Abstract

Speaking skill, though crucial for communication, is often neglected in elementary language education, which tends to prioritize reading and writing. Recognizing that students' speaking abilities require enhancement, this study aimed to analyze the impact of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model, supported by flash cards, and the Jigsaw Cooperative Learning model, also with flash cards, on the speaking skills of third-grade elementary students. A comparative analysis of the improvements between these two models was also a key objective.Utilizing a Quasy Experiment with a non-equivalent control group design, the research involved two classes, each comprising 25 students. The experimental class received instruction using the CTL model with flash cards, while the control class utilized the Jigsaw model, similarly aided by flash cards. Data collection involved pre-tests, post-tests, and observation sheets. Statistical analysis, encompassing descriptive and inferential methods, was performed using IBM SPSS version 30.0 and Microsoft Excel 2021.The findings revealed significant insights: 1) The CTL model with flash cards demonstrated a 70.6% effect on improving speaking skills; 2) The Jigsaw model with flash cards showed a 45.7% effect. Furthermore, the average N-Gain for the experimental class (CTL) was 0.65 (moderate), while the control class (Jigsaw) registered 0.54 (moderate). A t-test confirmed a significant difference in speaking skill improvement between the two groups. Consequently, the CTL model assisted by flash cards proved more effective than the Jigsaw model with flash cards. This study recommends adopting the flash card-assisted CTL model as an effective alternative for enhancing elementary school students' speaking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of Madurese cultural values in listening and retelling activities at the elementary school level through an ethnoscience approach. This approach is based on the assumption that local culture can serve as a contextual learning source to enhance students’ oral literacy while instilling character values and cultural identity. The study was conducted at SDN Parsanga II, Sumenep Regency, using a descriptive qualitative method. The research subjects consisted of 10 fourth-grade students selected purposively for interviews. Data collection techniques included semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that local stories such as karapan sapi, the legend of Roro Kuning, and fishermen’s narratives are closely related to students lived experiences, enabling them to understand and retell the stories more effectively. Students also demonstrated positive emotional responses such as enjoyment, confidence, and pride when engaging with culturally relevant content. These results align with contextual learning theory and ethnopedagogical perspectives, reinforcing prior research on the effectiveness of ethnoscience in language learning. Integrating Madurese cultural values has proven to enhance listening and storytelling skills while promoting cultural identity and the preservation of local traditions. The study recommends that teachers and education policymakers develop contextual, culturally based learning materials suitable for primary education.

Abstract

This research was carried out due to the low reading comprehension ability in grade IV students. The purpose of this study is to find out how teachers and students are doing, as well as measure students' reading comprehension skills after the application of the Think Pair Share type cooperative learning model with the help of Flipbook media on fable story material. This research was conducted in grade IV consisting of 27 students, with a composition of 15 male students and 12 female students. The method used is Classroom Action Research (PTK) which is carried out in two cycles, each consisting of one meeting. The instruments used in data collection include observation, tests, and documentation. The results showed that in the first cycle, only 4 students achieved learning completeness with an average class score of 60.25. In cycle II, the number of students who completed increased to 24 students, with the average class score increasing to 79.11. Thus, the application of the Think Pair Share type cooperative model supported by Flipbook media has been proven to have a positive impact on improving the reading comprehension ability of grade IV students. The researcher suggests that future research use media that attracts students' reading interest more and pays special attention to reading comprehension indicators whose achievement is still low.

Abstract

This classroom action research aimed to improve science learning outcomes through the RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, Create) learning model among students of Class VC at SDN Menteng Atas 14, South Jakarta. The study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the RADEC learning model, with the success indicator being an improvement in students’ learning outcomes in science. The research subjects were 22 students in Class VC, consisting of 11 male and 11 female students. The study employed the cyclical model of Kemmis and McTaggart, which involves the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The success criteria of the study were met if 80% of students reached the Minimum Learning Mastery Criteria (KKTP), which was set at 75, and if 80% of the RADEC model implementation was achieved. In Cycle I, the percentage of students who achieved cognitive learning mastery was 68%, indicating that the criteria had not yet been met. In Cycle II, this percentage increased to 86%, showing significant improvement. The observation instruments for teacher and student activities during Cycle I showed implementation rates of 80% and 85% in the first and second meetings, respectively. In Cycle II, these rates increased to 85% in the first meeting and 95% in the second meeting. The implementation of the RADEC learning model can be considered an effective approach to enhance science learning outcomes among fifth-grade elementary school students, as it is student-centered and actively engages learners in meaningful learning experiences to understand the subject matter.
