Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that contribute to learning difficulties in speaking skills (maharah kalām) among eighth-grade students at SMP Tahfidz Plus Khoiru Ummah Sepanjang Sidoarjo. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, using interviews and observations as data collection techniques. The findings reveal that both internal and external factors influence students’ challenges in speaking Arabic. Internal factors include limited active vocabulary, difficulty in understanding Arabic grammar structures (nahwu and sharaf), feelings of shyness and low self-confidence, as well as uneven learning motivation. External factors consist of the use of conventional teaching methods, limited time allocated for speaking practice, and an underdeveloped Arabic-speaking environment (bi’ah lughawiyah). To address these issues, this study recommends increasing the frequency and quality of speaking practice, establishing a supportive language environment, and adopting more varied and communicative teaching methods. These findings are expected to serve as a foundation for developing more effective teaching strategies to enhance students' Arabic speaking skills

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Collaborative Learning method in Arabic language instruction at SMA Muhammadiyah Boarding School 3 Tulangan and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors influencing its application. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the implementation of Collaborative Learning has been carried out in a limited yet purposeful manner, involving activities such as group discussions, dialogue construction, storytelling, and educational games. This method has proven effective in encouraging active student participation and enhancing both Arabic language skills and interpersonal collaboration. However, several obstacles were encountered during its implementation, including unequal participation among students, limited instructional time, the use of textbooks that do not align with students’ proficiency levels, and weak self-regulation abilities. On the other hand, institutional support, students' enthusiasm, and the application of process-based assessment serve as key success factors. The study recommends strengthening classroom management strategies, adjusting instructional materials, allocating more appropriate learning time, and providing continuous teacher training to optimize the effectiveness of Collaborative Learning in the context of Arabic instruction in a boarding school setting

This comparative study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Cooperative Learningmethod—specifically the Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD)—in improvingfifth-grade students’ oral communication and reading literacy skills at SD XYZ Tangerang. The study was motivated by field findings that showed many students had difficultiesexpressing ideas verbally and understanding texts. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design was used, involving two classes: an experimental class using theSTAD model and a control class using conventional lecture methods. Instrumentsincluded a reading literacy test (25 items) and an observation sheet for oralcommunication skills. Data were collected through pretests and posttests, then analyzeddescriptively and inferentially. The results showed that the experimental class experiencedsignificantly greater improvement than the control class. The average reading literacyscore increased from 22.28 to 23.41, with a t-test significance value of 0.002. Oralcommunication skills in the experimental class improved by 3.53 points, while the controlclass only improved by 0.3 points. These findings confirm that the STAD model is moreeffective than conventional methods in improving students’ communication and readingskills. This research provides valuable recommendations for teachers to apply cooperativelearning strategies in classrooms.

Abstract

When children have trouble with symbolic thinking, it shows in their inability to draw connections between symbols and real-world objects, their inability to express ideas symbolically, their weak visual memory, their sluggish comprehension of spatial relationships, and their lack of imagination when it comes to making their own symbols. The purpose of this study is to detail how the mind mapping technique was used to enhance the symbolic thinking skills of kindergarteners at Nibras Padang Islamic Kindergarten who were aged 5 and 6. Qualitative research methods of a descriptive nature were employed. Interviews, documentation, and observation were the methods used to gather data. Students, the principal, and instructors from Class B make up the research subjects. According to the findings, there is a clear three-step process that includes planning, carrying out, and evaluating the mind mapping method. The teacher creates lessons around topics that the students find meaningful, like "My Vehicle," and uses visual aids like photos, arrows, and symbols to assist the students make connections between abstract ideas and real-world issues. In this scenario, the teacher takes on the role of facilitator as the students actively participate in making mind maps. The application of this method results in improved ability for children to recognize, understand, and communicate symbols in a more organized and creative manner. Thus, mind mapping has proven to be effective in developing the symbolic thinking skills of early childhood through enjoyable, visual-based learning that is suitable for their developmental stage. Keywords: Mind mapping, symbolic thinking, early childhood, early childhood education.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the influence of the Project Based Learning model on the early numeracy skills of children aged 5–6 years at Sabbihisma 4 Kindergarten, Padang. Preliminary observations indicated that the children’s numeracy abilities were still underdeveloped, as shown by the difficulty some experienced in counting, sequencing, and writing numbers from 1 to 20. Adopting a quantitative approach, the research applied an experimental design in the form of a Quasi-Experiment. The study population included all children enrolled at Sabbihisma 4 Kindergarten, with the sample comprising 10 children each from classes B5 and B6. Data were obtained through testing and analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis tests. Results revealed that in the experimental group, the mean pre-test score of 9.9 rose to 20.6 in the post-test, with a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.002, which is below the threshold of 0.05. These findings suggest that the use of the Project Based Learning model significantly improved early numeracy skills at Sabbihisma 4 Kindergarten, Padang.
