Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of family economic background specifically parental income, parental occupation, and family financial support on the entrepreneurial interest of Economic Education students at the State University of Surabaya. The study utilized a total sampling technique involving a population of 233 students from the 2020, 2021, and 2022 cohorts. The results indicate that family economic background has a significant simultaneous effect on students' entrepreneurial interest (F = 50.699; p = 0.000), contributing 30.6% (R²) to the variance. Family financial support proved to be the dominant factor (β = 0.536) compared to parental income (β = 0.114). However, no significant difference in entrepreneurial interest was found between students whose parents are entrepreneurs and those whose parents are not (t = 0.702; p = 0.484). These findings underscore that financial and moral support from the family is more crucial than economic status or parental profession in shaping students' entrepreneurial interest.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in improving students’ Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) at SMK Perbankan Riau. The study was motivated by the low level of students’ higher-order thinking skills, as indicated by their limited ability to analyze, evaluate, and create solutions to contextual problems. The purpose of this research was to determine whether the implementation of PjBL could significantly improve students’ HOTS compared to conventional learning methods. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design. Data were collected through HOTS-based pre-tests and post-tests, as well as classroom observations. The data were analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, N-Gain analysis, and independent sample t-tests. The findings revealed that students who participated in Project-Based Learning demonstrated higher improvement in Higher Order Thinking Skills than those who learned through conventional methods. Furthermore, the results indicated a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. Therefore, Project-Based Learning was found to be effective in enhancing students’ Higher Order Thinking Skills. This study contributes empirical evidence regarding the implementation of Project-Based Learning in vocational education, particularly in developing Higher Order Thinking Skills among vocational high school students.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of critical thinking skills in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning and the continued dominance of the Direct Instruction learning model in schools. This model is effective in delivering material systematically and in a structured manner, but its relationship with students' critical thinking skills still needs to be examined. This study aims to determine the relationship between the Direct Instruction learning model and students' critical thinking skills in PAI learning at SMA Negeri 106 Jakarta. The study used a quantitative method with a correlational survey approach. Data were collected through questionnaires, observation, interviews, and documentation. The research sample consisted of 89 students selected using simple random sampling technique. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Pearson Product Moment correlation test with IBM SPSS. The results showed a significant relationship between the Direct Instruction learning model and students' critical thinking skills, with a correlation coefficient (r) of -0.213 and a significance value (Sig.) of 0.045 < 0.05. Thus, Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. The correlation coefficient indicates that the relationship between the two variables is weak and negative in direction, meaning that the higher the application of the Direct Instruction model, the lower students' critical thinking ability tends to be. However, interview results indicate that Direct Instruction still plays a role in building basic conceptual understanding before students develop critical thinking skills through more student-centered learning strategies.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the results of a preliminary analysis conducted through observations, interviews, needs assessment questionnaires, and analysis of students' learning outcomes at SDN 01 Nglegok, SDN 02 Nglegok, and SDN 02 Penataran. The analysis revealed that students still experienced difficulties in understanding basic mathematical operations, particularly addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers up to 10,000. Mathematics learning was still dominated by the use of textbooks, student worksheets, and lecture-based instruction, resulting in a lack of interactive learning experiences. Furthermore, students expressed the need for more engaging, interactive, and learner-centered instructional media. Therefore, an interactive PowerPoint-based learning media called math fun was developed, featuring learning materials, instructional videos, interactive quizzes, the mini cashier (si mika) simulation, automatic feedback, and learning evaluations. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using a modified ADDIE model, covering the Analysis, Design, and Development stages. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, in which research participants were intentionally selected based on the objectives of the study. The respondents consisted of one material expert, three media expert, three language expert, three fourth-grade teacher as the teacher readability test respondent, and 20 fourth- and fifth-grade elementary school students as the student readability test respondents. Data were collected through observations, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires, and were analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis by calculating the percentage of product feasibility. The findings indicated that the math fun learning media obtained a media expert validation score of 96.6%, a language expert validation score of 94.6%, and a material expert validation score of 82.6%, all of which were categorized as very feasible. The teacher readability test achieved a score of 80%, categorized as feasible, while the student readability test obtained a score of 94%, categorized as very feasible. These findings indicate that the math fun learning media meets the feasibility criteria for use as a learning medium for basic mathematics operations on whole numbers in fourth-grade elementary schools and has the potential to support a more interactive, engaging, and meaningful learning process.

Abstract

The world of education has recently faced real challenges related to the moral decline of learners. This symptom is evident from the fading respect for teachers, the rise of an instant learning culture, and the weak persistence of learners in going through the learning process. This study aims to analyze the six requirements for seeking knowledge in the Kitab Alala Tanalul 'Ilma (Anonim, n.d.), a pesantren poetry book that summarizes the core thoughts from the tradition of Kitab Ta'lim al-Muta'allim. The six aspects examined include intelligence (dzaka'), passion (hirsh), patience (istibar), provision (bulghah), teacher's guidance (irsyadu ustadzin), and a long period of time (thulu zaman). All of these components are dissected to see their relevance to strengthening the character of learners in the modern era. Using a qualitative literature study approach with content analysis and hermeneutic interpretation methods, this study shows that the six requirements form a unified character that supports each other. These elements are not limited to being technical requirements or formal administrative matters in learning, but are a real manifestation of the ethics of seeking knowledge (adab menuntut ilmu) that guides how learners appreciate knowledge, respect teachers, and enjoy their learning process. To strengthen its analysis, this study connects the concepts in Kitab Alala with Thomas Lickona's character education theory which covers the realms of moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action. The results of the analysis find structural harmony proving that Kitab Alala offers a classic character education model that remains applicable to address the moral crisis issues of today's young generation.
