflict with Christian values. Therefore, a strong spiritual foundation is needed so that students are not easily influenced by the negative effects of modern developments. This research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. Data were collected through direct observation of spiritual activities, in-depth interviews with students and religious education teachers, as well as documentation studies related to the school's spiritual programs. The findings reveal that the spiritual activities implemented include weekly worship services held every Friday afternoon. Based on expert perspectives, these spiritual activities have proven to be highly important and effective in instilling spiritual values such as faith, love, honesty, responsibility, and hope in God. The implementation of these activities serves as a means of character formation, faith development, and personal growth for students. Through these programs, students are equipped with the ability to distinguish between right and wrong values, critically evaluate global information, and maintain their identity as children of God while living in a diverse and open society. This study concludes that Christian spiritual activities constitute a fundamental pillar of character education at SMA Isen Mulang, complementing students' intellectual development while cultivating strong spiritual maturity to face increasingly complex life challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the causes and forms of classroom disruption that emerged during a game-based mathematics lesson for second-grade students at SDN Geneng 02, and to examine the extent to which the practice reflects the principles of joyful learning. A qualitative descriptive case-study approach was employed, with data collected through structured observation of one classroom teacher and twenty second-grade students during a lesson on counting, reading, and writing numbers 51-100. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the use of concrete media (straws and a number board) combined with a game-based worksheet ("math battle") successfully increased student enthusiasm, participation, and self-confidence. However, the high level of enthusiasm also produced a noisy and less orderly classroom atmosphere, partly because the teacher did not conduct an ice-breaking transition after the worksheet activity and skipped the group presentation stage. These omissions weakened opportunities for emotional regulation and reinforcement of understanding. The study concludes that joyful learning in mathematics instruction is not merely about generating excitement through games, but requires a deliberate balance between engagement and structured classroom management, including transitional activities such as ice breaking, to sustain a conducive and meaningful learning environment.

Abstract

Focus is one of the fundamental prerequisites for meaningful learning, particularly in mathematics, a subject frequently perceived by elementary school students as abstract and difficult to grasp. This qualitative case study investigates the factors contributing to the low learning focus of second-grade students during mathematics lessons at a public elementary school. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with the homeroom teacher and direct classroom observation, then analyzed using an interactive model of data condensation, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that students generally demonstrate high enthusiasm at the beginning of instruction, yet their attention markedly declines after approximately twenty to twenty-five minutes, particularly when the material demands deeper conceptual understanding. This decline is shaped by an interplay of internal and external factors: individual differences in mathematical comprehension, the concrete-operational characteristics of second-grade learners who still favor hands-on activity, peer distraction, and the extent to which concrete instructional media and effective classroom management are employed by the teacher. Teachers' mitigation strategies—approaching distracted students, posing direct questions, offering motivation, and involving students in manipulative-based activities—were found to partially restore attention, although they have not fully resolved the issue given its multicausal nature. These findings underscore the pedagogical importance of designing mathematics instruction that is interactive, media-supported, well-managed, and responsive to the developmental characteristics of young learners.

Abstract

This qualitative descriptive study aims to analyze the exploratory behavior and growth mindset profile of elementary school students while solving an authentic structural-engineering problem through lego block play. The study addresses a gap in the literature, given that most existing research on constructive block play concentrates on early childhood cognitive and social-emotional outcomes, while empirical evidence on exploratory problem-solving behavior and growth mindset among upper-grade elementary students remains limited. Six fifth-grade students were purposively selected and engaged in an individual free-construction task, followed by a collaborative “Structure Detective” mission requiring them to design a lego bridge that met defined engineering constraints. Data were collected through a five-indicator behavioral observation rubric (curiosity, fluency, flexibility, resilience, and independent trial-and-error), semi-structured interviews built on growth mindset indicators, and reflective journals, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model with source triangulation. Findings indicate that most students displayed well-developed exploratory behavior, particularly resilience after structural collapse, and expressed beliefs consistent with a growth mindset, such as preferring challenging tasks, persisting after failure, and treating mistakes as a source of learning. Two students demonstrated exploratory behavior from the outset, three others required a brief warm-up period before engaging spontaneously, and one student displayed a mixed mindset profile that combined effort attribution with residual fixed beliefs about innate ability. The study concludes that open-ended, low-stakes lego-based engineering challenges can serve as an effective pedagogical medium for cultivating twenty-first-century problem-solving dispositions in the elementary classroom.

Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is a core element of English language learning, playing a crucial role in supporting speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. However, English vocabulary among junior high school students in Indonesia remains relatively limited, partly due to conventional teaching methods that fail to actively engage students. This study aims to examine the impact of TikTok educational videos on the English vocabulary mastery of seventh-grade students at MTs Qaryatul Jihad, Central Bengkulu. This research adopted a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design (non-equivalent control group design). The sample comprised 36 students, consisting of 18 students from Class VII A as the experimental group and 18 students from Class VII B as the control group. Data were gathered through pre-tests and post-tests in the form of multiple-choice tests containing 37 valid items, which were then analyzed using the Independent Sampes t-test and ANCOVA with SPSS version 26. The findings revealed that the use of TikTok educational videos had a significant impact on students' vocabulary mastery. The Independent Samples t-test produced a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), leading to the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha) and rejection of the null hypothesis (H₀). Furthermore, the ANCOVA results confirmed that TikTok educational videos influenced students' vocabulary mastery, with a Partial Eta Squared value of 0.446. These findings indicate that TikTok educational videos serve as an effective learning medium for enhancing students' English vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of soft masculinity in male students which is often perceived as different from traditional masculinity constructions so that they are vulnerable to being targeted by bullying in the school environment. These conditions can cause various psychological, social, and academic impacts that hinder the development of students. This study aims to describe the phenomenon of soft masculinity, the form of bullying experienced, the factors causing and impact, as well as efforts to handle it through individual counseling services for students at SMAN 10 Jeneponto. The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study type on one student with the initials MAI. Data collection is carried out through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The validity of the data was tested using source triangulation and triangulation techniques. The results of the study showed that the subjects experienced verbal, relational, and cyberbullying in the form of ridicule, negative nicknames, social exclusion, and derogatory comments on social media. Bullying behavior is influenced by gender stereotypes, patriarchal culture, and peer pressure on masculinity standards. The impacts experienced include low self-confidence, anxiety, shyness, difficulty interacting socially, and decreased study concentration. Treatment through individual counseling services using the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach with assertive training techniques has been proven to help subjects change negative mindsets, increase assertive behavior, build confidence, and develop the ability to deal with bullying more adaptively. The findings of this study show that CBT-based individual counseling services with assertive training techniques are effective in helping students cope with bullying and improve self-adjustment in the school environment.

Abstract

Poetry recitation requires an instructional model that actively engages students and provides meaningful learning experiences. One instructional model that can be applied is the Somatic, Auditory, Visual, Intellectual (SAVI) learning model supported by audiovisual media. This study aimed to describe the implementation of the SAVI learning model assisted by audiovisual media in teaching poetry recitation to tenth-grade students at SMAN 1 V Koto Timur. This study was part of a quantitative experimental study employing a Pretest–Posttest Control Group Design. However, this article specifically focuses on describing the implementation of the SAVI learning model in the experimental class. The research data were obtained through a poetry recitation performance test and documentation. The findings revealed that the implementation of the SAVI learning model assisted by audiovisual media was carried out in accordance with its instructional stages, namely somatic, auditory, visual, and intellectual. The learning process began with the presentation of a poetry recitation video as a learning stimulus, followed by observation, discussion of poetry recitation techniques, poem analysis, and individual poetry recitation performances in front of the class. The implementation resulted in a systematic, interactive, and student-centered learning process. Therefore, the SAVI learning model assisted by audiovisual media can be considered an alternative instructional approach for teaching poetry recitation at the senior high school level.
